Traded Josh Bruce [traded to Western Bulldogs for #32 and #51]

It makes a lot of sense.

Dogs don't need 32 for keath. He's out of contract. Was a cat B rookie. Has injury issues now.

Bruce is a much more vital piece of a serious premiership tilt for the dogs.

Pick 13 will help the saints get their other deals done.
I do see the doggies making the Saints sweat though. The one disadvantage of having so many trade targets is that it puts more pressure on the Saints to get things done early, the dogs on the other hand can play it cool and will be happy to wait until the end. I wouldn’t be surprised to see the Saints set them a deadline.

Early? We are more than half way through....

Over the last 10 games of this season (once recovered from the 2018 broken leg), Bruce averaged:

12.7 disposals
2.3 goals
4.8 marks
2.1 contested marks
2.6 marks inside 50

Pretty similar to the numbers Tom Lynch and Tom Hawkins put up this season. Bruce is only 4 months older than Tom Lynch and 4 years younger than Hawkins.

If a 5 pick downgrade and pick 32 is as high as the Saints’ demands go, the Dogs would be quietly stoked, I reckon. He’s worth every bit of a first rounder.

Yeh, the problem with Bruce is his consistency. Chuck up the numbers from his early to middle of the year and its less that 10 disposals and a goal a game.

The first week is mostly a pissing contest though. The weekend is for negotiations, most of the trading starts today. We nabbed Josh Shache with 18 minutes to spare on the last day of trade.

I've heard Justin Reid described as "Dodoro Jnr" so the Keath trade might be one that drags on too.

Given you guys have so many spinning plates you will probably have a few deals go through on the last trading day this year.

As a second banana to Naughton, we won’t need him to be Lynch or Hawkins or every week. But the fact he can do that for a few months on end is great.
He can't do it for months on end, thats the frustration. I understand you used his 'averages' over the last 10 weeks, but he did kick a bag of 6, and kicked 4 a couple times too i think which increases his averages. He still has some very quiet and ineffective games. Agree though, think he'll work really well with Naughton and you don't need to be a genius to see he'll get much better delivery from your mids instead of our spuds.

Still, during that 10 weeks he had double digit disposals every game, only went goalless once, only had less than 4 marks once and took at least 1 contested mark every game. As a baseline, that’s relatively consistent. At least consistent enough for our purposes.

Yeh which is fine if you're looking at stats, different story watching the games.

Don't worry - if you get him you will be on a winner. He kicked 50, 38 & 36 goals when he was playing as a second tall (to Reiwoldt I must concede).

2018 was injury write off but again this year he kicked 36 goals playing as our sole tall forward and 2nd ruck.

So you will get that and he will make Naughton (and Schache) better players. Worth more than 32!!!

Yep - I suspect if we can satisfy the Swans demand for Jones we can get the Bruce deal over the line. Hopefully in the end pick 32 + a 3rd rounder can get all that done.

I just don't know why the Saints are keen for him to go and bring in Ryder who is at the very end of his carrier

As of today here is St Kilda's ruck stocks

1. Rowan Marshall
2. Some cat b rookie ex basketballer
3. Who ever is abouve 195 cm's on game day

Ryder is perfect to take the load of Marshall while also not stifling Marhsall's development for the next 2 seasons.

Why St Kilda are getting rid of Bruce my guess is to get games into Max King and also swing Josh Battle back forward.

Max King will be the main man down there.

Marshall we see as a genuine ruck/forward so whether it's Ryder playing or we eventually find a younger ruck, we will want to play two ruckmen in the side.

After that, Membrey is better than Bruce so I guess it's an easy choice.

We also have Josh Battle who was drafted as a forward.

A fair bit of pressure to put on a kid who hasn’t played one game of senior footy. And has had two major surgeries in two years.
If I Were the Saints I’d want to keep a big bodied forward like Bruce for sure. Membrey is a star but he’s only 188cms. He’s more the 3rd tall type of footballer. Doesn’t take the gorilla. I do realise Ryder will be there now but he isn’t much of a forward

The Western Bulldogs currently hold Pick 32 and have offered that to St Kilda for Bruce, but the Saints want a better deal for the contracted spearhead.

Bruce is keen to join the Dogs on a four-year deal after being told he was free to explore his options after Round 23.

Saints coach Brett Ratten has since denied suggestions the club was keen to move him on, but Bruce has told friends he is being pushed out. The Dogs also believe he was told to find a new home, 12 months after some inside Moorabbin looked at ways to move him on.
