Hey KM can i just ask what would be one of the reasons bampton wasnt taken in the ND? was it endurance? lack of speed? or disposal skills? would he be similar to some undrafted inside ball winners like pogniriac from the past??

thanks

He just had a shoulder reco. Probably doesn't help your cause when you a are a mid range draft pick to start with

Hey KM, I've listed a few guys below that I think we should be looking at in the RD. Who do you think is the best fit for us & secondly who is most likely to make it as an genuine AFL player?

Peter Bampton, 182cm, 83kg - inside mid, avg 19 possessions @ 83.5% eff in 9 SANFL games.

Daniel Caprion, 189cm, 83kg - def, avg 12 poss @ 67 % eff in 7 TAC games

Jack Cripps, 196cm, 86kg - fwd, avg 18 poss @ 71% eff in 9 WAFL colts games

Billy Evans, 190cm, 87kg - inside mid, avg 23 poss @ 67% eff in 12 TAC games

Will Fordham, 189cm, 80kg - def, avg 20 poss @ 67% eff in 20 TAC games

Josh Glenn, 180cm, 78kg - def, avg 20 poss @ 68% eff in 16 SANFL games

Taylor Grace, 185cm, 80kg - utility, avg 30 poss @ 73% eff in 15 TAC games

Tyler Keitel, 194cm, 88kg - KPP, avg 14.5 poss @ 62% eff in 15 WAFL colts games

Elliot Le Grice, 194cm, 90kg - def, avg 11 poss @ 72% eff in 16 VFL games

Michael Manteit, 187cm, 85kg - def, avg 20 poss @ 70% eff in 18 TAC games

Nick Newman, 188cm, 80kg - def, avg 24 poss @ 70.5% eff in 18 VFL games

Brenton Payne, 193cm, 80kg - fwd, avg 13 poss @ 70% eff in 13 TAC games

Tyler Roos, 185cm, 75kg - mid, avg 23 poss @ 63% eff in 18 TAC games

Mitch White, 189cm, 85kg - utility, avg 19 poss @ 66% eff in 16 TAC games

Thanks in advance
Newman would give you guys some good foot skills out of the back half. I think he'd be a nice fit at Melbourne.

Manteit sounds like a pretty decent rookie option from what you've described. Nice height & weight too

Also, do you know if Brisbane have declared or had to declare before now whether they are committed to Hammelmann?

Not aware of Brisbane being committed to Hammelmann - or if he has been then I have not heard the news publicised. We'll see over the next hour what happens to him.

Has Bampton been picked up yet?

Edit: I'd check myself but I'm out on site and the Internet connection out here is almost as bad as the AFL website.

no he didnt (but they have been slow updating so I may of missed it)

Bampton has been overlooked completely.

He certainly heads up that deserving group to miss out this year.

Hi Knightmare what do you know about the players brisbane selected billy evans and hugh beasley are they any good? What can you tell me about them?

Both are solid rookie picks.

Evans is a tall contested ball winning midfielder. Numbers good and his long handballs are a highlight. He is also capable forward of centre and can take a mark on the lead and kick a goal a game.

Beasley is the best performed key defender in the TAC Cup. Best stopper at that level this year as an overager. Short by position at only 190cm. Will be interesting to see how he goes at the next level.

I reckon Beasley will be the Patfull replacement.

He kicked 18 goals in 11 games, with 25% of his games coming in finals. He's a bit better than serviceable as best.

As a 200cm third tall, it's likely he's going to get a lot of those miss matches in the next few years.

Nah, serviceable at best...he's a C-grade forward. Nothing more, nothing less. But at the end of the day, he still takes a tall defender :thumbsu:

Tom Read KM? Thoughts?

A rookie position is about right for Tom Read. Project ruck as pretty much all 18 year old ruckmen are. Can also play forward and take a grab which is something.

Why don't you think Alex Urban got picked up in either of the drafts? First in Oakleigh BnF. Third in league. Was promoted as being a top 10 pick in 2013.

Urban has had a terrific junior career but perhaps hasn't taken that next step. But as a relatively short mid with below average skills and only average pace that's largely why I imagine he got overlooked. Given those things he projects more as a state leaguer than an AFL standard footballer.

Hi KM, do you know much about the Crows rookie selection, Reilly O'Brien? Seems like he was bit of a smokey.

I've seen a lot of Reilly O'Brien over the last few years. Overager for Calder. Can play ruck, key forward or key defence. Reasonably athletic. May not have been spoken about much as a prospect this year but a rookie selection for him is about right.

Hi KM, your thoughts on Aaron Vandenberg & Mitchell White as our RD selections & their strengths/weaknesses?

Thanks in advance

Vandenberg plays for Ainslie in the NEAFL. Productive midfielder and a real improver. I've only seen the Ainslie finals games where Vandenberg wasn't playing so I haven't seen him play to give a strengths/weaknesses.

White played TAC Cup for Dandenong as a rebounding defender and occasional outside mid. Reasonable two way player without being great at either side of the ball. Pretty good kick and competes well enough defensively. But a little surprising to see him selected as someone who was more good but not great at that level and not someone who really stands out.

Thoughts on Sinclair and Payne for the saints?

Sinclair I like. Overager but capable midfield with a bit of pace and is also very good by position forward of centre as someone who can go forward, take a mark and provide some scoreboard impact.

Payne is a high motor, very thin forward. Interesting player and a project who will need to develop physically. Perhaps more a 3rd tall/high half forward at the next level. A rookie position is about right for him.

Knightmare, could you offer any thoughts on the 3 Blues boys perchance? Billy Gowers, Bradley Walsh and Tom Fields.

Gowers is a versatile athletic type. Can play on a flank or through the midfield. Strong overhead. Pretty good skillset. Something to work with there.

Bradley Walsh was highly rated coming into the season. Really hard inside mid who has a crack. Just probably hasn't taken that next step this year which is why he is a rookie selection rather than a national draft selection.

Tom Fields is an ex Queenslander who has played in the SANFL for a couple of seasons now. He is a tallish, athletic defender with a nice long kick to him.

Fields of that group is probably the more surprising as there may be a few better performed alternatives or younger alternatives but all as rookies were taking around about the right mark.

Fields isn't perhaps as huge a surprise to SANFL followers. As KM says, he's a nice, long kick.

I'd say he's a left-footer with close to the longest kick going around in the SANFL.

At this stage, my thanks to Knightmare for a lot of great reading.

Who are the big winners in your opinion this off season?
I think the tigers have drafted quite smartly with covering needs (class and speed)
As well as some huge risk vs reward (Mckenzie)

I read that Taylor Walker was drafted in the 70's. Did he slide for simular reasons to Mckenzie?

Walker went late in the draft because he was a NSW Scholarship holder with the crows.
