I'm stunned you have brynes ahead of Finn in the rankings ?

Brynes will go at pick 30 onwards I got told by a few scouts..

Worrall hurt himself yesterday too so a few Sandy boys will go late in the draft
Dede, how did Watts go yesterday?? I worked at his high school hence the interest..

A team with enough good players who can be state leaguers without those guys who project at AFL footballers. Fewer school footballers have helped and only Mellis for a game or two playing for Vic Metro. Stapleton, Mellis (both sub 180cm mids) can play but height works against them from an AFL perspective. Rossiter and Pretty are two others who can play but aren't getting spoken about as AFL prospects. The other one who was there early season who helped was Coby Hirst but he got picked in the mid-season draft.

Overall it's a case of the combination of those circumstances have proven favourable to early season performance but from here it's going to be an uphill battle from this point on. I'd be shocked if Oakleigh or Sandringham didn't annihilate Eastern come finals time if they were to meet (with the APS kids and U18 Champs kids back). Tasmania I feel are slightly stronger with their prospects back from the Allies. Gippsland and Dandenong are two other sides I slightly favour to Eastern this year.

The key with the ladder at this point in the season is always to ignore it. It's more useful to understand the quality of the players on their list and those who have missed games to get a better feel for which teams are the strongest sides. And this year it's all about Sandringham and Oakleigh in terms of which sides are those premiership contenders in the NAB League.
Point well made, Eastern play Tassie this weekend so we’ll get a quick answer on your forecast. Dragons had a shocker this round even with U18 champ reps returning, perhaps an aberration. Gippsland for mine come gf.

Hi KM,

A few questions about Fischer McAsey who seems to be rising up the ranks. Is he a better defender or forward? Who does he play similar to? And do you think he'll go late first, or bolt into the top 10?

Key defender.

Can see him going around pick 10.

I've compared him to Darcy Moore (although not as extremely tall at 195cm) as he's similar effective taking intercept marks and defending that high ball and has similar athleticism but there are probably a few other key defenders he could also be likened to.

Any chance you could furnish us with your Top 30 post Champs rankings, for the 2019 Draft Knightmare?

I'm still not convinced by any of the smaller Vic Country on-ballers, as Top 10 prospects.

I'm happy for my friends on bigfooty to list my next 10. By year's end I'll probably post player rankings 21-50 again.

I know that Maguinness is rated around the 20 mark in terms of the draft board - but I'm interested to know what kind of player you believe he is projected to become (when you have a chance of course)? Who would you liken him too, and in your opinion does he have AA potential in him?

I get confused by the DC rankings. Some players played 2 games and are higher then players who played 4 games. Even though they may be a lot lower in the possession count???

That side of the data is an average per game figure.

I follow little athletics like you do junior AFL, it's a great guide going by history, next big thing in the AFL IMO will be Godfrey Okergerang, 2 years off being drafted iirc, Sudanese lad who simply has to be seen to be believed, runs low 12s (as of last year) and long jumps ups over 7 metres, part of the Swans academy iirc (from Wagga) potential sub 10 runner.
If he's from Wagga he'd be in the Giants academy. And google tells me he is.

I find Maginness hard to place. I'm yet to settle on a best position. Can play inside mid as he showed in round 4 of the Champs. But can play outside or flank. He's a high motor hard working type who can win the ball without being damaging with it. I haven't settled on a comparison, but perhaps something like a Chris Masten. I don't see AA potential in him. I'm not convinced yet he's a long term player at AFL level personally. Still has the second half of the season and finals though to sell me on him.

Hey KM, of the top 30 or so prospects, who has the best acceleration and top line speed?

Ash in a big way. Sharp/Henry/Taylor not far behind. Anderson/Rowell/Flanders/Serong/D.Stephens/Gould/Henry/Robertson all have relative speed.

Does it matter if they can football?

Speed more than ever today matters. Defensive and zones are better than ever. Have guys who can either run with ball in hand to break the lines or kick through those defences with a speed so quick defences can't set up properly, that's huge offensively.

I was thinking of Potter. Is there anyone faster?

Bow does Ash's pace co.pre with a Stephenson, Pettrucelle, JHunt, etc?

Potter if you give him the chance is probably the fastest in the pool with ball in hand, and possibly just edges Ash for speed. The question was top 30 or so. Potter I'm seeing more as a later pick which is why I didn't include him in that grouping. I could be wrong though, but his U18 Champs wasn't as impactful as I had hoped, with less flashes of that run and dare than I had hoped given what he produces seemingly every week at NAB League level.

I agree that he’s outside the 30.

That’s why I asked if it matters if he can footy.

Harry Schoenberg [ 23 Disposals - 15 Kicks - 8 Hballs - 5 Marks - 4 Tackles - 6 Clearances - 1.1] outshone in the midfield in the SANFL 2's today by his WWT Eagles teammate Lachie McNeil [ 23 Disposals - 12 Kicks - 11 Hballs - 2 Marks - 13 Tackles - 7 Clearances] who is the one flying under the radar of the SA boys.
