It's sounding increasingly like Serong goes somewhere around pick 8/9, rather than sooner, and it could be later still if a club falls in love with Weightman. My view is Serong will go largely around where he should based on recent talk. With sub 180s I tend to advise caution as typically they have less development left in them and Serong has an advanced game.

Serong I suspect plays at the next level as a forward who rotates through the midfield. Or at least that would be my preferred usage, as he does both well, but sub 180cm he probably won't be a dominant mid.

Serong is a bit like a shorter poor man's Isaac Heeney. He also somewhat reminds me of Ben Ainsworth from a few years ago. Perhaps not as quick, but otherwise pretty similar and more on quality what you're roughly looking at.
What’s his forward pressure like? Or is he more that Issac Heeney/Toby Greene like HF?

Serong is more like a shorter Heeney. Forward pressure decent but not on Greene's level. More a leaping and strong marking forward who plays taller than his height.

What's his kicking like? From what I've seen it looks average but I wouldn't really know. I read your latest article regarding sub 180 players, if GC were to trade into top 10 would you take Serong considering we already have Ainsworth, Macpherson, Miles, (Rowell) in our midfield rotation?

Serong's kicking is mediocre. Under pressure can butcher it at times and placement and reliability isn't as good as I'd like of a possible early choice.

I'm not sure Serong would be Gold Coast's highest priority if they trade into the top 10. A Dylan Stephens or Lachlan Ash would make more sense for them with run their greatest need.

Callum Twomey has rumoued Brisbane are likely to try to trade picksi 16 and 21 for a top 10 pick apparently Lions like Lachlan Ash which clubs are most likely to trade picks Melbourne at 8 for 16 and 21 seems like a fair trade would Ash be available at pick 8

I see some scenarios Ash features earlier than pick 8. eg. Sydney are a chance at 6.

Doubt melbourne traded a future 1st, 26 & 50 to end up with 16 & 21.
Trading into the top 8 seems to require significant overs. The asking price might be too high to pull that one off.

I'd love to get high enough to pick up Ash but does seem a bit odd for Melbourne to trade back out of 8.

Unless they were targeting someone specific who might not make it to 8 (Jackson?) so will trade down if that doesnt happen to get other priorities

It’s applied to the round the bid comes in.

If the bid comes in the first round, and a deficit carries over to the next years draft, 100% the deficit comes off the first round pick.

If a bid comes in the second round, then it comes off the next years second round pick.
I stand corrected. Cheers for the info :thumbsu:

I sure hope not.

Ash is good. Melbourne are believed to have him on their shortlist if there at 8.

Cant see melb giving up 8... given what they paid for it

There is a possible scenario Melbourne get Young (if they go Jackson at 3), and if they don't, they should have Serong, if not their choice between Serong and Ash. So I'm not seeing them moving that pick 8 either. It feels like a good spot for them.

Serong for me is a bit like Brett Ebert from yesteryear. Very strong overhead for his size, strong and stocky body, solid kick...

To some extent. Serong I view as a more complete/better version with greater midfield capabilities. But if you said Brett Ebert with midfield capabilities I wouldn't say you're all that far off.

Yea Ebert had pretty decent midfield abilities (won the Magarey there and used to win a lot of the pill) but he had weapons that were useful up forward and at the time Port had a very strong side when he first came in, so slotted into that half forward role and with his strong marking and big kick, stayed there and didn't move into the middle. He may not have quite had the AFL tank however....

Serong I agree with translate to the midfield pretty well...strong body, good user, will be a good player.

19
future first

for pick 8

?

maybe a one of Richmonds several third rounders too
The 19 in the first this year is useless to GWS as it will just get swallowed up in points

38+39+56 is better for GWS than #19 this year as its worth more points
But if a bid is pick #3 the points wont be enough

But if GWS take 37,39 and 58 they need to delist two more players before the draft too.

Why ? If the trade is done on the night and the picks are already swallowed up for points then there is no other pick to select players

Is it possible to have a 3 way club trade with picks??

GWS get picks 37, 39 and 58,

RFC get picks between 16-30

another club gets a high GWS pick they want?

Clubs cannot on trade picks can they?

I really hope we dont get Ash, as good as he looks we already recruited 2 running half back flankers in Ling (im still furious about it) and Stoddart, our priority should be an inside mid, I really like the look of Deven Robertson. sounds like the exact player the swans need, why is he not talked about being a top 6-7 prospect. Is it because his shoulder surgery ended his season early so out of sight out of mind and other kids have overtaken him, or is there a bit of go home factor for all the non WA clubs especially with him family connection to Darren Glass.

Do you think the swans are a chance to go early on Robertson? Flanders seems like he'd also be a good fit, as would Jackson but itd be kind of nice to get a ready made player with our pick 5 not a ruckman who will take a few years to develop properly.
