LOL at people suggesting third party deals when Budster already has his own legit business (not a rort) based in Melbourne

If buddy were to move, I'd put my house on a 3rd party deal being involved. Woodside are probably turning a bigger profit than buddy's t shirt business.

It's all a moot point anyway, either he signs on before the season, or a couple of clubs make mammoth bids, ad he knocks them back and signs on during the season. Would take a huge fallout with the club for him to consider leaving, although the pull of being with his girlfriend in Perth will be ever so tempting.

This is the best argument for a needing a license to post.

Point being he doesnt need the extra money, and a third party deal would sully his own business' legitimacy with the AFL

I wholeheartedly agree, he doesn't need the extra money. But you would be naive to think that a team making a big play for him (talking freo here) wouldn't include a handy little brown paper bag in any prospective deal. Not saying he'd take it, but it'll be there.

I can only really see 2 things happening, either he stays at the hawks or he comes back to west coast.

Pre-judd i would doubt he would leave but judd has opened the door for the big names to leave clubs without massive backlash.

Im pretty sure he has already signed with both eagles and dockers. Apparently he wants to go home and never leave so the AFL approved a deal where he can just play at Subi every week.

I know this sounds unbelievable, but its true. I have it from a very reliable sauce

With regards to Franklin's salary, it goes without saying but what he forgoes in club based salary would be comfortably made up in marketing and sponsor based sponsorship. To emphasis his commercial appeal...

IMG Sports Technology, which runs the online stores for 17 of the 18 AFL clubs has compiled data from the 2012 season, and concluded Franklin branded jumpers, badges, t-shirts and caps are by far the most popular.

"It's not surprising that he was number one, but the sheer volume ... the gap between himself and the guys in the rest of the list was amazing to us," IMG STG creative director Danny Bishop told AFL.com.au.

The gap between Buddy and the rest is enormous.

"It's almost 100 percent on what the next guy on the list is.

Business interests aside, it makes sense for Franklin (and for that matter Rioli) to stay in football mad Melbourne.

Its very possible that Franklin could generate significantly more revenue for activites outside Hawthorn than would be paid under the Hawthorn salary cap.

I luv Hawks playing without him too. Great spread of goal kickers and different paths to the fowardline. But I luv it 10 times more with Buddy. Hard to explain but he makes you want to go to the game just to see him. Not sure if that makes sense.
Best team in the comp by far without him i think.would you
rather win games or lose them.

The real question is can West Coast / Fremantle afford all of Franklin, Gibson, Roughead and Lewis? On top of that can the Western Force afford to sign Beale and O'Connor? I'm guessing not

Where are these 'worried' Hawthorn fans? I've not come across any.

By all means though, feel free to join the chorus of those saying we should be.

There are an awful lot of you that seem pretty defensive about it to the point of delirium. At least one of you suggested that money is virtually no concern. If that was actually true, wouldn't he have signed a long term extension by now?

Why - when he isn't even out of contract for another 12 months. I think dismissive is slightly different from defensive

What would WCE put in the brown paper bag to lure Buddy?

Cocaine

But in all seriousness it's far more likely to be a nice burberry scarf and some hair product.
