Back from a brief sabbatical - still got some miles in the legs I reckon.

In the lead-up to the Mateflon Medal tonight, we have a few auxilliary awards to recognise everyone's efforts or otherwise this season.

Earliest to Training Award
Art Vandelay_ who forgot it was a leap year and showed 24 hours early.

Latest to Training Award
Will have to be delayed a year, as Matera92 and RookiePick have still yet to arrive to last preseason.

The ENFORCER Award
MKMatty - gave away a free kick every 9 possessions.

Best Off-Season GPS Numbers
JoseMourinho, although some of the speeds and routes he was "running" did seem awfully suspicious.

Before I begin tonight's show, I'd like to thank JoshWoodenSpoon for the pre show fun and also welcome the two newest recruits to the Las Vegas Bears family.

We are delighted to welcome Ocha905 to the Bears, joining from the Warriors. Ocha made a massive splash in his debut season in Season 36, winning the Rising Star award and placing second in the EKA that season. He was previously a key member of the Warriors, playing 50 games and supporting in many areas. Many of the team know him from the Song Contest and we are excited to see him in the league wearing the famous Bears guernsey.

He impressed our scouts with posting in a number of areas including politics, movies and dabbling in the Death List, and will no doubt fit in well in the league and be a fan favourite at the Bears. Ladies, Gentlemen and Bears, welcome to the Season 38 Best and Fairest Awards, or as it's also known: Matera92 Appreciation Night. Yes, we're here to hand out the Mateflon Medal, the Bears' top honour, which Matera had the audacity to name after himself. That's right, folks, he wins one premiership as co-captain and decided he deserved eternal recognition. What's next, a Matera statue in front of the Stadium?

So sit back, enjoy the night, and let's watch Matera pretend to be surprised when he wins again.

Now, while Matera practices his surprised face in the corner, let me explain how our prestigious award works. Throughout the season, votes were awarded for each game by one member of the Leadership Group. Players were judged in two categories: Qooty performance, with 5-4-3-2-1 votes given to the best on-field contributors, and match thread posting, with 3-2-1 votes recognising the most engaging or entertaining contributions.

Looking at past winners, Millky95 has been the standout of recent years, claiming the Mateflon Medal three times in the last four seasons, including back-to-back victories. Cap, meanwhile, has carved out a curious pattern of winning every third season. With three Mateflon Medals to his name, could he continue the trend and take home the honour tonight? Other Bears legends like Matera92, DemonJim, JoshWoodenSpoon and MWPP have each won it twice. But could this be the year a new name joins the prestigious list? Perhaps All-SFA Centre Chipmunk will take the crown, or maybe Sizzler's number one fan RonnieRaven will go from the buffet line to Bears' finest. Or will Millky95 make history with a hat trick, becoming the first Bear to win a fourth Mateflon Medal?

The suspense is high, and tonight, the stage is set for one Bear to claim the ultimate prize! Though let's be honest, half of you are just here for the free food and booze.

Round 1 Recap: Dragons 116 - 56 Bears
The Bears kicked off the season at Ljp86's Lair, eager to tackle the Dragons in a muddy showdown. Spirits were high, with milestone man Cap returning to the ruck, debutant SSSSSS showing raw promise, and Fred Vandelay_ flashing flair at full forward. The Bears came out firing, with Cap orchestrating our early goals and even Matera92 sneaking one in (to Art Vandelay_'s despair). By halftime, we were in a seesawing thriller, up by just 1 point. Then came the dreaded second half, the Dragons unleashed a 10 goal onslaught while we hit snooze, eventually copping a 60 point thumping. Bright spots? Tandy dazzled, Cap battled hard, SSSSSS had a debut to remember, and the defence scrapped valiantly. Not the dream start, but there’s plenty of upside from here, once we shake off the hibernation.

Round 2 Recap: Bears 114 - 111 Roys
After drowning our sorrows from last weeks dsimal performance and pulling off some Olympic inspired training antics, the Bears came out firing at The Stadium in the Sky against the Roys. On a scorcher of a day, Cap set the tone early, while Art Vandelay_ put on a masterclass, booting 7 goals and making his poor opponent look like he’d been swindled. The forward line buzzed with @Matera92’s crafty 2 goal effort, @Chipmunk’s dominance, and MWPP battling the yips with a wayward 4 goals, 5 behinds. SSSSSS sent the crowd wild with his first career goal, and the defence, led by JoshWoodenSpoon and Electronic_Renaissance, stood tall when it counted. The Roys made it nerve wracking late, trimming our lead from 55 points to just 3 in a nail biting finish. But we held firm, scoring a gutsy upset win that left Vegas fans dreaming big and ready to see where this season might take us.

Round 3 Recap: Bears 100 - 94 Bombers
The Bears pulled off a nail biting 6 point win over the Bombers in a game that had everything; missed shots, clutch moments, and more drama than a reality TV finale. After starting with all the accuracy of a blindfolded archer, the Bears fought back, inspired by rookie SSSSSS showing the veterans how it’s done. The final quarter was a chaotic scramble, with both teams catching the yips at the worst possible moments. Just when it seemed the Bombers might steal it, Chipmunk, yes, the smallest Bear on the field, outmarked the giants, and booted an 80 metre bomb to seal the win as the siren sounded. Bears fans stormed the field, hoisting Chipmunk aloft like he’d just won the lottery.

Round 4 Recap: Royals 136 - 58 Bears
After back-to-back thrillers, the Bears rolled into Gold City, fired up for a grudge match against the Royals, only to get a royal drubbing. Despite @MKMatty’s homecoming vibes, @Senor M’s bus driving wizardry, and @Chipmunk’s responsible Chippybet antics, the game was over quicker than our pre match beers. Art Vandelay battled bravely, Matera92 chipped in with a couple of goals, and Chipmunk did his best to turn disposals into magic, but the Royals made our trusty Platypus Formation look more like a sitting duck. A 78 point thumping later, our skipper tony was already jet setting away while the rest of us plotted revenge on the bus ride home.
