You compared him to 2 inside mids, did you not?

I compared him to the two mids who are ranked behind out top rated midfielders in the depth chart. One could say Cerra's inconsistent play might have him behind Kennedy but on contracts Kennedy and Dow are behind him. Throw in Setterfield who is also an inside midfielder and our options for outside mids are limited.

Acres peculiar
Is a West Australian
However if he's earning say $300k and we're offering $400k thats a big enough % difference that he'd consider crossing
Would be a great get. I've spent a lot of the year thinking "want him"
Don’t know if rumour “has legs”, but he is a bloody good player. Workaholic, who has found his spot on a wing. Doesn’t have the silky disposal many of us would like, but workrate and a hard edge. Not sure if many remember he played a season and a half at the Saints playing the Grigg/Silvagni rucking role. Jack of all trades for years, but now seems a master of one.

He is out of contract and clearly is being sacrificed (lowballed) for salary cap to trade in Jackson. In fairness the Dockers have many options with an oversupply of QUALITY developing running, distributing half backs who can play wing. Has had some injuries over the journey, so not expecting to pay big dollars. Wouldn’t be surprised if we are in the mix, strikes me as a Voss type wing option.

Recruit Fiorini to be our 6th/7th mid option.....

.....or just keep Setters, move Stocker into the guts after a full preseason, keep developing Carroll and Philp, maybe run Kemp through there a bit.

We've got enough to work with, no need to go chasing Fiorini on a whim. If we need another midfielder on the list, take one in the draft with our Pick 10-12.

Yeah, reminds me of Kamdyn McIntosh. Hard runner. Good overhead. Good in the contest. Decent skills rather than silky.

You compared him to two inside mids. It's not a particularly relevant comparison because he isn't one.

No issue with looking for another outside mid, but if we're going down that path, give me a Sholl on half the pay packet.

I just told you why I compared him to those two players. Depth chart.

Why would Sholl be on half what Fiorini is? I doubt he's getting big money.

Sholl could potentially cost more to bring over.

Acres adds a lot of pace, physicality and penetration. He's not a shine and polish player but he can break lines as well as any wing in the game at the moment and is a very hard match up.

With Acres joining the mix our midfield would look absolutely huge.

Cripps 195cm - 95kgs
Kennedy 191cm - 90kgs
Hewett 187cm - 86kgs
Cerra 187cm - 87kgs
Walsh 184cm -84kgs

Acres 189cm - 92kgs
Cotters 185cm - 80kgs
Carroll 188cm - 82kgs

As Walsh, Carroll and Cerra mature and build up their bodies its going to be seriously intimidating having that much bullocking power through the center.

Would still love for us to find someone who can go through the middle and push forward with some real zip and explosiveness in the mould of a Zac Bailey or Shai Bolton but they are rare as it gets and would quickly find themselves in a pay bracket we probably wouldn't be able to appease. You could see when Doc went through the middle how much better we cleaned up the ball when it spilt into open space as he has a bit more pace off the mark than our big bulls.

And your first post on the topic was a comparison with Dow.

It’s ok to say you thought he was an inside mid.

Why would Sholl be on half what Fiorini is? I doubt he's getting big money.

Could be wrong but I reckon I saw it reported somewhere that Fiorini is on 600k or so.

Hence approx. 2x Sholl.

Sholl could potentially cost more to bring over.

Only if we’re prepared to absorb the Fiorini contract, which we shouldn’t be.

Sholl won’t cost much.

There was an article today saying Johanesson and Corday from the Dogs are looking at other offers, is Cordy a decent defender, would he be of interest to us?

It would be pretty sweet...
Very Geelong like, the size and strength of that midfield...

If we could add a Bergman (Port) or a Bruest (Hawks) or even a Brayden George from the draft...
It would complete our best 22...

We targeting Sholl and Acres yet resign O’Brien and seemingly have appointed Cottrell as our first choice winger.
Spells end for Newnes and I suspect Setterfield is on the block for trade.

Think it's only, Carlton board talk being into Sholl... Hasn't been discussed anywhere I can see in the media...

Only media I have seen, have said "were are into McAsey and Acres" and likely "Dow to ask for a trade"...

Earlier this year there was a couple of articles that mentioned him linked to us. Also reported by some Adelaide ITKs on the Crows board before it was ever mentioned here.

Acres sounds like too much of the same type. We need great ball users with speed. How quick is Acres?

You are correct. He, along with a few others, were given overs in order for them to extend their contracts and to put an end to the exodus. His was signed in 2020 until the end of 2023.

However, given that he has one year left on his contract I wouldn't be surprised to see him willing to restructure that year on his contract in order to attain a longer term deal.

Further, I don't recall if there was any mention on how that 3-year extension was structured. I do know that the Suns front loaded some contracts at the time as their next gen players were still on their early contracts (e.g. Noah and Matt Rowell).

Regardless, we don't need to go down that path to upgrade the midfield for the reasons you previously documented.

Sholl would be on next to nothing, and despite being contracted trade value for us would be negligible.

Showed lots of promise in his 1st few years, absolute endurance beast who can kick easily on both sides and rack up possessions on HB or wing.

Defensively struggles with repeat sprint efforts and was sent back to the SANFL to work on his defensive side, which we’re trying to prioritise.

His numbers look excellent in the SANFL, but we’re pretty stacked for people off HB and wing

Dockers have a number of younger wing options coming through, but it's strange they are lowballing Acres given the players they have in the 28+ bracket who will start to decline and or retire in the next 3 years

Acres would certainly improve our best 22 in a number of areas, speed/motor, footskills and hardness

I'm a fan of what we've seen and agree with your general appraisal.

1. Any cultural question marks? Would be his third club.

2. Given the injury history, any red flags that question whether his body could fall off a cliff?

It's an extraordinary low ball offer - not even a "we'd love to keep you but..." offer.
