Funny thing is, he's probably a better fit for them than he is for us.
Absolutely. I honestly can’t believe posters are taking this seriously.
2023
Pitto entering his prime
TDK starting to seriously realise his potential
Mirkov continuing the upward trajectory and threatening for the no.1 spot by season’s end

Add to our KPP developing players through the draft and perhaps a mature depth type via trade or even DFA. This would
allow Young to back up as a ruck if we are struck by injuries.

Again a forward/ruck type would be an excellent draft piece if a decent prospect falls to our pick. However, we are NOT in need of another ruckman for 2023, especially not an old bloke deemed secondary by the bottom team. Goldy has been great, even under rated, but another year on, absolutely not.

Thankyou Coona,
Order has been restored 👍

I'd be struggling to provide a reason he wouldn't be the no.1 ruck with us. Has lost none of his leap or ability.

Not to mention, he'd be a stunning role model for Pitto to emulate, as they're ostensibly similar players.

Disagree, he looks a yard slower and has been playing as a permanent forward most of the year to very little impact. Part of that may be the losing culture over there wouldn't be much fun but I'm not convinced that he'd offer more than what we have.

Yep Pitto and TDK doing nicely.

And what, we build them up and develop nice synergy with our mids, only to throw in Goldy for 1 year then back to Pitto/TDK in 2024? Just doesn't make sense.

We certainly need to focus on key forward and defender depth...maybe a young developing player and/or a mature player like Jack Hayes, especially since we want to be contending very soon. A 18 year old might not be ready to fill in. Could look for another Lewis Young type from another club...a number of years in the AFL system so ready to perform but happy to move.

At the end of the year we will need to pick up a young small defender to replenish our stocks in that position.

While I think we have enough AFL ready depth, a young small defender coming through will help balance out our age profile down back and they can learn from our current HBF crop.

By round 1 2023 we will have:
Newman 30yo
Docherty 29yo
Saad 28yo
Williams 28yo
&
Boyd 24yo
Stocker 23yo

There are more pressing needs for us to address in the Mid-Season draft and also with our 1st National Draft pick, but we should look to draft a young small defender with our 2nd or 3rd ND pick this offseason.

I tend to agree with this though I’d be thinking more 3rd round onwards and probably be taking one every year late in the draft for the next few seasons.

If posters are determined to get a quality young small defender, the mid season draft is an option. Massimo D’ambrosio was super impressive in the young guns game. Currently on Richmond’s Covid top up list. Tough, accountable and absolute quality disposal. Only 178cm, but would not be an issue with his style of play.

Not one to get excited about small defenders, and we have a stack, but this kid will be a quality AFL player for a long time. Brings a hard edge that never goes astray. Disposal could easily be described with that overused word “elite”.

Probably not tbh. Pretty sure we already have a spot left and while Liam Jones has retired he still accounts for a spot iirc.

I can only see us freeing up 1 extra roster spot, but wouldn't put my house on it.
OMac has another stress fracture in his back, just like last year he'll be placed on the inactive list so we can get another pick in the MSD. He'll be delisted at the end of the year.

This is a genuine question, but is your statement based on some inside knowledge, or is an opinion based on observed facts? If it's the latter, I agree with your opinion. It's difficult to see OMac with us next year.

Omac surely is done for this year. Long term injury him, offer to re-rookie him if he gets the all clear. Cannot rely on him to be a factor at all this season.

Gov, worth keeping as he may be ready come tail end of season and could be handy in finals.

Ed with Carroll now showing something, Dow doing okay in VFL, and reasonable midfield depth at present not sure he's needed either. I'd long term him too and offer him captaincy of VFL next year and/or part of fitness/coaching role in WAFL/VFL etc.

If we can knock those two off and go in midseason with 3 picks. Target a ruck and 2 KPD or even 3KPD and hopefully we find a gem.

Certainly has the ring of truth.

If he's out for an indeterminate amount of time, we're probably better placing him on the inactive list and finding a fit KPD to take his place. He differs from Gov in that regard because Gov has weapons you're just not going to find in a MSD pick (combination of size, speed, hands, vision and disposal) - should be able to find a fair substitute for OMac, but any Gov alternative is going to be a significant downgrade. Cut OMac for a like-for-like, hold Gov and try and have him primed for finals.

There's also the old rumour that OMac went to some lengths to hide his back issues prior to being picked up by the club. Can't blame a guy for trying to push through and extend his career, but if it's not looking like the issue is going away then delisting him is probably the right call too. Bought a lemon (for lemon prices).
