I'd take both Sholl and Acres, if possible. If only one, I'd take Sholl.

While Acres is an overall better winger, and more physical, Sholl is a much better ball-user. He lowers his eyes and hit targets regularly, while Acres tends to dump kick it high. Works OK for Freo since they have an effective range of forwards who are able to either win possession at HF or stop the opposition from quickly rebounding. We have consistently done the opposite.

One of our biggest weaknesses this year was dump kicking toward the F50 and getting killed in transition by better running teams. Acres will not likely change that unless we also bolster the HF line, but Sholl just may with our current setup

Pitto to Briggs gives us a brute of a ruck who can go back or forward permanently if required (though would need to lean down a little). If we were after a permanent starting ruck, I would target Flynn from there instead, though he's also under contract.

I would argue it's Owies into Sproule to change the mix, with Fisher into a pick AND Johannisen. Newman into Wilson is an upgrade in terms of what we had Newman for, in terms of playing as a stopper or interceptor, Newman is 5th or 6th, and that's about where Wilson would be. I'm not seeing Newman as best 22 next year, and we need more run than he can give. Plowman, Fogarty, Hayes, and Ed would be replaced at the drafts.

In terms of appeal for them, they are the next in line in the reserves, and there's no way we're going to have a completely fit and firing best 22. They'll get games, they'll get subbed in, they may even outpace the development and form of others. Certainly the GWS talls and Sholl have way more opportunities. Not sure how you thought I was going to give up players mostly in our 20-35 bracket and turn that TPP and list space into players who'd be ranked at 10-20 on our list.

For the record, I don't see us getting anything of note for Newman, Plowman, Pittonet, it's more about changing up the mix of the list.

He's out of contract. Probably DFA or PSD.
He’s not going to be a DFA Jim. No way. And if he went PSD quoting 350 a year he’s not lasting to us.

We trade for him or we don’t get him.

JSOS might get you a 3rd rounder, don't have much else to trade unless we wanted to give up top tier player, which I don't think we will or should

surely jsos proved his worth this year. He was thrown around like a tennis ball at a picnic this year and still managed to play some goodfooty.
We just need to find a fulltime role for him

Just saying we don't have much to trade if we want to trade, he would be someone who we may get a player we like for.

I don't think we will or should trade him but we don't have much currency if we are looking to trade someone in

Don't trade the grandson of Sergio under any circumstances.

Zac Fisher is an expendable player who may have some currency if we are going down that path

Think he was the player with most amount of marks on the lead in the early part of the year. Role changed with his versatility.

If we recruit Blake Acres, requesting permission to call him Blacres...

Wouldn't be expensive.

Is 30yo and half the player he was at his peak.
Also used at the other end of the ground. I think he's much more suited to wing or HB in the current state of the game, and our gameplan for that matter.

Don't think any of Fisher, Newman or Pitto will be traded. More hope of Dow being traded for a 3rd rounder at best, add the Jones compensation

Acres, Sholl, McAsey all cheap, role players

Then go to the draft
I know you don`t rate Dow Arr0w but considering he is contracted for next season and was a pick 3, then if another team wants him we just demand a second rounder (even if it`s a later pick) or they can go **** themselves!!!

Then he's playing for us next season and we are getting nothing for him the following season when uncontracted.

Refer sps as an example of turning a loss into a win (if you know what I mean).

Personally I would hang on to Dow, but people willing to trade 3 players that are likely to remain best 22 is truly bizarre

People also need to forget where a player was drafted, once they walk into the club, it's all about output

Harry's been caught twilighting again...

You can specify contract terms very precisely when nominating for the pre-season draft. We'd probably be in a space where we can offer him a front-loaded deal.
Where’s this rubbish idea coming from?
Wilson on a 2 year deal is sound considering our small defensive depth this year was very obviously exposed. It was also contingent on moving on Plowman and Newman via cheap trades. Perhaps a little more salary involved than Newman, but much more successful offensive output.
Is he 30. Bloody hell. He has gotten older much quicker than I have! Move along nothing to see here.

Hey Siri, is researching before posting a good idea? .....!
Nothing wrong with putting a 2 or 3 year contract in front of a player like that to make the jump. Plays hard, and Russell has made a career out of managing players very similar to him.
