Can't really imagine him going anywhere other than Carlton.
If Carlton don't up their offer I can imagine him going anywhere but Carlton. Chasing the best player on the trade market who's contracted for the next three years but not being willing to give up pick 11 is taking the piss.

I would take Bolton for Houston in a heartbeat.
It’s easy to say this now that Dan has requested a trade and a small forward that can play mid is a need for port. But it doesn’t necessarily mean he is worth more.

After all Dan is back to back AA and probs best half back and field kick in the league.

I think more clubs will show there hands closer to trade week. St Kilda interest seemed to cool when the Merrett offer come out. Merrett staying at Essendon so they may turn attention back to Houston. Think he would be a huge upgrade for the contending Bulldogs they have Dureya, Bramble and O’Donnell in their backline. Will receive atleast 1 first rd pick for Smith and McRae.

Can Houston warm up to Melbourne again? IIRC, Melbourne were happy to part ways with their pick 5 and next years 1st Round Pick for Houston according to Tom Morris before the whole Petracca debacle blew up. 🙏

Ah sorry, yeah I wasn't being specific on 11, I just meant Carlton's 1st this year and next year. They'll probably get Saint Kilda's 2nd round back from the Soldo trade.

Something like:
OUT: Houston, Soldo
IN: Carlton 1st 2024, Carlton 1st 2025

Carlton
IN: Houston, StKilda 2nd 2024
OUT: Carlton 1st 2024, Carlton 1st 2025

StKilda
IN: Soldo
OUT: StKilda 2nd 2024

When I look at our list, ignoring contracts I would go the following.

RETIRE/TRADE: Dixon, Boak, Houston, Soldo, McKenzie ----- (List size 38 - 33m, 5r)

Note: All info indicates McEntee and Williams are currently on the rookie list

OBVIOUS DELIST: Narkle, F Evans, Jackson (Re-rookie), Clurey (Re-rookie) ----- (36, 30m, 6r)

UPGRADE: L Evans, Williams, McEntee ----- (36, 33m, 3r)

IN: Lukosius, Cumming, Perryman, CAT B - Benny Barrett ------ (39, 36m, 3r, 1cB)

So IF we hit all our targets, we in theory might have a 1st, a couple 2nd rounders and a 3rd rounder to use, plus we have some father sons to look at. With only 2 spots on the list and a rookie spot. So we'll need to cut a bit deeper.

According to the internet there are only 3 more uncontracted players. McCallum, Scully, K Marshall. So 2 of them will need to go at a minimum, possibly all 3.

So my final predicted outs are:
Dixon
Boak
McKenzie
Narkle
F Evans
Jackson (re-rookied)
Clurey (re-rookied)
Houston
Soldo
McCallum
K Marshall
Scully

If that eventuated that'd be a huge turnover.

McCallum, Scully and K Marshall are probably all sitting there waiting to hear what happens with Cumming and Perryman.

McCallum, Marshall and Scully all obvious targets for delisting but shit that leaves us ultra thin in terms of KPD and KPF stocks. Would absolute want us to go after Lewis Young/Harry Lemmey/Matt Taberner for depth if that's the case

Any reason why any of these potential younger delistees can't be employed by the club, say waterboys, etc, for a bit of cash, play in the ammos and then get selected for the magoos as top up players?

Jackson is contracted for 2025. Doubt they'd be able to delist then re-rookie, but maybe anything is possible.

Happens all the time, it is why you re-rookie, rather than just waste money on someone not on your list. Clurey is also contracted for 2025.

So I would delist and rookie both, we're already paying for them so I don't reckon we'll waste the soft cap getting rid of them. Keep Clurey as backup and give Jackson 1 more year to see what he can do.
