The game was in the balance until the last quarter. It's an indictment on Beveridge we weren't ten goals up at half time given the side Geelong fielded. Look at the Geelong "outs" and the dead rubber that the game was for them Bevo deserves no credit and this game reinforces that he needs to go.
I guess that the players and their unwillingness and choosing to when to go, lay a tackle or adjust to their opponents pressure had no effect on the first half at all then.

I understand the desire to see the back of Beveridge. Im down with that.

But it shits me no end how much the players get a free pass in here when people rush to lay all of the blame at the coaches feet.

I have a feeling that Scott told them to take it easy in the second half or at least the last quarter. They probably have someone in the draft whom they are keen on getting at their current position.

I have a feeling he is spewing they lost - Scott would love to have won with a severely undermanned side. I know I would if I was him.he’s a competitive beast - it’s why he is so good.

The difference between Lobb and English in the centre square was stark. Lobb was far more competitive at ground level. 5 centre clearances for Lobb. A few leading directly to goals. English averages 1.2 centre clearances per game.

Probably should have tried Lobb for longer stints in the middle earlier instead of rolling English through there at a league leading level all season. Might have helped Lobb find some better form in the first half of the season and mitigated some of those drubbings English copped throughout the year.

Lobb was great and deserves credit for his last month really but was very good tonight stepping into the ruck for English who was terrible in the first half.

Richards continued his strong year. I liked west through the middle.

Unfortunately mclean is just lacks mobility after his second knee.

VDM makes too many errors.

I dont doubt that it was big contributing factor.

However an argument could also be made that it was as much a coaching effort.

From the comfort of my couch it looked like Beveridge was swinging players all over the joint looking for a winning formula.

If he's going to cop his share of brickbats like he did in the game day thread, then he deserves some part of a bouquet for the changes he swung tonight.

I don’t want to take anything away from Lobbs game, because he was great, but the Cats mids were sitting flat footed in those centre square contests especially in that last quarter and our mids including Lobb just walked it out.

Not surprising considering the 22 they had on the park. They were always going to drop away.

Lobb improving since his omission. Hopefully he takes that confidence in to next season. A proper one/two punch in English and Lobb will be difficult for opponents when both up and about.

As this boards biggest Lobbstan. Ive never understood the outside noise about his season. Let alone the noise generated in here.

He's delivered exactly what I expected from him this year. Good games. games where he's gone missing and tonight.

The good has far out weighed the bad in my view.

The criticism becomes a meme.

You compare his output this year to what we were rolling through that position last year and it’s night and day. He’s been a significant improvement.

Now all we need to do is defeat Geelong in 6 finals, win about 17 of our next 20 matches over the next 20 years or so, and we’ll have gotten even with the pricks.

Easy!
Exactly. It all started with that prick Brownless in that final in the 90s. Prick did nothing all day and the ball fell in his lap from an I'll directed kick which is just typical luck that Geelong always get against us

I will never get over the pain those C U Next Tuesdays have done against us unless we do something like what you have suggested above and win about 20 games in a row and beat them in a few finals.

The dis taste I have for those campaigners is off the charts..

Absolutely he deserves some credit for the moves tonight, and I know no one’s going to take me seriously on this subject but ****, why now? Why has it taken this long to this drastic of a situation to fling the magnets around a little and make in game moves?

Genuine question? I really don’t get it, he’s played the last 18 months so obnoxiously safe and tonight there was some forward thinking involved, that’s all we’ve been asking for?

it's classic lobb though...this is the dead rubber and the past two weeks were against awful opposition. We needed him to show up earlier in the season.

Except most of his lesser games were when we went 7-2 and he’s been much better as the team has stunk it up the rest of the season. It’s not like he’s just racking up goals while we’re flying.

He was a victim of being the only sore point for people when our record was great. His good form while the team around him has struggled hasn’t gotten the same attention.

Bont tonight:

31 disposals at 80% efficiency
14 contested possessions
10 tackles
6 clearances

How am I reading comments from fans of other teams celebrating that he won’t get any votes after tonight? It’s 2 at minimum if anyone actually watched the game

When English drifts fwd , it forces the others to spread out and not play in each other's pockets ,I noticed this in one of naughty's final goals .
Prior to that, naughty ,Marra and Cody were like conjoined triplets in some instances

Absolutely jubilant to win at the Cattery in a must win game.
Fingers crossed now for the blues game.
I like the contrast from being capable of playing a sport to following my club that I know f all about the inside runnings.
Please gove me another week to support my enjoyment of watching the Footscray Football Club.

Look, it feels like he's become a far too conservative and passive a coach over the last couple of years.

But Ive never brought into the trope that he just sits on his hands with his thumbs up his arse.

But as somebody who hasn't been to a game in 3 years. Its a difficult thing to judge from the comfort of my couch and a few beers in.
