St Kilda fans will get some flack about this until the season starts and he finally gets to play with a bunch of disciplined guns and really makes a difference. He may not even get a tag each week.

Essendon have done fantastic. Could not have done better than that.
But to be honest, Lovett is just what the Saints need. They have done well with their trading over the last 2 years. He is the missing link in the chain.
Considering this is a weak draft and Saints already have a whole heap of kids at VFL level just begging for a game like Armitage, Steven, Lynch, McEvoy etc...they have done what they had to do to get the forward crumbing/midfielder with extreme speed that they desperately needed. He is better than Peake as well.
Good deal all-round. Both teams would walk away thinking they screwed the other.

God I hope not. We're not like Collingwood/Hawks/Saints in that we're challenging for a flag. I really hope we keep the picks and surely either 10 or 16 has to give us at least one gun player for the next decade.

I can understand why the saints would trade for him though.
They've got hard ball winners, and Lovett will add some flair to that midfield.
They're also in that premiership window, so might as well go for it instead of dying wondering. He could kick that goal instead of a point when it needs to be kicked.

Milne, McQualter, Eddy, Raph Clarke, Dempster???
Perhaps they are not similar players, but they were liabilities on GF day (except for Eddy who didn't play and rightly so because he did nothing in finals)

He will become an out and out gun at Moorabbin. With guys like Dal Santo and Hayes feeding the ball out to him, Roo and Kosi are about to get some silver-plated service. Essendon on the other hand get another good pick. Good deal all round.

He will wrip games to shreds next year playing for St Kilda. He'll rarely get tagged. Essendon got a sensational deal here.
At the end of the day he is worth what someone is willing to pay. Therefore he is worth a late first round pick. Great work Essendon!

Where is Mr. Longshanks? I thought he said there was no way we'd get a first rounder for Lovett.
As much as people are saying Essendon won this deal, I can see Lovett breaking out next year, copping less attention, and proving them all wrong.
Sad to see him go, but happy we got fair compensation.
Lovett will be a star next season at saints. With no tag he will run riot. Good trade by them and probs best case scenario as he was willing to go to psd.
