Saints have paid way over the odds here. Essendon would be ecstatic.

Most pundits would think Essendon wins this deal, but it is an unknown in a weaker draft so as usual time will tell.
Milne and Lovvett to aply rapings...to defences, during the season but to be brought into custody by the sherrif names finals pressure.
Interesting deal, pretty fair I guess. St Kilda have o need to bust out a youth policy now, their time is now, and Essendon get a pick theat they wont get from anyone else.

This is a terrible comment...people overate draft picks...its a maybe versus a given. St Kilda need a player who can contribute in the next couple of years...not in 2-3 years time.

I am so happy with that trade, pace and class is exactly what we needed. Lovett is exactly, that and he is a class finisher as well.

Lovett will probably never be tagged at St kilda due to the quality of his teammates Dal Santo, Montagna, Hayes.
Less attention from taggers and probably the 4th best midfielder from the opposition club will mean Lovett will probably tear it up for St kilda on the wing.
Correct about not worth a 1st rounder & in this draft #16 is worth an early 20's pick in a 'normal' draft (early 2nd rounder). So probably very even in terms of Lovett's worth.
Very happy to finally get a player with 'pure' pace. We will still end up with a 1st round pick or another quality player with the Ball trade too.
A good result for St Kilda & a good result for the re-building Bombers.

They have paid over the top I think, but in a weak draft, and with so many kids already banging on the door for games, pick 16 is more valuable to Essendon than it is to St.Kilda...especially if Essendon want to go for a Burgoyne.
I call it a win win. On the surface it looks like Essendon win...and they would feel like they have won.
But when you look deep down, the Saints would be very happy with this.

I love the way he plays footy and although his time with us was troubled, I hope he sorts it out and plays great footy against the 14 other teams in the comp.

This is probably the first win/win in trade week, all the other deals have been lopsided. He's exactly what the Saints need with his pace and skills while Essendon get about roughly what he's worth - pick #16. People might say that's overs but IMO it's about right especially given that's worth about pick #20+ in last year's very strong draft. No matter what you think of him as a person he's proved he's a pretty good footballer.

in all seriousness i reckon St.Kilda win in this trade. Pick 16 will mean little to the saints in this time frame. Their premiership window is now, and i feel that Lovett is just the icing on the cake to bring them their next premiership.
If St.kilda win the premiership next year, although it will not be just because of Lovett, but because they added another piece to their puzzle to create that opportunity.

Would Port Accept Picks 10 and 15 for Burgoyne, or would a guy like Nash need to be thrown in as well (as he was 'reportedly' being offered)???

i've seen lovett play well in some big games...he's only really played one final I beleive and that was against Adelaide this year...and well...every essendon player had their colours lowered that night. Otherwise...he's performed in our other big games (Carlton, Collingwood etc). Not sure where this goes missing in big games comes from.
Essendon will not be thinking we "r*ped" Saints in this deal as some flogs mention. He is a very talented and frustrating player but Saints dont care, they just need a talented line breaker and that is what he is.
Pretty even down the middle, win/win for both clubs. Lovett will be a better player at St.Kilda than Essendon, a fresh start often invigorates a player that is lacking direction.
