Traded Luke Jackson [Traded with #44 and #67 to Fremantle for #13, F1 and F2]

almost as laughable as a late first and a 2nd rounder for a pick 3, rising star who is only 20.

Sure…Luke wants to go home. 13 and a future second on the table…is it enough? I think so for what he’s produced and factoring in some increase in output.
Do Melbourne like it?

probably not any more than we liked losing Cerra for 6 and a bag of chips. Cerra, who had produced a damn sight more tbh.

However we should not be coughing up more. Melbourne can bitch and moan but they’re even less likely to kick Jackson into the PSD than I am of waking up naked next to Scarlett Johansen

Maybe Port are set on someone they can get with a later pick like Isaac Keeler and are happy to trade down if they can get some extra benefit.

Maybe 8 + F2nd for 13 + F1st makes sense in this case. Freo could on trade 8 + a F2nd for Jackson.
You might consider that as a port fan as the idea of 2 firsts in 2023 is appealing,

But that is a drop back out of the elite end of the draft to a teens pick, and might just end up an upgrade of a pick in the 20’s to a teen pick.

It’s decent, but is it great for port who have no need to get involved and drop out of a range in a draft we hardly get to pick in?

We’ve probably had around 5 top 8 picks in our afl history at a guess.

We gave up 2 2nd rounders to move from 11 to 6 in 2018.

We gave up Ladhams to move two spots last year

And a second rounder to move up 2 spots again.

If ports pick 8 is needed to help a trade they don’t need to be involved in, I would hope we get well overs to be involved.

Freo / melbs best hope might be we want to slide back (Parker traditionally prefers to trade up) or hope we desperately want out of this draft and into 2023.

But that’s far from certain.

You clearly haven't factored into your analysis the fact that Jackson is a ruckman who typically develop later. I'm sure you can't name 5 rucks his age that have done as much? 3? 2? Midfielders grow on trees.

Anyway, this thread has been going on all year and finally his worth is evolving. Imagine if he was in contract, it'd be 3 first rounders.

Freo fans have clearly overlooked the scarcity of the ruck position and how rare they come along. If Darcy went down with a big injury who is next in line? Assuming Lobb and Meek leave, Eric Benning is your starting ruckman. Eric Benning.

Ruck is the least important position on the ground hence this year it was Rhys Stanley vs Tom Hickey and they already have a better ruckman

True this year. But not true in 2021.

I would also say that Hickey was absolutely monstered in the ruck which was probably a 5 goal difference on that day. If Gawn was rucking for Sydney he wouldn't have had those 2 goals kicked on him by Hawkins for starters, not yo mention Stanley jumping all over him. Hickey had a howler.

The year before it was Stanley vs Nankervis the year before that it was Nankervis vs Mumford the year before that Lycett vs Grundy before that Nankervis vs Jacobs the year before that Roughead vs Naismith. In the last 6 years only 1 other AA squad player let alone team has made the GF

Can see the Jackson deal not getting done until the very end.
Yep, this one is going the distance, as usually happens with players of this ilk and when competing assets are this far apart

The Demons are not prepared to add an extra pick to the deal, with the Dockers not keen to use an extra selection to move up the board.

West Coast has also looked closely at Jackson and has the No.2 pick in the pre-season draft if a trade fell through, but the Eagles are not prepared to use their No.2 national draft selection in a direct deal for the 21-year-old.

Said it a while ago, but Jackson not nominating a club was never a good thing for Melbourne. It means deal with Freo or he can walk

I clearly have and he’s have to develop into Simon Madden to justify the price you think he’s worth.
There is no chance of that happening. And we don’t need to trade either Meek or Lobb.
Freo never over look the ruck. We ALWAYS have ruck depth

Good. We shouldn't be looking to do any of this pick 8 rubbish that keeps coming up.

13 + Future 1st for Jackson + a pick is clearly enough.

He is not worth pick 3 now in hindsight.
Incredulous Excuse Me GIF

I preferred it when you were on school holidays.

Assuming Darcy is injured and your 2 other rucks leave, you will only have a developing ruck?

No shit Sherlock.

Pretty sure it’s your bed time

Nah, can’t lose Mundy, Lobb, Logue, Acres from the best 22 and improve.

Losing depth like Meek and Tucker who both played a reasonable amount of game time too, won’t help.

We are going into 2023 with one of the youngest, if not the youngest list in the AFL. If you look at 2022 averages we are going to be considerably younger having retired the 87 year old David Mundy. Drops our average age a lot.
We are also losing a lot of size. Those are big boys.

Maybe Goodwin is ahead of the curve and having the #1 and 2 ruckmen in tandem will be a game changer. Someone has to break things open.
Can’t see it working personally but wish you luck trying it better to lose trying to be different then lose copying everyone else
