Come on.

Name me one 20 year old part time ruck/forward who has gotten 2 Brownlow votes in a year.

Damian Houlihan

He failed to kick a goal that day but had 3 hit outs.
He was 18. And didn’t play past that yeas 11 games total.

It was a joke about Danster mate.

I guess you had to be there :)

I think Luke Jackson is going to West Coast.

Can't see Freo stumping up what is required

I believe this as well, but the other way around. A lot more reckless for us to do it rather than Fremantle. And all the talk for the last 6 months is Fremantle is where he is going

Genuinely interested, why would it be reckless to swap pick 2 for Jackson?

He’s a Perth boy and a de-risked pick 3 from 3 years ago. He also plays a position you have a clear gap in with Nat on his last legs.

It is much more risky to take it to the draft - the last 10 years of judgeable drafts shows 50% of pick 2s are busts, you would encounter potential go home factor (not sure on WA talent in this years draft? There may be someone up there).

To me it’s crazy WC wouldn’t be throwing pick 2 at him. But then again as a Dees fan, I’m more plainly aware than others of how worthless draft picks can be.

Maybe its about the money they would also have to throw at him this early in the rebuild

I tend to agree but West Coast hasn't had a pick this high in more than a decade and it's got some fans salivating; that and the fact many think it's easier to find a serviceable ruck than an elite midfielder later in the draft. I would like to split pick 2 into another high first round pick and later pick, give Melbourne the higher pick and a second rounder for Jackson and take the later first round pick to the draft. That said, it's all irrelevant if Jackson doesn't want to come to West Coast.

This is more interesting than people give it credit for.

Lets assume Jackson is happy to go to West Coast and West Coast want him as part of their build assuming both are patient and know its not happening straight away

Ignoring draft picks for the moment what players would Melbourne accept from West Coast?

The thing is I do not think Freo are right in contention at the moment. They are close but not quite yet. I assume they think Jackson will get them closer but how closer and what more do they think they need to do?

West Coast would have more wriggle room but clearly take longer

I'd like for the AFL to deny permission to WCE to trade or split their first-round pick. Surely the intent of that rule is not to prevent foolish clubs from turning into old folks homes but rather to foster development and preserve the integrity of the draft as an equalisation tool.

But what do I know? I only support a mid-sized club who the AFL feel quite comfy in kicking around as they knobpolish the top end of town and give random hand-outs to the leper clubs.

That said, Jackson to WCE makes waaaaaay more sense than Jackson to Freo. Shame they're already paying top dollar to all those old blokes.

They need permission to trade pick 2.

Taranto is proven and 24, he is worth more than Jackson
Wrong again.

A slow midfielder with below average disposal skills really has little value. Just because he plays for GWS and was a high draft pick (seems to be the factor most posters on this site use to determine value) means very little. Richmond is going to be taken to the cleaners this trade period for two ordinary players.

Jackson is the rarest of commodities, an athletic ruck/forward. Melbourne should be demanding three first round draft picks.
