Hiring Malthouse was always a terrible idea, which has led to a predictable outcome. Carlton's list wasn't good enough to push for a premiership in the near future, and Mick was too old to properly redevelop the culture of the club and the list overall. Malthouse taking the reigns was a dumb move on behalf of both parties. Mick can't have really believed Carlton were in a realistic position to challenge under him.

read up on the role Carlton played in moving the Swans up north, and then trying to roll the club up completely in the early 90's.

**** em.

Visy may have bought shares during the board election process before the move, but that wasnt Carlton, no matt

Carlton didnt try to roll up the Swans in the 90s. The AFL was looking at its options when the private ownership started to go belly up and one of those options was an elliot suggestion that the Blues play all their away games in Sydney, underwritten by a proposed massive sponsorship from Tooheys. Carlton never pushed to roll up the Swans that Im aware of.

Yep

Shafted you guys, tried to take over norf, tried to have us booted from the league, and then of course the break away idea

It's one club (with norf) I'll never even piss on to bail them out of anything

Merger negotiations and buyouts with North (twice) - and St Kilda (in 1995) - were part of noit just that plan, but AFL strategy at the time. The last negotiations with North were in 1999, and they ended when both clubs played in the Grand Final. The Saints deal ended when the Blues won the flag.

The breakaway idea is directly credited in Football limited and the phoenix rises for being instrumental in the creation of the Australian Football League.

They may. But few before them have. Even coaches who were told they "had the job for life." :D

They could defect to their former club to become an assistant coach, become embroiled in a drug scandal, and then walk away in disgrace, with the club not even inviting them to their premiership re-union dinners.

There are quite a few people on the board who have been there for a long time and who have presided over the decline of this once powerful club. Perhaps they should consider their positions.

Exactly. The whole saga was doomed to failure from the outset, and this is why he had to go. They need a complete overhaul from top to bottom, and there is no point piss farting around to the end of the season before starting to do something about it.

I feel like micks age counted against him in terms of rebuilding the club

Seems to me they just keep throwing coaches out looking for the next saviour

Feel for mick the playing group and the fans to be hones

People should listen to the SEN interview with Mick with an open mind.
What did he say that was unreasonable? Pretty rational, candid and fair assessment of the situation.
Some posters on BF saying he alienated his staff or players are quite frankly talking bullshit. Listen to Judd and the players reaction to his sacking.
Listen to Micks comments regarding his support staff, Wiley etc. Facts are Mick joined Carlton under Swann and Kernahan who unfortunately were on their way out the door due to the usual shit politics and egos. Trigg stuffed Adelaide and hasn't improved in his running of Carlton.

I take no delight in the demise of a coach with Malthouses status in the game. He is still a great coach who backs his players and who has made a great contribution to AFL football. Parochial shitstirring should be placed on hold in such situations. It is not like the way Ross Lyon left St Kilda in the shit. Malthouse should be afforded some consideration and respect.

Chasing Thomas like a pack of dogs.

campaigners.

Oh good, they've sacked the coach, now the players will be twice as good, money will flow, wins will come, and the members who refused to come out to previous games will be replaced by unicorns farting out rainbows.

Right?

The AFL media summarised in one image.

Not included: Barrett strapped to the bottom of Daisy's car, Sideshow Bob style.

I agree Mick was probably never going to get anywhere

But most importantly we need to sack the sackees

Can we have the 'Trigg is shit' thread back in it's own right?

Too good to be thrown into the mix with these other topics.
Ah, Trigg. I love that glorious man.
