Alot of Feeling in the game. Good tradition. Packs out the MCG. Good for our game. Why fix somthing that isnt broken?

did you watch a football game or a war ? It's nice that you enjoyed the occasion and a poor game but don't confuse a football game with a war.lasher said:

Actually, I don't really care who plays in it as long as its not the Eagles. When Anzac day falls mid-weed, it would totally stuff up preparation for the game itself, and either the game before or after.

What an idea.From now on lets let the AFL at the beginning of round 5 select their 2 most exciting clubs at that present time and they can play on Anzac Day. Great idea!weagles_fan said:

I was at the game and I throughly enjoyed the day. Good, tough, hard footy game. You want to have a sook go ahead but until you actually go to an Essendon v Collingwood ANZAC Day Game you can't begin to understand how great the day is.weagles_fan said:

haha yeah you can't change the teams (unfortunetly) That was terrible footy today from 2 supposed proud clubs. OMG it was c-grade amatuers v e-grade amateurs wasn't it???

I don't care who plays on Anzac day,the teams are irrelivent.Having said that though it was a glorified scrap between two sides who will most probably finish bottom 4.Really poor game,but it will happen from time to time as teams take their turn at the bottom.In fairness they have played some good ones when they were decent sides.In recent times that hasn't been the case,and wont be for a while.But they seem to enjoy it and it gives them a sense of importance so let it be.Apologies to Shaw and Lovett who made it interesting.

We do have excuses unlike the bummers. Take out any sides Captain,VC and there 2 best ruckmen and they will struggle. Maybe not as bad as collingwood. In 2003 we had a better team than played today (ie Buckley, Rocca) and Essendon blew the game out of the water. So what figures.

What a bunch of whining.
Ess and Coll started this and made it was it is now. It's a huge day here in Melbourne. I don't see what the fuss is about. It's about rivalry between to old enemies etc. Much like, but of course very very different, to the war that involved the brave Anzac's.
- The AFL knows that it will be a sellout, regardless of the capacity as Ess and Coll have the biggest membership bases in Vic. Saint's not too far behind. And as we know The AFL do everything because of $$$ and nothing else. Don't forget Friday night game opportunities and unfair draws also people if you are going to complain.
- S.A and W.A have it's Derby's (sp?) twice a season. Is that unfair because 12 other teams don't get the chance to have the much publicised Derby twice a year? Sure there is Vic based clubs that always play each other twice a year but it's not built up like the Derby's. Keep the Derby's in those states as they are great for marketing football.
- Or is it the fact that we play on a public holiday and get all the focus? I know specifically being Anzac Day cannot be the reason for all this complaining. Every game this weekend has the tribute to the mighty Anzac's, the last post and national anthem. OK, so maybe you don't get the sky divers or the helicopter. Don't forget the other public holiday games that are played in the season. Funny that Collingwood plays in all 3 of them this year, let's check some other seasons:

Yes, the skills weren't the best today but at the end of the day it's the whole package that makes the day what it is. I can't wait to be there in 2007 when the MCG is finished and Ess v Coll line up again for another classic game which will be a sellout and pack the +100,000 capacity MCG to the rafters.
