Knights had little say in our recruiting. He originally stated he wanted to draft Sidebottom, but he has since backtracked after Hurleys good form.

After Sheedys exit the final decision on recruiting was taken away from the coaches and left to the recruiting department.

Essendon has always been an attacking team and while Knights worked very hard, he was useless and him and his amateur coaching panel did more harm than good.

He wanted his own assistants and picked inexperienced soft ***** like Campo and Prescott and a dud Hickmont.

Knights was hated by the players in the end as they knew the game plan was rubbish, just like the rest of the football community and public.

He tried hard but has no idea of how to be successful, and in some ways it's not his fault as he has never experienced a successful culture. The previous CEO was to blame.

Peter Jackson, YOU SUCK.

I was waiting for something like this... Lets be honest Knights was a terrible CHOICE by Jackson and Horshead period! All Knights did was back them up... How can a coach demand his players put thier heads over the ball when he as a player never did... Hird can show hours of footy of him doing that.... And that is your answer .... RESPECT!. Knights never had it and Hird demands it..

Funny it occurred to me watching yesterdays draw how much Essendon were playing the same style of play as Geeelong used to. It was also commented on TV how Hird was taking a lot of advice from his assistants in the last quater. Full credit to Essendon for engineering this setup so Bomber Thompson can leave a club and coach at another club without appearing to be the one doing the coaching.

Sorry not trolling, I know you Bombers fans want to love Hird, but I cant accept that this turnaround is because of anyone other than a certain dual premiership "assistant". But full credit nonetheless.

I see similarities between knights tenure at essendon to that of judge at west coast. Both replaced long term succesful coaches who had left their respective sides with poor lists that needed rebuilding and both were then repaced in turn by a prodigal son after taking many of the bruises that ate a result of turning over a list

should essendon win a flag under hird at some stage expect a couple of quiet nods to knights from some sections but most supporters will look back at the knights years as a dark period and will be grateful that he was removed and replaced by hird

he won't get much credit

The only thing he will be getting from Essendon is the excessive financial payout (thanks Peter Jackson), in fact he already has it.

You haven't seen a group of players and club as a whole so relieved to see the back of one individual. Reflected in their football at the moment as well. People can't even say his name down there these days without cringing.

Moving on...

During Judge's tenure we drafted Glass, Hunter, Cox & Kerr. We then finished 3rd last enabling us to get Judd.

He definitely played some role in our success.:)

Hurley, Melksham etc. were selected during Knights' tenure - how much he had to do with that I have no idea.

Knights was on a hiding to nothing, as he inherited an absolute stinker of a list once Essendon finally got the aggots to tell Sheedy his time was up (pity it was 3 years too late).

Knights then somehow managed to get the rabble of a list into the finals.........he upset plenty of people by getting rid of the old fav's....guys like Lloyd, Lucas etc, would a bloke like Hird have had the b0ll0cks to tell old team-mates that their time was up??

Knights fast tracked the clubs turnaround.

As the West Coast bloke commented, because his time came between a coaching legend who left the club in tatters, and the new golden boy....he will always be given nothing.

Because Fletcher would have retired and at least 3 players would have transferred.

well that's just the players being petulant children and you can't really fault a coach for that

the bombers current gameplan is still very similar to the one they used under knights, and all their success this year has been achieved upon the foundation that knights built

Umm... did you happen to see any of the game yesterday at all?

We would of lost that game by 6+ goals had Knights been coaching.

The defensive component of our game has improved dramatically. And as a domino effect other areas are improving as well. Knights has very conveniently come out recently and declared that he was going to work on the defensive deficiencies on our game this year had he still been coach. Had it not already dawned on him in the previous three seasons when we were so heavily scored against to bother tinkering with the defensive gameplan at all? Clearly not.

If you were doing well financially, hated your boss and had to carry out his instructions when they were ridiculous and at the same time you could go home and be employed by another employer with a proven track record would you go?

Our gameplan is virtually the complete opposite of then one we played under Knights.

You have to get over this Bomber obsession one day, why not make it today....

cute

those "ridiculous instructions" took you to a finals series, btw

1 year out of 3 and with 10 wins and a draw, only to be annihilated next week and falling back to bottom 4 the next year.

It's ok, i understand your Bomber hatred and like most of BF no one wants to give Hird any credit so they will place it onto Knights.
