Opinion Matthew Nicks: Adelaide's Coach (Part 2) - Full Support of the Board

Is Matthew Nicks the right coach for Adelaide?

  • Firmly yes (I love what I'm seeing)

  • Leaning yes

  • Can't decide either way

  • Leaning no (but don't sack him yet)

  • Firmly no (he should be sacked)

Now you have Nicks managing every aspect of the footy dept .....recruiting, development, list management

You're stuck in the wrong era

Crouch has been the root cause of most of our issues this year .....he's slowed down our ball movement, and the Cornes assessment in the post I posted, whereby the game has moved on from possession accumulators who do know harm ....is absolutely spot on point

Nearly all Clubs have moved those player types out of their midfields .......the Rankine into the midfield should have been much earlier, if not for Crouch ......Crouch's selection is the biggest black mark on Nicks coaching this year
Who is responsible for development if not Nicks?

I think they should try literally anyone but Smith then. Laird getting our most CBAs still is also concerning to me.

We're losing with him there anyway, trying others isn't going to cost us anything.
IMO it's got to that point ...season over, Ryan must be close ....if not Smith, then Hamill .....Hamill was horrible in the 3rd qtr ...inept

Wayne - Crouch Laird and Smith are cooked

Nicks - keeps selecting them

Wayne - I back Nicks judgement
You haven't been reading my posts then .....get that magnifying glass out

I'm not a fan of Hamill but have actually liked his last few games.
Yeah the season is completely cooked, there's no reason now not to try other players.

This comment on Fartbook shows what's wrong with the apricot slice brigade:

Frustrated by how poorly we play against some sides. Is it the players?
I feel that Nicks and the coaching panel get out coached then have no way of getting the game back.
As for the recruiting team we have some right but so many wrong. Should be the other way round.
The business side seems strong so no problem there. As for Roo he only wants what's best for the club and believe it is his last year in this position.
Just my opinion
Still a crow man and always will be!

They are giving us younger boomers (the ones that are nearky Gen X) a bad name.

Thanks very much Rory’s dad.

So you think Rory is a better footballer than Crouch this year?

This will be enlightening.

Really need St Kilda to win tonight so we can properly sit in the bottom 4 and not let the club give Nicks any 'outs'.

The more I hear Nicks now the more I hear the same tone and language Craig, Sando and Pyke used at the end of their tenures.... Desperate, unsure, negative, using lots of cliches, backing in a failed system, wanting to ' go to work'.....

The Sydney game could be VERY interesting.
Key words there, this has all the hallmarks of a season where a few key figures are moved on

Rowey has already said it. It'll be internal review, slight reshuffle, assistant gone (I'm betting Godden) and the rest will stay in place.

Roo will leave next year, but that's through term limits being reached.

Nah, Nicks will go this year, certain of it. Club just won't be more definitive in their words until the season is absolutely dead. Silvers hardly gave a glowing endorsement of anyone, just backed in their 'strategies' and overall 'team'. Easy to keep spinning the same narrative while the club is technically in a better position than Sydney recovered from last year to make finals.

This round last year Carlton was also 4 wins 8 losses 1 draw

Vent all you like ....it's really just emotional clap-trap without true analysis

Let's see who's right .....so far Nicks getting support from media analysis, who probably know more about the game

Interesting, this time last year, Longmuir & FREO were horrid .....analysts saying FREO were going nowhere, their gamestyle of chip chip in te backline, not in line with the way the game is played now

12 months later and it's FREO / Longmuir having the laugh

Are you by extension of your comments, saying Fagan can't coach .....nice rant, but that's all it is

So the analysts got it wrong with Freo. And the entire foundation of your argument is that the analysts are backing Nix. You're definitely a deep thinker.

No mate, offensive is being asked to keep paying ever rising memberships to watch a club that hasn't sniffed the bottom of the eight for near on a decade only for the officials to keep getting huffy every time there's the slightest bit of criticism.

And he cherry picks, earlier on the year he was banking on Nicks doing a Vossy, now it’s a Longmuir who actually had made finals before a down year.

Whilst ignoring the possibility Nicks could actually be in the Teague, Neeld and Richardson category, with all evidence suggesting he is.

Adelaide's 3rd longest serving coach Matthew Nicks needs 8 wins (or 7 and another tie) to overtake Robert Shaw's winning percentage by the end of the year.

Incidentally, that might be enough for finals, but probably not...
