Crouch has been the root cause of most of our issues this year .....he's slowed down our ball movement, and the Cornes assessment in the post I posted, whereby the game has moved on from possession accumulators who do know harm ....is absolutely spot on point

Nearly all Clubs have moved those player types out of their midfields .......the Rankine into the midfield should have been much earlier, if not for Crouch ......Crouch's selection is the biggest black mark on Nicks coaching this year

Smith over Nankervis and the persistence with Laird are worse. Pedlar on Stewart was a stupid idea, but the refusal to do anything after that failed was worse.

So what happened to our ball mvement against Richmond, did it speed up without Crouch there? Or is there another reason for it?
Most of our games this year we have started with slow ball movement, Crouch has started on the bench. But he’s the reason we’re playing shit this year…
Personally I would like neither Crouch or Laird in the side, we should have been blooding all our young midfielders last year and this season. However if Nicks wants one of them then it has to be Crouch. It’s not even close between the two.

This round last year Carlton was also 4 wins 8 losses 1 draw

Yep and we were 7-6 and flopped hard in the 2nd half of the season like we have have for several seasons. More chance of Rory Sloane making a comeback than the Crows doing what Carlton did last season, but that won't stop the club clutching at that straw until we lose next week.

Anyone anyone with a brain...hard to find... would say McHenry Murphy need to gooooooooo for Rankine probably Pedlar Burgess is better than he has shown but Nick Murray must be close. One positive is Butts playing nearer his best lately looking fit for once.

Give me Dawson or Rankine possessions anyday .....the game sped up in the 2nd and 4th Qtrs when Dawson was on the boil ....he was cold in the 1st & 2nd, and thus so were the Crows

I agree with you on the 2024 version of Laird .....it's hard though if you haven't replacements ....youngsters can't run two way ....even Soligo was gassing it, people don't realise how tough physically it is to be a good midfielder

He is the main man responsible for running the club day to day. WTF is this sh*t show.

Yes, Kelly is the 'Head of Football' but he reports to Silvers.

Silvers has been there for almost 5 years too... Time to go.

Yes quantity of possessions has always been overrated, quality is more important, it’s one of the reasons I don’t rate Laird, he’s always been average with his disposals. Crouch has been good this season though and generally moves the ball on quickly. The only times he doesn’t is if there’s no player running past for a handball after he’s marked or been given a free and he has no choice as the game plant is for all players to go back and chip it around.

Soligo has struggled the last few weeks, he could do with a rest. Even on halfback for a game. He would offer drive from there as well.

Rachele and Dowling should’ve been given a good portion in the middle. Hinge could’ve been given a shot as well. We have options and personnel if any do get tired. It’s not working with Laird there and hasn’t all season. That is on Nicks.

1. Injuries ....do not underestimate the flow on effect .....GEEL & GWS are losing games due to key players being out

2. List Management ....for not chasing a RUCK the last 3 years

3. The lack of aggressive trading by the Club ....we're a "nice, good citizen" Club .....example, negotiations around Thebarton ...nice

Fair points - but RE 2 and 3 - there is actual people responsible for those in roles at the club that need to be held accountable.

Its up to Silvers to do this.

At what point will you and others let go of 97/98 .....it actually is ridiculous to benchmark an era 27 years ago .....it's akin to believing Ted Whitten would be a successful Coach in today's era .....or John Cahill

Dennis Pagan & Clarkson have ably demonstrated at CARL and NORTH .....no matter your credentials as a Coach, if you don't have the cattle ....players cannot successfully adopt your gameplan

Its not the era, its the mentality i'm focused on and that Nicks does not demonstrate elite standards. He accepts mediocrity by his favoured players.

The problem many people like you have is you think the game plan is exclusively the domain of the coach and if the players can't play it then they don't have the cattle.

But here is a nugget for you. Do you think the best teams have a coach lead game plan or a player lead game plan or is the game plan mutually exclusive?

Correct answer is mutually exclusive. The best coaches design a game plan around their players strengths and weaknesses. Last year I'd say Nicks game plan was pretty good and we had this attacking approach to the games that suited our playing group. This year he has swung 180 degrees with the same playing group and decided to play high possession, counter attack football with a team defence mindset. This does not suit our team. History tells you that this game plan seldom works.

You know, we've blamed the cattle for 4 seasons. At some point you have to blame the farmer. Nicks is the farmer. Just in case you were wondering.

FREO are 107 clearances better than any other AFL Team ....Serong is the #1 clearance player in the comp, with 93 clearances ....but there's only 19 scores resulting from Calebs clearances ....and FREO are rated 10th in the league

My point is ....for all the ball Crouch gets, we don't score from them and he doesn't hurt you .....hence no-one will ever tag Crouch ...they want him to have the ball

Judge the Coach based on the list at his disposal & expectations

Far more scrutiny on Fagan with a team expected to make the Grand Final this year

I don't think I've ever seen a Coach sacked for team riddled with injuries .....and there's zero signs he's lost the players
