Exactly, what ******* data? 5 (2 against wce) wins from our last 15 games? Failure to win away from home? Scoring imploding? Turnovers? What data you referring to? I would just love for once the media to ask a tough follow up question.

To see his smug fake smile, makes me want to puke

FFS

The situation of Voss last year was analogous to Nicks last year

Jesus
You know when Janus is on the run, refuses to answer the most basic questions and it’s all deflection before he scurries away.

He was all for us to resign Nicks before a ball was bounced but at 0-3 he won’t say whether he would resign him. I wonder why that is?

Haha what’s the odds of a carbon copy of this article from 2014 will appear in the Advertiser this week to appeal to the deluded part of the fan base?

“THE knee-jerk reactions have come thick and fast as Crows fans seek to attribute blame for their team’s 0-3 start to the season.

The game plan is stuffed. Brenton Sanderson’s contract was extended too early...”

Nicks = s**t Brenton Sanderson

Hey - there is still hope.

Sando did end up winning the next 3 games after this article and finished 11-11 and we missed the finals and he was sacked with two years left on his contract after just missing the finals for two consecutive years.

The bad thing is its looking like we will be 0-5. We have only started 0-5 twice in our clubs history and both times the head coach responsible was the coach for the next season (2010 / 2020).

My only hope is that we were smart and gave Nicks an extension with this loophole in mind:

Thought process is that entering Nicks' final year - we give him a 2 year contract extension to quiet the noise and give the appearance of stability and support. We have 6 months from the extension to fire him and only have 6 month pay out of his contract.

So, fingers crossed, they thought - this loophole gives us another 6 months to decide whether Nicks is the guy whilst quieting the noise. If we rebound and beat Geelong and get the season on track all is good. If things go pear shaped we fire him after our last game on August 23 (within the 6 month period) and only pay out 6 months.

Do I think we are this smart? Probably not, but it at least provides us with a get out of jail free card with regards to Nicks.

My POV was pretty clear in the GB&U thread .....like everyone, I fumed over most aspects of the game, switching off at HT

However, it's 3 games .....IIRC we were as bad in the first two games of 2023

I would have thought the mark of a good Coach is how he navigates out of this horror show ......Michael Voss, in a similar situation last year, turned it around

So, I'm not making definitive statements on Nicks after 3 rounds, that you can't back away from .....you've cemented your position, brave or foolish ?
Hot take: He's also been head coach since 2020, not three rounds like you keep making it out to be.

so a body of work like a 29-57 win/loss record?
It’s a bogus argument he’s trying to make. He’s ignoring 5 from 15 which includes shit wins for starters.

But he won’t even say he’d resign him now when he would 3 weeks ago, obviously he is taking account Nicks shit coaching over the last 3 weeks, coaching which he’s been critical of. The problem is he went so hard on praising Nicks and justifying the early resigning that he can’t retreat without admitting he was wrong.

His reliance on the Voss example and ignoring all the other coaches who haven’t turned it around is just Wayne being Wayne.

Its the actual manner of the losses that's most damning on Nicks.

This stodgy, sideways, tentative, slow 'gameplan' is horrendous and virtually no genuine finals side would play this at all.

What the heck has he done over pre-season? His wishy washy cliche answers on 360 last night were uninspiring to say the least.

You keep banging on about Voss, Carlton started well, were 4-1-2 after Round 7, inside the top 8, had a dip in the middle and came back and made a prelim.

It's not the same thing at all.

And he’s saying he won’t make definitive statements, he’s been making them all last year and during the preseason that the early resigning of Nicks was the right call, now he won’t give an opinion and reckons it’s wrong to give a definitive opinion. It’s not a hard question I’m even asking, at 0-3 would you resign him or wait?

Especially compared to Longmire who was clear and professional. Gave actual answers rather than waffle

King is bang on. This is predominantly self inflicted.

Montagna is an idiot. Teams weren’t trying to stop us scoring last year? Gimme a break.

Problem is Nicks is such an arrogant all knowing campaigner that he will double down on this dumbass game plan to show everyone that he’s right and they’re wrong.

This made me laugh

Bickley didn’t address the flip side of that stat though, which is when both teams are under 100, the Crows invariably lose, and all three games so far have been exactly that.

What Montagna is saying is if you can keep the Crows under 100, even at the expense of your own scoring, you will probably win.

Unbelievable... I knew it was bad, but that footage is damning...

You can blame the players but they all looked so lost and uncertain out there, that is solely on Nicks.
It has to be a coaching instruction to go wide and long rather than link up with hands. These aren’t isolated incidences.

Bicks struggles to criticise the club. He has a good football brain but far to positive. There needs to be some balance.

There are a whole lot of reasons why we are playing like we are but I think Tex and to some extent Dawson hid alot of issues last year.

It's why I have would of moved Tex on a few years back. I get that makes no sense given his form last year but to me there was no point Nicksy building a game plan that involved him.

I think it only needs to come unstuck once or twice in a game for us to go into our shell and resort to panic bombing

We actually moved the ball okay a couple of times early on Friday then went away from it

That's where leaders are important. They keep doing the right thing, keep taking risks, stick to the game plan. The younger players follow suit.

Sadly our senior guys are the first to go into panic mode, fumble and hack kick blindly. Or - just as bad - take forever to move the ball on in a stop-play situation then take a short wide option. It then spreads to the rest of the team.
