Matthews Rates Richmond Over North For Buckley

Guys like Mathews do media for the money. Its not thier passion, they feel out of the game.
It would feel stale to him after coaching.
Real competitor.
Love to have him at Richmond. He would know how to deal with factions.

Not that Bucks needs to be told how to think, but when someone of Mathews calibre suggests the young Tiger list has a big chunk of development in it, then all prospective coaches would prick up their ears.
To me in the article it sounded like he would like to have first point of refusal for the role .Seemed willing to at least take a phone call despite saying he has no intention of coaching again.

I think the club needs to move pretty quickly now considering there's likely to be a couple more clubs looking for a coach. We have the pick of the crop. IMO nth don't really hold the cards. They are not a high profile club, although they've had a great winning culture, and are always going to be in financial strife as proven by another handout request recently.

My mate seen Mathews walking into punt rd 2 weeks a go that could have been for a media interview or a job interview who knows but he is the one the would fix our club imo would not cop the players crap.Would not be like all our other past coaches who just wanted to be the players best mates.We need a coach to harden the players not to be there best mate.

All you need to do is give the tigers an arse lick..in saying you rate their list and you are in the running....we are back to the future if we continue to opt for this type of stuff....IMO get the prospect that doesnt rate the list....i.e. he is being ****ing honest....FFS!!!!

if its bucks or jade thats great. if not. then i think its about time leigh, became lethal once again. done it b4 and he can do it again. we were a ruthless club once, n we need a ruthless coach just like tommy hafey. n lethal is that man. become lethal again leigh. wake up the sleeping giant in the AFL. he's no media person. he's a coach and he is the best. forget mick and sheeds. coz guess what leigh faced both of those two in the grand final against each other. n leigh beat them both back to back. 1990, 2001. 2002 and 2003

He was asked a simple question of which list he prefers between ours and Nths. On paper, ours stacks up better for sure. Yes we have a lot of dead wood but so does north. A midfield of cotchin, lids, tambling, tuck, foley is one which a team can be built around.
People who a bagging Leigh have got no clue he's record speaks for itself simple.He took over the Magpies and the Lions when they were a basket case and made those clubs strong as ever on the field and off it.

I am ver concerned that our board is going to make another failed appointment...the next failed appointment will be the death nell for this club...
Get a coach that commands no more than 350K, 400K tops and let him build his reputation and his next asking price....For once stop paying big bucks to caoches that need the cattle....Lethal cant build I can guarantee ya...

Buckley will bring more people in though. I highly doubt he would have a spot for Rawlings, which sucks. Buckley would already be getting together a team and saying to clubs "take my whole team or nothing"

Haha looks great, but I think with a lineup like that we would be paying 1:1 for the coaching staff and entire playing list!
I don't think Kevin Sheedy will become the Director of Football at Richmond. He has declared his hand at being an advisor for the 18th team in West Sydney!!

Leigh Matthews would be an excellent choice as Director of Football or Head Coach of Richmond.
However, he will only become involved at the Tigers if he has total control over the playing list; list management and changing the organisational culture to make all employees accountable to each other and heading in the one direction.
Leigh Matthews' ideal role at Richmond is a Director of Football position where he will head the FOotball Department and lead the Football Department-FOotball CLub in the one direction.
Since 1980, Richmond have been a club with heaps of disunity.
The Tigers need a Graeme RIchmond figure to lead the Tigers out of the doldrums of shooting each other in the foot when things go wrong. Leigh Matthews is the man.

Finally, Leigh Matthews would be an excellent mentor for Nathan Buckley. In today's AFL coaching environment, a head coach needs a mentor-advisor: Neil Balme is an excellent aide for Bomber Thompson whilst Neale Daniher is helping out John Worsfold. At Brisbane, Wayne Brittain is an excellent sounding board for Michael Voss.
