I
I seriously have a hard time understanding how we dont have a heap of cash for Lever and Gov.
Richmond have Rance, Cotchin, Reiwolt signed up on big money and yet can offer 1.2 million to Dusty.
Something just doesnt add up.
I think we can afford them, but we don't want to pay what they're asking. Their value to us is below their asking price. I tend to agree for Lever.

Personally, I think Govs flexibility makes him more valuable. In fact I think he could almost play a J McGovern role if need be.

So you'd pay big overs just to retain Lever??

I'm with the club on this, pay him what they think he's worth and not $1 more.

The club will only go backwards if it drafts talent, develops them to then let them go for some random average drafts picks.

And continue to lose talent.
If in three years time Melbourne have won a flag with Lever in the side and we are back to middle again, who you going to blame?
Are you serious?

Melbourne winning a flag won't be down Jake Lever.... a small part maybe.

And the other side of that coin if Adelaide win a flag without Lever and Melbourne are still in the middle after 3 years??

I will judge all this in its entirety after the trade window closes. If we lose Gov and Lever and dont add an A grade mid them we have ****ed it up. Otherwise, lets see how the chips fall before we make judgement.

There is no point having guys like Hampton, Mackay, Seedsman and Menzel on collectively $1m to $1.5m and not being able to keep Gov or Lever. But if we are adding an A grade mid to the mix then I dont expect us to be able to do this AND keep two of the highest paid non key position forward and backs in the AFL.

So Gov signs for 5 years, Lever goes for top 10 pick and quality youngster, Cameron goes for a top 20 pick, Denzel in and taught to run both ways, Gibbs to come home and mysterious gun mid added to the side.

Tea leaves read.
Dan Menzel running both ways, now you are taking the piss !!

Melbourne arnt the ones losing top talent to other teams, we are.
You didnt answer my question. Who would you blame?

Melbourne hasn't had any top end talent to lose. Their list was a shambles for 10 years. Add to that coaches who weren't up to it and a culture that was so far off the mark, they were cellar dwellars year after year for a reason. The AFL took an extraordinary measure to step in and fix the place. No comparisons should be made to Melbourne. Ever. People seem to forget just how bad they were. It's only really this year that they have finally started to show something. A bit soon to be drawing comparisons against them like they are some sort of super power.

On a side note, I noticed in the quiz today on the afl website that there are two clubs who have never "won" the wooden spoon. Us, and the little brother across the road. I thought that was interesting.

Melbourne as GWS and GC will have the problem we currently have.
Melbourne have shit for so long they are stacked with young talent.

Can't keep them all

The reason we are being raided is also because we have drafted very well.

2015 : Clayton Oliver Pick 4, Sam Weideman Pick 9.
2014 : Christian Petracca Pick 2, Angus Brayshaw Pick 3 [Compensation]
2013 : Christian Salem Pick 9
2012 : Jimmy Toumpas Pick 4

James Frawley I would have thought was top talent at the time, certainly more runs on the board than Lever, landed Melbourne Pick 3 Compensation in the 2014 draft. Comparable with us losing Daniel Talia I'd have thought.

Apart from toumpas who the clowns have taken that's serious talent. Good luck keeping them all.
