Corey McKernan was on Duffield’s show on Monday and mentioned then that Simpson caught up with Corey Jones, Glen Archer and Brent Harvey on the Friday night before the game

So what. This is why Simpson is blunt with the west

Btw, the chat with mckernan was very good

On the The Round So Far.

Discussing WC and Essendon.
Despite us having to travel on a short break, being the worst side in AFL history, not an ounce of praise from Cornes.
Just hammered Essendon.

Geelong versus Port.
"Considering their injuries, what a performance from Port. Treating this as a win".

Guy is an absolute cnut.

Not that one would expect any praise from him towards us. But he is an absolute piece of work. And he has shown above all else to be totally compromised when it comes to talking about Port. His attitude towards the whole concussion issue was absolutely appalling. If it was any other club and particularly some of the clubs he has a clear hatred of (aka Adelaide and West Coast) he would have been unrelenting in this attack and calling for all sorts of punishment/investigations etc.

He had an opportunity to prove he is above being biased and show impartiality and he completely failed. He isn’t worth listening to, just another simpleton and moron in a whole field of em.

That was a bizarre throw. If it was thrown up properly it would’ve given the Eagles a chance to get numbers around it and to kill the contest. It appears that the umpire in question wanted to throw it to the outside of congestion. The AFL should review the incident and the umpiring in the game because at least one umpire was making some very strange calls.

The umpiring across the league is ****ed because there’s no criticism driving accountability of decisions taken seriously. It’s just whatever umpires interpretation is instead of delivering the defined rules of the game.

Watching Long get molested and Allen get clearly blocked in that last contest would be fine if hardball was played across the league. But you watch a Carlton game where the umpires are actively looking to give Curnow frees if someone even touches his arm.

There’s got to be a happy medium where there’s some element close to constituency but there’s zero desire from the league to get there as long as it’s pushing the choices are pushing the desired outcomes.

Part of this problem is the league crack down on any criticism of the umps but in the same breath not doing any criticism of them themselves.
The AFL should be actively and publicly questioning the umpires to force the improvement.
Paying them better and making them a full-time gig would also improve the situation as well.

But like all things with headquarters they are self-interested and half-arsed.

100% agree, yet they have pretty clearly taken an incredibly serious stance to ensure the home ground advantage of free kicks at Optus stadium was completely eliminated and now goes in the opposite direction.

What kind of pay do you think they should be getting? Keeping in mind an Umpire getting regular games earns $160k+

Let’s look at this from a different angle - the guy’s footy role was as a negater (tagger), his entire outlook in the media is negative and his face has a permanent scowl. Pretty easy to conclude he doesn’t enjoy the view in the mirror each day.

Not that that makes it any easier to endure him.

Dean Margetts has actually made this point and I agree - why can't the AFL just admit when the umpires have gotten something wrong? They review all umpiring decisions anyway to internally assess umpire performance, there's nothing really stopping them publishing those results.

Would go a long way in terms of good will to simply put their hand up and be transparent with the clubs and the fans

I mean..... sure.... but there are plenty more reasons why WC lost that game
You only have to look at jack darling aimlessly wondering into that stoppage with no intent as the ball came out to the bloke he dragged towards the contest was the one who kicked it forward

I assumed it was plenty less than that, if that numbers true than ignore the pay bit and the rest still applies.

It's the reason umpires resist going full time. The regulars get $160k plus whatever their full time wage is. A lot of them are white collar professionals so probably get $100k-$200k for their job. All up they're earning $260-$360k.

It's harder for the league when you look at the fring umps. Add an extra $80k (from unp income) on to their fulltime wage and they're looking at $180-$280k. I can't see the league being willing the pay a fringe ump $200k and a full time one $400k.
