If I were the clubs, the rich ones in particular - I would collectively make a formal request that the AFL indemnify the clubs against any future claims in negligence or other CoA, where soft cap restrictions are a contributory factor.

If anything it will give the AFL's risk management team something to think about.

For example, what happens when an overworked coach suffers a nervous breakdown and sues the club? Or if an under resourced and exhausted medical department ends a career early?

At a minimum I reckon you could get the medical/s&c teams taken out of the soft cap.

Haselby laying the boot in. As I understand it you can't make up the medical advice to suit yourself. If they're going to be available before the end of the year they're available which is frustrating but the club can't do anything about that. Just another cursed event in our cursed year.

Hental health is real, please avoid exposure to morons in the media

I used to think it was just that as well, but the level of discontent seems to be too universal now for it to just be about funding for minnows anymore.

Perhaps they are just fearful it will open up the inevitable issue of relocation/mergers that should have been dealt with 30 years ago.

Plenty of crackpot rumours swirling around in the vacuum of course - mostly along the lines that soft cap is HQ's effort to "achieve" an all-big4 Melbourne finals series and generate record profits.
I heard a discussion about this on the radio (some ABC grandstand show with a couple of journos). They claimed the AFL had a philosophical issue with how much coaches were being paid and used COVID as a way to try and drive the cost down.

Club shuts players down for the season when they could have played the last 5-6 games...media response - "tHaTs TaNkInG!"

Club refused to shut players down and plans to bring them back for the last 5-6 games instead of taking another speculative rookie pick in MSD...media response - "WhAt ArE tHeY dOiNg, ThAtS pOoR lIsT mAnAgEmEnT"

Hase you flipping peanut, please stop talking...

I also don't care about the Harry+Meghan circus, but I suspect they bring most of that on themselves?
They never stop with the sensationalism, the race card etc, then they sue on top of everything else they do
to generate money. If they really wanted to escape all that razzamataz, they could just live a quiet life somewhere by staying out of all the social whirl, many other celebrities and stars do..

Our state daddy and political juggernaut will leave a branding issue behind - it was always called the McGowan Govnmnt, not Labor, so they'll have to rebrand. Meanwhile the Libs see a small opportunity to try and drive a wedge in there. While he was all about state security and profits and expanding public transport to match the expanding suburbs and more importantly the much needed expanding consumers, he did not so much to help the sagging hospitals and health care issues nor the frontline workers.
One nurse remarked " If McGowan is feeling tired and burnt out, he should try being an underpaid and overworked nurse in an overcrowded and underfunded hospital!?"

South park on point as usual

Apparently the mid season draft doesn’t generate juicy enough headlines, so we need a mid season trade period.

Because the number one concern is the generation of headlines. Not the integrity of the competition.

Harmes got a week for his ‘hit’ on Friday night. Consistency would suggest DeGoey one week minimum - but then it is AFL tribunal lottery on display again.

I reckon Greg Clark will be regretting saying that now , might not get invited for the coffee run on Monday morning 😂

Consistency?
Harmes got charged with medium impact.
DeGoey will be hit with severe.

He'll be lucky to get 3.
