If we're looking to pick up more new members from the western sydney region, the wanderers coming in has hurt any potential we had. Its not an AFL area, it's a football region and now a lot of the demographics we may want to look for future long term members are being drawn to the WSW. I can't see too many people willing to devote so much time into being members of two clubs back to back. Just a thought.

Doesn't GWS already average higher crowds and more members?... so much for being the "heartland" of football.

They are on at completely different times, sport lovers would want a summer and winter sport so it doesn't really hurt anything, maybe a hundred or so less memberships from some really poor family's who buy a wanderes membership then can't afford a GWS membership they were going to buy? But i think that is marginal to non existent.

There has always been a connection with soccer in western Sydney - and often at the highest level in various incarnations, whether that be Marconi in the old NSL or even the parramatta power more recently. The Wanderers were always a no-brainer and it is to soccer's shame it took so long to bring them in. They were always going to succeed. It is however a summer sport and therefore inconsequential to us or the NRL.

But if the A-League took a few years too long to get into western Sydney then the AFL took a few decades too long putting us way behind the eightball in getting going. However, getting going is what is happening and given exposure and results the membership will increase. We are already ahead of a few league teams and will only grow over time.

Oh, and for the, but we have Canberra people, so what? Collingwood have Canberra, Sydney, Perth and the Gold Coast as membership areas, so too does the Swans, the Lions, the Eagles and every other team. Richmond have Cairns for Christ sake. The Gold Coast can get their members from anywhere and so too can we. Not my problem if we're more successful at branching out than they are.

I support WSW and GWS. It is possible to go for both.

Of course it is, follow as many teams as you want (as stated i follow teams in all the footy codes) but to bag out our members and the trumpet WSW is kinda weird considering whats shown so far:

GWS - Last, 10k members, around or just above 10k avg
WSW - 3rd, 5k members (or so), just above 10k avg

We are level with the @GoldCoastFC in the #raceto10K 7,005 members a piece! Let's send Bluey to the beach in his budgie smugglers #standtall
It will be interesting to see how they verify (count) that 10000 members has actually been reached. Some clubs will wait a while before adding sold memberships to their official count that they make public. To truly verify who reached 10000 first, it would have to involve independent auditors, but I'm not if it is going to be taken that seriously, nor should it IMO. It's just a bit of fun to build interclub rivalry at the end of the day.

This. I was a Crows member when I lived in Adelaide, but when United were playing well I jumped onboard. When soccer moved to summer it no longer became a choice one had to make.

I think in many ways the wanderers could be good for the giants. Helping to create a sense of unity and identity for the Western Sydney region would bode well for any team that covers the entire region.

So we're close to passing 70% of 2012's total in mid-January 2013; it'd be interesting to see a breakdown of renewals vs new memberships. A strong membership drive in the NAB Cup could see us passing the 2012 total (10,241) before the season proper begins.

The total one year ago to the day was 4,092, and reached around 8,000 by round one. In the 4 weeks of the 2012 NAB Cup I'd estimate we added 2,500 members.

Do you know if there is a difference in the starting time of the membership sales this year compared to last year at all?

They were definitely on sale earlier this time around, the week leading up to the R23 home game (last week of August) rather than Oct/Nov.

Still a great result to be that far ahead on last years total at the moment. Good work Giants! :thumbsu:

Oh that's awesome! I cbf'ed going to the show (only been twice in 9 years down here) if it's going to cost $70 for the two of us, but free entry is nice - especially since it's probably going to be on the quiet days (I hope).
