I just wanted a new lanyard:sadv1:

I'm still using the 2020 one (lovely maroon one) All I got this year for gold membership was a sticker:thumbsu: and a pin:thumbsdown:

As I'm only a supporter member, I really understand not getting much and don't expect it, but I do like getting a sticker and lanyard. That would keep me quite happy....

Bring back the fridge magnet; that was always a hit in our household.

I also liked the fridge magnet.
However, these days from round 16 on you know who you are playing but nothing else.
Apart from holding up other stuff on your fridge it is no longer a good reference point for those last 9 games.
Then there is the disposal part which is not a very green option for the club.

Fridge magnets were great .
I still have my first season 2012 season magnet at work and it holds up the occasional paper on my filing cabinet .
Also my 2017 season one at work.
It's a pitance of rubbish compared to plastic water bottles and take away coffee cups that get used everyday.
Just a thought.
But I'd settle for a lanyard with my gold membership on it anyday though.
If I was being honest ,I think it's a bit slack from the club really.
And I think I'm with most ,they should ditch the pins .

I like the pins. They go on my hat.

Your the bloke.:D
LOL yeah I knew someone would like them.
I think I probably have most of my pins thrown away in a cupboard somewhere but I have no interest in them.
I would much prefer a card and a lanyard.

Pins are great. You can be all done up, and a pin in your lapel tells everyone where your heart is. Had some great conversations bought on by the pin. Look good all in a row on the scarf too.

I will put this in Membership 2024 thread.

Members should receive an email notice of the upcoming AGM.
The Financial report is attached.
I am off soon so have not had a chance to look at the report in more detail.
Not a good result compared to last year. Edit: See below.
Below the important part. We made a profit of just $663,056.
Looks like depreciation was the main culprit.
They may have reduced their debt too but will look later.
EDIT: Back home now. We reduced our AFL debt (trade payables) by $3.5 million so that's good amount in one year.
..............................................................

OPERATING AND FINANCIAL REVIEW The profit for the year was $3,204,680 (2022: $37,750,983). Included in this profit is grant and fundraising revenue of $2,571,624 (2022: $35,365,986). The operating profit before grant income was $633,056 (2022: $2,384,997). Net profit amounts have been calculated in accordance with Australian Accounting Standards (AASBs). The Company is exempt from payment of income tax under the provisions of section 50 - 45 of the Income Tax Assessment Act 1997

does this include paying back 3.5mill to the afl?

I am back home now and had a better look.
Yes, we paid back $3.5 million in Trade Payables to the AFL this year.
Lions have been carrying this $10 million owing to the AFL since it reached that high figure of $10 million in 2017.
So that is great they were able to do that.

My short take on reading the 2023 Financial report.
Just my opinion, as others may have a different slant on the financial report.

Total revenue is down $21 million but that includes grant money which clouds things somewhat.
Excluding the Grant money, individually all the clubs income departments experienced an increase over last year which is great.
All expenses obtaining this income also increased which is not unusual.
Total revenue for 2023 was $82.7 million ($103.7 million in 2022). The AFL distribution amount is included in revenue.
This year the AFL distribution was $27.4 million. That is an increase of $4.4 million on last year.

The good news is the club was able to reduce the AFL debt from $10 million (been this figure since 2017) to $6.5 million.
Our total borrowings of $20.8 million remain the same from last year.
We owe Westpac $8 million (fully drawn) and a lease liability of $12 million. These figures have been the same since 2020.

In 2020 our land and building assets were zero
Thanks to what has happened over the last few years that figure is now $65 million.
With assets comes depreciation of those assets. Depreciation for 2023 was $3.17 million more than in 2022.
This depreciation affects the clubs profit/loss in any year. But better to have a depreciating asset than no asset at all.

The end result is a profit $663,056 with AFL debt reduced by $3.5 million.
A good year by the club and we will need a few more to reduce our total debts.

(You could cheekily say the AFL gave us $4.4 million in extra distribution funds and we gave $3.5 million back to reduce our debt.:))

The 50% Total Fusion joint venture is making money which is great. Hopefully it continues doing so. Gyms can be risky business.

I was going to say exactly that - funny how close it lined up!

For anyone who can read financial docs better than me: would be interested to see what rent we pay for the Gabba and how that compares to other teams, because a couple of years ago it was being reported that we pay way higher rent than other teams (for worse facilities). The story kind of petered out with no resolution at the time...

For any existing members looking for the priority-1 September upgrade, check your emails. I received the offer in an email today.
$100/member (I think doubled from last year?).

Because we were already September members, I am pretty sure we were only charged $50 as part of our regular membership.
