Membership 2024

We go from Prime to Prime membership but with September Membership going up as well it is still $100 more per membership than last year.
I assume that is the extra $50 for September membership.
Did your normal Prime to the same prime go up $ 50 also.

I am unable to work mine out until they adjust mine back from adult to concession plus the loyalty discount.

I believe the membership went up somewhere around the $50 mark yes.
And Sept Mem $50 also.

We are all talking about price increases which is fair enough.
To get some money back posters should consider "Going Green" if they usually don't use any of the membership pack.
I have been green for quite a few years as there is nothing in the pack that is of interest or use to me.

Going green will get you a supercharged Lions $30 voucher. What that means is your $20 voucher becomes $30
So, just an extra $10.
Even though i have been green for quite a while i went through the process to make sure i will get the voucher.

The process very easy if you go via the clubs email on membership.

Some information on Membership
I rang the club today to get some details on behalf of someone else.
They are just considering moving seats (lower level) to upper-level sections 420-424 Deluxe, Premium+, Premium.
I wanted to know the row cut off between the 3 types of membership.
It took her a little while to find the information on just section 424
She thinks it will be uniform in those 5 sections but can't say for certain without going into each section separately.

Deluxe: AA - GG
Premium+: HH - QQ
Premium RR - back row

I moved seats about three years ago and after speaking to her got a more up to date process.
We talked about the change seating form. The direct link to that is via the clubs renewal email
As far as she knows you get to choose the seats available and they should then be yours unless you hear from the club due to an unknown issue. Your old seats are then forfeited.
The "change seats form" dates are between when the first payment comes out, most likely the 2/12/24 and the last day being 8/12/24.
Unfortunately, the members seats that don't renew won't become available till the day after, being the 9th December.
So, you won't have access to them in the date timeframe
That seems a bit strange but maybe they allow a bit of time for banking issues and members not changing things like expiry dates etc.
I forgot to ask when the new members requests will be processed.
At a guess it will be the 9/12/24 then open to the public once they are processed.

I have a mate who is looking at moving 3 over to 422 in the deluxe section.

He’s been on the phone all week with Membership.

You have to fill out the form you mentioned, but also have to prepay to price of the membership to be on the waiting list.

Requests will be processed after the membership renewal date, once the club knows who wants to move out of their current seats.

That's not how it was explained to me today. But she could have been wrong.
The fact that your mate has been on all week to membership indicates he was getting conflicting information.
My information today may fall into that category too.
But the row numbers i mentioned separating Deluxe, Premium+ & Premium will be correct.

Without knowing your mates conversations with membership i can't comment much
Do your 3 mates or say even 1 of them happen to be a 3 game or Flexi Member? See forms start page image below.
That would change the process for them if that's the case.

Today the membership ladies steps were
(1) Must wait until existing members automatic payment comes out 2/12/24 either monthly or upfront. I assume that's your prepay wording.
(2) Then you can fill in the form and choose your seats. I even queried this to clarify if you have to settle on what's available or do you get multiple selections of section and row choices and wait to see what's accepted.
Her reply was you just choose from the seats available.
She seemed confident in her reply but that does not make her correct

Without actually going through the form process it is hard to know what choice you will be given.
I guess the only way to find out is to go through the form process on the 3/12/24
I assume you will be able to cancel/not complete/escape the form if you change your mind to retain your existing seats because you don't like the process or think you may end up being worse off.

Processing everything after the renewal date does make more sense as more tickets will be available to choose from.
If that's still the case like when i changed 3 years ago you got to select 3 sections and mention say no further back than 10 rows.
Anyone on Lions BF that went through the process in 2024 may be able to recall the process?

Below the start page of the form but you can't fill in till 2/12/24. Also 3 game and Flexi member can't use this form.

Also, the paid today for the move, provided there are seats available.

Hmmmm I already completed and submitted this form. Why would it be available online if we're not meant to complete it yet? And yes I read the text there beforehand. Perhaps I'll just submit again in December 🤷

"Stick to the process grasshopper" 🤦

Well, that's interesting.
Or have you already paid like briztoons mates.
Can you tell me if you could choose just one lot of seating or did you get to select a few options
Can i assume they mention somewhere along the way that you have now forfeited your old seats.

I am not game to try and pull out before the end just to see how the process works this year as i don't want to change my seats

Nah I haven't paid yet. I opted to pay monthly and so my first payment is meant to come out in early December.

This is the first time I have gone for a reserved seat so this process is new to me. But it also means I don't have any "old seats" to forfeit. The form is just a series of free form text boxes. At the end I even got an email confirming how I submitted it.

I've seen these types of forms before. At the back end it will simply be a Google spreadsheet. Each person who submits a form will become a row in that spreadsheet. Each question you answer will become its own column in your row of the spreadsheet. That way, when the membership team gets around to allocating everyone their seats for 2025, they will have everyone's details and preferences in one big long spreadsheet. If you submit the form twice you will get 2 separate rows in the spreadsheet which will be very confusing for everyone if you've entered different details each time!

Hope this makes sense without being too techy.

For the record, here's how I submitted my form. I don't even know if I did it right but whatevs 🤷 I do know that they would have received it. Otherwise I would not have got this confirmation email.

Screenshot_20241106_213503_Gmail.jpg

If I recall correctly, the first two questions and the 4th one are multiple choice, where you pick one option. The rest of the questions are all free form text. As you can see I've asked for top tier seats behind the goals as is my general preference whenever I go to the footy 🙂

Thanks for that information.
I know you like to sit behind the goals but did not know you were not a reserved seat member.
This looks similar to 3 years ago when i last changed seats
I remember putting 3 sections down
The bottom question is where i indicated "no further back than 10 rows from the front".
When they allocated our seats, we got nowhere near the sections requested and further than 10 rows back from the front.
I ended up ringing them and got good seats in Section 424 row EE
That was 3 years ago, and membership has risen sharply since then.
So, it will be interesting to know the number of seats available on the 10.12.24 and how many requests can't be fulfilled.

Was thinking we couldn't change seats even if we wanted - trying to get 9 seats together world be a nightmare.

Yes, it would especially considering the recent years big membership increases.
Finals would also be a hassle.

I am still trying to get my head around all the membership changes this year. I sit in sec 201, still classified premium and I’m a September member. So nothing has changed other than the price.

Thinking if Deluxe price is only $100 more than my current premium seat. Then my current September premium membership brings it to equal with a deluxe upgrade. Then I’m probably better changing to a deluxe seat for the same benefits but slightly better seat. Is this correct?

If this is correct, what if the membership department scrap the deluxe category after a year and then would everyone with deluxe September Member benefits lose it?

My sister and 2 others have been in section 201 forever and are considering a move.
That move if seats are available is to either Deluxe Section 220-224 seating AA- GG
Or the same section numbers but in Premium+ in Row HH-QQ.
Unfortunately, if you can't be placed where you would like to go then you will have to take what's available as a staff member will be contacting members that requests can't be fulfilled.

I think your calculation on prices is not correct.
I only have new member prices to go on so below has no loyalty discount which should be uniform anyhow.

Section 201 Premium Adult $ 575 + $100 September member = $675 less loyalty discount
Deluxe is $780 (includes Priority 1) less loyalty so an extra $105 less loyalty discount

If you went to Premium+ it is $625 +$100 September member = $725 less loyalty
Thats only an extra $55 less loyalty

However, a Deluxe Concession is only an extra $54 less loyalty so that's pretty good under the 2 extra categories.
Concession Premium+ being an extra $39.

I doubt they scrap Deluxe after introducing it in 2025.
The club now make more money by introducing 2 more higher seating categories.
If the Gabba held a larger capacity i doubt there would be a need for this (2 higher priced categories) in 2025.
Supply and demand working unfortunately.

‘WTF?’: Lions fans outraged at ‘premiership tax’ price hikes

The Brisbane Lions have been accused of slugging loyal fans with a “premiership tax”, with member seat prices at the Gabba soaring by up to 55 per cent.

The Brisbane Lions have been accused of slugging loyal fans with a “premiership tax”, with member seat prices at the Gabba soaring by up to 55 per cent.
Upset members have taken to social media to vent their anger over the “reclassification” of their seats for 2025, following last month’s historic grand final triumph over the Sydney Swans.

One long-time member said while they were “absolutely ecstatic” at the Lions’ success this year, they were “not so ecstatic” that the family’s “premium” seats at the Gabba had been reclassified as “deluxe” and would now cost 39 per cent more.

“I love the seats I have but with a family it really makes me pause. Sadly, it all seems to be just about the money off field,” they posted on Reddit.

A three-decade Brisbane fan told The Sunday Mail he was shocked to receive a $1115.50 membership renewal notice for his two regular seats at the Gabba, up from $877 this year.

“That’s a whopping 27.2 per cent year on year increase,” he said.

“Headline inflation is 2.8 per cent, so the Lions expect me and many others to stump up almost 10-times inflation. It would seem to be a blatant rip-off in the glow of premiership success.”

The member said he contacted the Lions to ask “WTF?” and was told his prime seats had been reclassified as premium. He was told he could move to other prime seats elsewhere in the grandstand but they would still cost $475 each – 8.25 per cent more than this season.

Another member said his three-game membership had jumped from $240 to $375 while another labelled the increases as a “premiership tax”.

A Lions spokesman said the club’s membership model had been largely unchanged for the last several years on the assumption the club would be displaced from the Gabba for a rebuild ahead of the 2032 Olympics.

“However, following a review completed earlier this year, there has been a reclassification of some sections, benchmarked against other clubs and codes, resulting in some price movement,” he said,

“There are also several categories where pricing has stayed the same to ensure tickets remain affordable and accessible.

“Some of the packages which have increased in value, includes the high demand,

September Membership which gives Members first priority access to purchase grand final tickets.

“The club has a wide range of memberships suitable for any age and any budget so fans can customise their experience.

“We encourage Members to reach out to the club to find the best fit product based on their circumstances.”

Membership of the Lions has soared to more than 63,000, with 70,000-plus members expected next season as the club seeks to defend its first premiership in two decades.

The club now has more members than the likes of St Kilda and the Western Bulldogs.

Definitely sucks, but from what I've seen a lot of clubs have bumped theirs up after keeping them steady-ish the last couple of years. We're definitely on the high end of increases if your seats got reclassified though.

After the covid years i think all clubs were just trying to get people back to the games first.
So, without knowing all clubs price structures i think they all keep prices as low as possible until the crowds returned.
Inflation has hit during this time and mostly absorbed by the clubs.
That would be the main reason for the catch up on normal profit margins.
Supply and demand account for the 2 extra higher seating categories.
Can't blame the club that The Gabba capacity is now not enough.

The 100% increase in September Membership is the main culprit when looking at total % increases
That should be taken out of price % increases. If you go to the GF that is the cheapest cost compared to accommodation and airfares. Also pretty cheap compared to the Melbourne clubs.
A September Membership upgrade or Deluxe seating with SM now included in the price is really an insurance policy, or a donation depending on if your side makes the GF.

I think it will be the people sitting in the now Deluxe category that have no intention of going to the GF are hardest done by.
They either cop the increase and retain what the club feels is the best seating in the Gabba or move.
The elderly couple sitting next to us won't go to the GF as it is too much hassle so they may not be there next year.
On the other hand, they could be well off and it won't matter in the slightest.
