Got to remember that that stat is based on percentage per transition play, not volume of transition plays. I would speculate the team is absolutely limiting the number of end-to-end transition plays by controlling the ball when they’re in possession and forcing more stoppages in the forward half, I.e. fewer chances for the opposition to take it coast to coast.

Still need to work on the other stuff but there are signs of overall defensive improvement, let alone how we set up behind the ball.
You can tell the tackling overall has improved, but it's especially noticeable in the forwardline where there players seem to really try to lock it in now.

Totally in love with this bloke.

I'm here. Never opposed Scott. He's cleaned everyone's clocks.

Doesn't diminish the fact that Rutten was treated like a piece of s**t and Barham is a dog.
Whilst the means weren't great, the ends do seem to be justifying them

Was about to give this post a like until I read the bit about Barham being a dog.

Yeah, I miss Brasher. Was a really nice guy. Xavier too. Just all so nice and content with milking the club dry and constantly finishing 8th - 13th. Never any hard calls or great appointments, simultaneously wasting the players careers but gee whiz they were good blokes. Even extended Woosha and let him finish out his contract despite being a muppet - now that's what great blokes do!

Meanwhile Daddy Barham comes in and in one fell swoop, makes a decade worth of changes that needed to happen for the betterment, and he's a dog.

Pull the other one.

If you are a coach who just backs the system it’s like a game with laws that is conducive of said game/gameplan. Your set pieces can only move in the confines of your rock solid gameplan. Like how pieces of a chess set move in a limited way.

However if you are a coach that improvises on the run (like Brad putting Merritt forward) you change the game to a different type of game and increase the move set of your set pieces.

Something that's looked concerning since the West Coast game is opponents being able to get out the back.

Until that game it seemed to have been largely stopped.

Although tonight it almost looked deliberate, forcing Carlton to take their shots running 50m out, so maybe it's by design.

I always feel like we are giving up something and exposing ourselves to gain something. We definitely give our opponents some good looks sometimes.

It was Ike a premonition at half time when Brad said the games been tight but we believe it will open up so we better make sure we will be on the right side of it.

Okay, with hindsight this morning perhaps calling him a dog was a bit much.

Yes, he has made some positive changes.

Yes, the way he handled the coaching change over was unprofessional and yes, Rutten was treated like trash. "One fell swoop" is an exaggeration. Like a hack he hacked it through.

I think there is lots of truth in your sentiments
However after wada rubbish our club was focused on being too nice and compliant and lost ruthlessness and hard edge
barham will make hard calls which previous leaders were unable to do
seeing Scott and Mahoney in the rooms deep in discussion made me think they are well and truly on the same page to

I think Scott tried to nullify Curnow and McKay by playing an aggressive but tight defence which forced them to kick for goal from a long way out.

While Merrett's move forward was brilliant it has exposed something for us; the bright future of a Caldwell / Hobbs / Perkins / Martin / Durham midfield. The trust of the coach in these guys to do the job against Cripps / Walsh / Cerra will have done wonders. It also exposed our need for another player of Stringer's ilk quite soon.

I hope Rutten was watching. Scott's gamesmanship and experience is definitely something he lacks.

I'm not opposed to hard calls, but they can be made in ways that value a person's dignity and don't embarrass the organisation.

As for unity, a footy club is always a great place when you're winning.

Agree
we need to nail this years first round pick with a forward/ midfield type. ironically Humphrey or phillipou suits our needs far greater than tsatsas from a list perspective
