You cannot preach "hard work" then allow Weideman to meander about with no effort for 4 rounds, while Voss kills it in the 2s.
C'mon Brad, this was your undoing at North. Stay humble.

I feel like people are just assuming Voss' form from the first couple of games has been the same for the entire season.

More likely is Phillips coming in for Weideman which keeps a similar structure to the one they've been running with, given Voss is more of a medium and would require the structure to be changed to accomodate that.

Maybe the structure needs a change, but I'm not the coaching group to know their plans for that.

Probably true, I honestly don't care who it is at the moment that comes in.
I just want to see consistent effort.

It's been consistent.

Im not the closest VFL watcher. Ill stream it here and there, but i'm clearly missing something others see in Voss when it comes to being AFL ready
I don't like the idea of pondering what could be worse than Weid...then finding out.

oh, wasn't a challenge. i think its common amongst most to see Chris as a master coach.
Inherited a flag and took 11 years to win another with arguably the best run club this century.

He's a good coach in many ways, but Geelong being such a great club support that.
Brad has had 2x s**t shows in Norf and now us to deal with.
And a ridiculous geographical advantage that seems to let them take good players for unders over and over.

I see Geelong are likely to get Bailey Smith. It never ends. Good luck to em I guess but let's not discount it's a factor

Kills it in the 2s? You clearly haven’t been watching the 2s

Voss was killing it in the twos when Weideman was still playing badly a month ago, Scott missed the opportunity to pull the trigger with a kid in form at the right time.

Huh? He was in a bad slump a month ago. He's only come good again the last 2-3 games.

His efforts are 10x better than Weideman. Playing forward in our VFL team is harder than in the AFL.

not sure why the narrative of weideman being 'right for the structure' is persisting. the structure seems to be failing at keeping the ball in our half of the field and defending sides running it out of our F50.

They appear to have been trying to leave Wright as a full-time forward and not having to go in to the ruck.

This means playing a Ruckman + Wright + Someone else who can ruck.

Given Draper and Jones are both injured, and Bryan hadn't really demonstrated (partly through opportunity) he could hold down a ruck position it means playing Phillips + Wright + Weideman.

Bryan did well enough against Geelong to show he's not a liability in there, and Scott has ticked the box of giving Weideman a genuinely prolonged opportunity to show signs of life, so Phillips coming in to cover the ruck and be a tall physical presence up forward makes a lot of sense.

Going in to a game with a ruckman + Wright as the backup doesn't really work, we've tried it.

Despite hitting the scoreboard earlier in the season and somehow kicking 5 against the Cats Weideman has been dreadful from the get, his poor form in the first month of the season coincided with Voss kicking 5, 4, 1.4 and 2.

The time to pull the trigger was then.

Seems to be sunk cost fallacy on our part, there’s no real other explanation in my eyes.

Yeah, but you said Voss was killing it a month ago. He really wasn't

Yep no forward pressure. Rebound 50s so easy against us. Talls provide no pressure. When do people start questioning Stringer and his fitness levels? Or is he about to have a big pre season?

idk anything about voss’ performance i just look at his neck and my brain starts going “nooooo ooooooone’s slick as gaston” which is a bit of fun, and is that not what the rookie list is for?

It's a bit of a two-fold thing. Weideman allows Wright deep and Kyle free to roam. I think if Voss came in Wright would play further up the ground (how is his fitness?) and Voss comes in deep and/or Kyle plays taller.

The issue with Kyle playing taller and having a smaller forward line may not solve the front half pressure aspect, because if you can't give a good enough contest you won't be bringing the ball down where our small forwards can impact. The smalls we have in at the moment probably aren't as suited to a chase and tackle style. If you're smashed in the air you can also get torched on the ground.
