FYI this weeks selection is what I mean by it being more perceived pressure than actual selection pressure.

VFL side and players performing well and AFL side thrashed by 118 over past two weeks - no players rewarded for form.
That’s got nothing to do with selection pressure. It’s got to do with Scott being the type of coach that backs his guys in and make minimal changes. It’s wrong to not reward guys from vfl, they’ll end up leaving.

Performing well the the vfl is selection pressure, whether the coaches decided to reward it is another thing.

It kinda does though - if it doesn't have an impact on selection, then there is no pressure. The only selection pressure is the player's DOB, not their form

To be fair to selectors not too many have been beating the door down from the VFL. Scott says that he will bring players in when they are ready to stay in.

This is what the good teams do.

If they leave, they will just be playing VFL somewhere else.

A few are close and will get a chance when the time is right.

Yeah but that flys in the face of a few things good teams do aswell.

  • Matchups. Being able to bring in certain types for certain matchups
  • Swapping out players that are clearly out of form (liabilities) etc.
Good teams have flexibility in their reserves... plug n play options etc...

Which if we lose Saturday night becomes the last 4 rounds. I get chasing finals but a loss Saturday night ends that.

This club has a long history of backing players in which is fine, but at some point the chase for finals ends and you start throwing fringe blokes in to see what you have in the cupboard and that's what we've failed to do in the past. I hope it doesn't happen again.

Scotts picking his best 22, he should be

Next weeks a different matter if we lose this weekend

The only guys who could play that might leave that arent named are Massimo and Baldwin

Baldwin doesnt warrant selection as a forward which is where hes playing now

N.Cox
Mcgrath
Zerk

Durham
Perkins
N.Martin
Hobbs
Caldwell
Bryan

Menzie
Snelling
Guelfi

Are a 25 or younger

And even more so theyre more inexperienced than there age suggest

The point is we will try to win with our best 22.
As much as its mathematically a chance

3 losses in a row at this time of year and needing to win likely all 4 including one against the best side in the comp i think will lean towards playing a younger player or two

A Davey, Massimo, Tsatas or Wanganeen over Snelling, Hind, Heppell or Guelfi

Which match ups has he got wrong?

Teams have worked out our zone defense. We're really good at pushing back deep and filling the holes but we're so determined to push back we're leaving our direct opponents behind.

Meaning there is always a 20m short kick, which we then push up at and they pick us apart because the zone falls down. Next step for Scotty is to prevent this.
