It's funny how views vary across a supporter base. If Hibberd were to stay at Essendon I have him as clearly our 3rd best defender and with Hooker playing forward he'd effectively be our second best defender imo.

Hibberd for pick 26 will look an absolute bargain from a Melbourne perspective by mid season next year.

Not even close to our 3rd best defender, Hurley, Hooker and Baguley are well infront.
In 2015 he was probably our best half back flanker but with our returning players in the midfield I can see Goddard taking over that role who will be better than Hibberd due to having an opposite.

He's better than Baguley.

Baguley is an 8/10 defensively and 4/10 offensively
Hibberd is a 6/10 defensively and 9/10 offensively

IMO. He's a bloody good player.

I think he wants to stay buy would have to on unders.

That doesn't make sense - he could just play out his current contract if he wanted to stay.

If we offered a similar deal to Melbourne (which is 4 years at more than 600k) he would have stayed I believe.

Source on the pay?
I know someone inside at Melbourne. May not be exactly right, he was a bit tight lipped but he's certainly earning quite a bit of coin next year.

Dees offered 4 years versus Bombers 2.
Pay scale is understood to be very similar.

I highly doubt that.. that's just stupid if they would offer that
Needed an incentive to get him over.

4 years vs 2 is true but from what I can understand the pay scale is much higher.

Personally I'd have offered 3 years at around 500k but what's done is done.

I'm dubious about approximately 2.5 million over 4 years. However we could afford to heavily front load I'd say. Have quiet a young list and we'll get a bit in the cap from Dawes leaving. And possibly Dunn. Reckon he'd be closer to 500k a year max.

It's front loaded from my understanding, only around 400k in the last year.

Essendon must have a big salary cap if you would be willing to offer $500k a year to a player that some Essendon supporters on here are calling not a best 22 player

He's underrated. Was the 4th or 5th most important player of the 12 for me.

Some people are wrong. Best 22 at every club.

Edit: it's the old a player is leaving so they are crap now. Some people are saying carslile is crap just cause he left. Watch him next year, he will dominate.

He's a walk up start in any team's best 22. It's a loss that can be covered but he's a gun and Melbourne supporters will enjoy watching him... and at least one Essendon supporter!
