NORTH MELBOURNE
What they do well

David Noble has provided clear messaging for the way he wants them to play, which eliminates confusion for a young team.

He has reinforced that by training the basics and fundamentals.

They are trying to attack the corridor more, taking aggressive inside 45s to an unmanned player in space out of their counter attack region.

That eliminates the backward kick that hems them into the back 50.

Their defensive output has improved, evidenced when comparing the first four rounds to now.

What they must improve
Sixty one points — ranked 18th — isn’t going to win you many games. That must come from eliminating shallow entries.

They get it to about 45m, but if they don’t mark it, it gets slingshot out too easily.

When they get to the launch zone, it needs to go much deeper to either provide a marking opportunity or a chance for a stoppage.

Surprise packet
The emergence of Ben McKay as a reliable defender has been a huge positive, especially in the absence of Robbie Tarrant, Aidan Corr and Luke McDonald.

He has shouldered the responsibility of being the club’s No. 1 defender.

The next extension of his development will come when he starts getting off his opponent to support a vulnerable teammate.

Todd Goldstein has been a huge servant of the club, but he hasn’t quite been to his high standards in recent weeks.

I’m not sure if that is attitudinal or whether he just needs some help now.

So what better opportunity than for Tom Campbell to stand up and offer some real assistance to Goldy, while also allowing for both to offer some help to the Roos’ forwards.

This is fair; personally not pinning my hopes on big Tom getting to the next level, but who knows

Just a thought;
Clayton said that we were looking to draft two talls.
Charlie Hamm said he knew we were interested in drafting him.
So was Clayton throwing out a red herring?
Possibly, but there were probably a dozen players we had expressed 'interest' in and then it just came down to finalising the order of our list and crossing off names as other clubs picked them up.

No knock on Charlie Ham but very surprised we let Callow go. Not sure how many small midfielders we need. Edwards won't play much this year and Larkey could definitely do with some supporting marking power.

Do you think they care about winning matches at the moment?

Think we wanted to have quick HBF

you look at the guys there now Atley,Ziebell, hall are all 29 or older

Absolutely TZ - Good user off HBF is a definite need when looking at our 23&Under group. Bolded are our current group which are speculative IMO.

DEF - Mckay, Perez, P.Walker, Young, Hayden, Bonar, Bosenavulagi
MID - LDU, Simpkin, Powell, Phillips, Thomas, Stephenson, Lazzaro, Xerri, Mahoney, Scott
FWD - Comben, Zurhaar, Larkey, Taylor, Spicer, Edwards, Ford

Yep exactly and saves us from having to draft a hbf later this year

Our first pick will be a mid and from there we can target KPF or KPD

Did you leave one out by accident?

I did - However upon reflection, I don't know whether Atu or Ronny tick the "good user"box.
Bonar, maybe Perez, based on a very small sample size and assuming no long term effects from his injuries. (Tho Bonar is in that boat and still kicks straight and fast.) Both good users by foot, I wouldn't say that about the rest ... yet. Both will suit Noble's style of play if they become regular backs.

Anyway ... Perez (187), Bonar(188), Lmac (189) and even Hayden (186) are all 6' 1/186cm+. Atu and Charlie Ham are both 180/5'11. So we have two small defenders and Kayne Turner(179) who can also play the role. Out of a list of 42 three is a reasonable number of small defenders. As well as those taller four our medium defenders are PWalker, Young, Menedue, Atley, Ziebell and Hall. McGuiness and Corr are both taller (192/4) but supposedly able to play smaller as well.

Considering all that Charlie Ham isn't a bad choice. Agility is the sort of thing you'd need against the players like Tippa, Papley and the like, he is rated for agility.

Now its time for all other clubs to not deal with Collingwood so Daicos doesnt get to them..Let another club get him and watch their supporters go ballistic...lol

There is no possible way Nick Daicos goes anywhere but Collingwood this year. They don't have to deal with anyone to get him. They are committed to taking him. They just have to use their available picks in the first 3 rounds this year and next year until they have covered the points required. The only reason they will be dealing with other clubs this year is to try to limit the damage in next year's draft. If no-one deals with them, they will wear it next year.

Perhaps we were hoping one of the ruckman slid down to our 2nd pick, we were only anticipating 12-15 players being taken.

What about if the hawks go to him and offer 500k 4 year deal.
