I agree with what you are saying. As supporters we get far too concerned with what Port Power are doing and I am sure that they do the same with us. I am sure that officials within the clubs don't give it a second thought. I think that in this case it is slightly different though. There is an SA player in Rankine who most draft watches have in their top 3 players but is expected to slide to the first SA side to have a selection because he is a flight risk (not sure if this is will happen or not but lets just assume that it will). Who ever has the first pick out of us and Port Power effectively has pick 3 because they will be drafting the 3rd best player. Currently it is us with pick 8. Port Power may be paying overs for pick 5 but it is a pretty good deal if you consider it as pick 3. If Port Power did this, Adelaide's pick 8 becomes a lot less valuable so we should be paying attention a bit to what Port Power are doing.
Drafting hacks ?

absurd AFL penalties which almost ruined the club. What's the Crows excuse?

geez mate - there are only a handful of players left from the 02 / 03 drafts in the whole comp - Cant use that for an excuse

meanwhile since then the amount of extra priority picks you have got have mirrored how many draft picks the crows have lost through the Tippett bullshit

Where draft watchers rank someone and where we rank someone can be completely different though. And if we need to move up to 3-4 spots to get him, then you're not getting a bargain, or even breaking even, you're paying overs to get him. It's a bargain if you get the 3rd best player on your list at pick 8, it's may not be when you have to move Gov + pick 8 + maybe more. If we have to get pick 4 to get him, that's not a bargain, it's his draft range, same with Port trading everything they have for pick 5.

And our pick 8 doesn't become less valuable because again, you don't know where we're ranking our players. If we get the next best guy on our list from Rankine at 8, then that's hardly a disaster.

As promised here are the details of this so called deal.

Brisbane give pick 4 to freo for Neale
Port then swap pickes 9&10 to Freo for Pick 4

This was on last nights On The Couch. Given that there are now a few more pages of discussion this info maybe late news.
Just can’t see Port giving #9 & #10 for pick 4 just a 5 position slide in the Draft

That’s insane !!!!!!!!

Absolutely. Port is the direct competition for the SA players we want. Crows should definitely be trying to jockey into position to get in first.

Desperation to have a win against us in October/November.

Just like when they recruited Rocky after we had a look at him at the end of 2016 and bailed out when we saw his salary.

You’re going to get 2 very good players at 9 & 10 .... probably a SA boy too

If Port lose some good players like Polec, they simply have to play the numbers using 9 & 10

At least we're rebuilding after many years of poor management, myopic vision and absurd AFL penalties which almost ruined the club. What's the Crows excuse?
How many rooms is it now?

Must be a McMansion by now

Absolutely our draft board will be different to what anyone else's will be but we don't know what ours or any other clubs will look like so the best we can do is use thoughts of those who watch the draftees and and make there rankings publicly available either on Bigfooty or in the media. My assumptions are base off the thoughts of these people because that is the best I have to work with.

If we paid a fair price for pick 4 and got our third best player we absolutely got a bargain - not a huge bargain but a bargain none the less. There is no denying that.

That's the problem though, you're not going to pay a fair price to get pick 4, you're likely going to have to pay overs to get it. Is pick 9 and 10 fair just to get pick 5? Is trading Gov + 8 + 19 a fair price?

Hang in there probably another 5 years around the bottom of the ladder and then you can dream of September action.

Assuming of course you can actually hold onto the talent you acquired through bottoming out.

See in you in September in 2023.
