Argument sake, if the future 3rd is also pick 40...

IN: 13, 70 + McAdam
OUT: McGovern, 40, 40

Values McGovern at pick 43. Add McAdam, let's say at pick 40 again, values McGovern at 23.

The team that did the best out of this trade was the Sydney Swans... Got very good value for their pick.

I think your figures may be slightly “rubbery”..

So Adelaide get their first round pick but have to give up 2 3rd rounders in the process while Carlton has to give up an extra second round pick.

Comprimises all round. Not bad.

Picks from 40 onwards tend to be highly speculative junk anyway.. no loss there.

We got Harry Morrison at pick 74 as a part of the O'Meara trade. Morrison was nominated for Rising Star this year, and played nearly every game, and will play every game next year (barring injury).

So we can call them speculative, but I wouldnt say junk.

In fact, Hawthorn have a number of starting 22 who were pick 40+.

Pretty sure the Dogs won a flag with half the team having been pick 40+ or rookies or DFA.

Id say the deal is pretty reasonable. A good indicator for this is both sides seem happy.

Will Carlton play Mcgovern forward or back like his brother?
Carlton seem pretty good up forward with Curnow and Mckay.
Their backline is slim and Mcgovern would allow Jones/Plowman to be the 3rd tall

Cant see that, most crows supporters wanted a first they got a X factor player thrown in that may or may not work, but worth the risk

Only time will tell if we were the winner, if Gov fails to live up to expectation or if 13 turns into a dud or Mcadam fails

Bit like last year everyone though Port killed it, Watts, Motlop, Rockliff, Thomas, Mackenzie all failed to fire a shot and realistically probably lost the trade period

I think you'll find the average crows fan wanted <= pick 10. Average blues fan wanted to part with a late first or second rounder and McAdam.

Think he’d be wasted as a key defender and we should be persisting with Weitering and Marchbank in those roles.

Think he plays as a roaming CHF with Charlie, leaving Harry deep. One of them gets the third defender. .

And I was right! Makes more sense for us.

Carlton had to throw that 40 at you, Roo had said two seconds wouldn't do it, and carlton needed that first to get the deal done, it cost them two seconds and 40 to get hold of that first pick, Points weren't coming into for Adelaide they wanted a first pick and got it, Mcadam was probably worth the third Adelaide gave away being around pick 45

Clear win win. Carlton just don’t need more 18 year olds so giving up two seconds makes good sense. Great for the Crows to get 13 which they might be able to turn into 4 with the Saints. Carlton probably paid overs but so they should since Adelaide held the upper hand.
