Traded Mitch McGovern [traded to Carlton in a three-way trade involving Sydney and McAdam]

Adelaide need a $10 note.
Carlton have 2x $4 = $8
Sydney have $10 note

Adelaide give $2 + Carlton's $8 to Sydney and receive a $10 note.

Get it?

All apart from the exchange of players and the player you picked up, which was gifted to you by the AFL.

The trade ends up being Carlton paid pick 13 and and an SANFL player for pick 40. There's your missing $2.

The crows had to trade with Sydney to include pick 40.

The way you are suggesting means

Adelaide traded with Carlton to get Mcadam
Carlton traded with Sydney to get Pick 13
Then Carlton had to trade again with Adelaide to give them pick 13

It just makes no sense

I agree. That's why I am not suggesting it.

Okay, one more time.

Carlton didn't obtain pick 13. In fact we didn't have the currency for that pick.

However, Adelaide did. With their pick 40 and the two 2nd rounders (received for McGovern), they were able to get pick 13.

Carlton didn't trade pick 13, Sydney did.

One last time. Did the swans enter into a trade with the Crows directly? Was there any trade between Sydney and Adelaide?

Everybody won in this trade. Not sure why people are arguing over minor things like pick 40 and who swapped what to who. At the end of the day everybody got what they wanted.
Some people just need something to complain about. It's done people. Whether you like the deal or hate it, move on. There's other trade news to feast on now anyway.

Not true, adelaide have ****ed carlton up the arse without the use of lubrication on this one.

Extremely disappointed we wasted such resources on another tall rather then getting some senior midfielders to aid cripps.

Mate, we won two games. Senior mids aren't exactly banging on the door to play for Carlton.

Just be happy we got some good prospects nominating us.

This. If you want players to come to your club you need them to actually want to come to your club and it has to start somewhere. Sure he's not Shiel, but McGovern is a good prospect and brings the crowd into the game which is something that you all should want. Shiel might win you more games but McGovern will win you more hearts. He'll help add excitement to your games, and he's a mature player that's developed in a good system that can help with your structure and be a cool head under pressure that your other forwards can learn off. He has all the tangibles, and can even become that linking player into your forward line with his speed so he has a lot of versatility.

For a contracted player, Carlton paid around the mark of what he was worth and you should be happy. I'd much rather someone like McGovern then not only punting on the second rounders to become good players but having to wait for them to develop to contribute. You get a ready made mature player which is what you need.

Brilliantly summed up.
McGovern will add significantly to Carlton.
He was contracted so we had to pay overs.
We paid what he was worth and the swans helped out because it helped them.
The pissing contest about who reamed who is for BF morons.
The end result is the three clubs all got what they wanted/needed.
And there’s goodwill going forward..

I think when you're losing games it's easy for supporters to think you need more talent to win games, but the reality for Carlton is you have a list that is packed with high draft picks and has talent all over the park. What you need is to bring in mature players and leaders from winning cultures to teach the young guys and bring that culture with them to your young list, a lot of which haven't known a lot of success at AFL level. We saw it numerous times last year, Carlton would start really well but your players didn't know how to close out a game and win. McGovern has singlehandedly won the Crows a number of games through clutch plays on or after the siren, and players that can do that are damn hard to find. I think he'll be a great fit for your team, and when he jumps the pack and takes that first hanger I think your fanbase may begin to appreciate why your list management team valued him as they did.

Well that makes us even then! Gibbs anyone?......

Thing most of you don't realise, is McGovern is the most solid mark you will have on your list now. He will become one of your best players if he stays uninjured. Relax sweetcheeks, you haven't been reamed. You've got a gem.

Casboult is he just can't really do anything else unfortunately.

It isn't about what he can or can't become its about what we could have done to help the midfield that needs it more with the currency we used. No doubt Curnow, Mckay, McGovern on paper looks good but if the inside 50 count/quality of entry doesn't improve they will be lucky to see the ball.

Yeah but because Gov can play both sides of the ball he will be able to swing back if needed. He also has the speed and ability to play as a linking forward if given the chance to develop that, it's just we didn't need that at the crows, and if you play him in a role like that then your inside 50 count will definitely increase. He only played 12 games last year, played almost exclusively in the forward 50 yet still managed 32 inside 50's so imagine if you pushed him up the ground that could easily increase which would be huge for Curnow and McKay.

Youre right about casboult, he is almost the best mark in the AFL but cant kick to save himself

Carlton didn't get Sydney's pick 13.

Adelaide got Sydney's pick 13 with pick 40 & Carlton's two 2nd round picks (For McGovern)

Simple.

The net points value the Crows got for McGovern was pick 35 and McAdam (unquantifiable). Packaging this together with their pick 40 (Swans) and around pick 45-50 for next years third (Carlton), equals pick 13 value on the points index. Carlton paid more than that, but it was the Swans who pocketed the difference.

If someone told me at the start of the trade period that we’d get McGovern for one second rounder, a state player pick and downgrading another second to next year’s third round, I’d have it grabbed with both hands. And I’m sure Crows fans would’ve grabbed pick 13 and McAdam for Gov & two thirds.

Where is everyone that was demanding

"Pick 1 or he can stay next year for all i care *insert SOS pay overs pic"

Don't be shy guys.
Yeh, the pick 1 for pick 7 and McGovern was the funniest of the lot. As if that was ever going to happen. Might have been interesting if Dylan picked you guys though.

Yes it was a three way trade with Adelaide, Sydney and Carlton. What are u even arguing?

Desperately trying to claim that Carlton paid a first like (most likely) him and his mates stomped their feet about pre-trade and that he was right all along, also that Adelaide won the trade, haha Carlton etc.

Elsewhere, people with a decent sense of fairness and reality accept that it was pretty much a decent and win-win-win trade. I'm pleasantly surprised, but it was fair trade IMO taking everything into consideration.

Meh, trades done. Gov has some freak skills and will no doubt be worth the price he cost. Sydney increased their points value by 600.
Crows got a reasonable SANFL talent that could turn out really good, and a draft pick to take a punt on a kid with.
