No, actually we're all quite disappointed to have wasted a first round draft pick. That being said, I'm pretty happy overall with our first round drafting since 2004. One bad egg out of eight picks:

Roughead - Yes
Franklin - Yes
Lewis - Yes
Ellis - Unproven
Dowler - No
Thorp :( - No
Rioli - Yes
Schoenmakers - Unproven

50/50 at this stage.

They are both still on afl lists last time i checked. Its ok no need to get upset. We all have our Bradley or JON.

Agree 100% - every club has them.

Clearly Thorp has not been delisted because of injuries. Aparently he trained this/last week and he had a year to go on his contract. You dont delist players with a year to go unless something else has happened. We will probably never know what exactly.

Good luck to Gumbleton by the way - hopefully he gets out there. No one wants to see young players cut down by injury. My point was just to highlight that when you draft these 17yo kids, you cannot be sure what you are going to get, sometimes theirs bodies aren't up for it, sometimes they dont have the right atitude. Who knows what Thorp's problem is?

there is more then the club is saying on this one. he had returned to trainign on monday fit and firing, and on wednesday is delisted due to a "misdemenor"

must have been fairly serious

How's David Myers going for you? The curse of the number 6 draft pick strikes again:

2000 Dylan Smith (Kangaroos)
2001 Ashley Sampi (WCE)
2002 Steve Salopek (Port)
2003 Kepler Bradley (Ess)
2004 Tom Williams (Bull)
2005 Beau Dowler (Hawks)
2006 Mitch Thorp (Hawks)
2007 David Myers (Ess)
2008 Chris Yarran (Carl)

Steve Salopek is really the only guy who has proven himself from that list.

I believe that was about the time Sheedy was given the arse from recruiting duties. Give Myers 2 more years, surely.

Something has obviously soured the Hawks given he has been delisted with a year remaining on his contract. It is likely due to a series of attitude related incidents. He was spotted at training earlier in the week so i doubt the merit in the reasoning for his dismissal. Thorp has played two games in three seasons but remember, he's only 20 and i'm sure he has some future ahead of him. It's hard to gauge whether he will be a great player but i hope he gets picked up by someone so i can get more of a glimpse of the player he is.

As much as i'm sad to loose him, he was let go for a reason. Hawthorn will prosper without him.

Ellis was one the Hawks' best during our premiership year and amongst our top 5 in the grand final. Dowler showed plenty this year, particularly in his natural forward position. Shoenmakers made a great debut for a first year tall. I'm confident of all of them making it.

Exactly.

There are plenty of clubs out there less discerning than ours who will aren't readily phased by players with 'attitude issues'. Just look at Fev.

But if ditching Thorp ensures team harmony at our club it's worth the price. Not that we have confirmation at this point that's the reason he was delisted, but it does seem the most likely cause. Surely at only 20 his body couldn't be a lost cause.

Without a doubt his best game was in the GF. Arguably the best on. During the year, he was without a doubt one of the passengers.

Yeah, only Hurley and Pears showed more than both Dowler and Shoenmakers.

If your club ever manages to recruit a player the calibre of Lance Franklin you'll be over the moon, and you know it.

Your attempts to hide your jealousy are rather futile.

Wait til he kicks above 100 twice before you compare him to Lloyd. Franklin is a flash in the pan. His '09 wasn't even at Lloyd's average.

Why would I be jealous of a club that plays home games interstate?

There seems to be an unrequited obssession from Hawthorn supporters toward Essendon, I think it's a little club syndrome, similar I suppose to the little man syndrome Clarkson has.

No he isn't..

Hey, Imma let you finish.. David Myers will break out next year as an inside midfielder with a massive bewt.

Also, Myers isn't struggling with injury, he's just trying to learn a new position.

I cant remember Lloyd ever kicking 100 goals in a season
