or the next gary ablett snr............which also gave geelong jnr

Yeah, well you see, the coach was a copper and wouldn't tolerate somebody turning up to training in a car that said player couldn't prove personal ownership of.....

To cut a long story short, the Hawks won 5 GF's during said player's career after he was asked to leave the club.

How many GF's did said player win during his career whilst at his second club?

You do the maths.

How must Pelchen be feeling right about now?

One of his reasons for selecting Thorp at #6 was that "Selwoods body would not hold up to the rigours of AFL".

ouch ..
You forgot to add the part where Hawthorn were not given the facts in regards to Selwoods injury. But it's pointless, we wouldn't have taken him anyway, we wanted KPP at that pick and we took one.

Lol @ Hawthorn who missed the finals in '09. Apparently the best forward line in the league and they still couldn't make the finals.

Overrated much???
You're just pissed that Franklin and Roughead missed round 22. If they hadn't you wouldn't be known as the most mediocre team to ever make a final series.

Wait til he kicks above 100 twice before you compare him to Lloyd. Franklin is a flash in the pan. His '09 wasn't even at Lloyd's average.

Why would I be jealous of a club that plays home games interstate?

There seems to be an unrequited obssession from Hawthorn supporters toward Essendon, I think it's a little club syndrome, similar I suppose to the little man syndrome Clarkson has.

You would love to have Buddy deny it & your kidding ya self?

No, actually we're all quite disappointed to have wasted a first round draft pick. That being said, I'm pretty happy overall with our first round drafting since 2004. One bad egg out of eight picks:

Roughead
Franklin
Lewis
Ellis
Dowler
Thorp :(
Rioli
Schoenmakers

Dowler actually makes it 2 bad eggs, who is schoenmakers?

becomes the best player to play the game & his son will probably match what daddy done and more !!

i think they turned out ok..........you cant tell me that you dont wish he wasnt asked to leave & im sure hawks would of still won the 5 flags

It's almost impossible to read a thread without Hawthorn and Essendon supporters trying to roll each other. Keep it in the bay 13 area. It's an eye sore to read.

How's David Myers going for you? The curse of the number 6 draft pick strikes again:

2000 Dylan Smith (Kangaroos)
2001 Ashley Sampi (WCE)
2002 Steve Salopek (Port)
2003 Kepler Bradley (Ess)
2004 Tom Williams (Bull)
2005 Beau Dowler (Hawks)
2006 Mitch Thorp (Hawks)
2007 David Myers (Ess)
2008 Chris Yarran (Carl)

Steve Salopek is really the only guy who has proven himself from that list.

Hawthorn skewed this list by selecting Dowler ahead of Ryder, even though the Hawks rated Ryder higher.

i haven,t read any posts on this thread, but i am really dissapointed we let thorp go.if another club picks him up and he gets his body right, they have got themselves a future star. this guy has more talent than roughead in my opinion and roughhead is one of my favourites.oh well, hope he gets picked up,as i would still enjoy watching him play.loved the few things he did on debut, just oozed confidence and ability.

A pick 6, plus still has one more year on a contract. Ouch is not the word I need. We have royally screwed this up.

Allegedly he was offered during trade week.

Allegedly he is a jerk. Surely if that was the case you think we would have picked it up before we drafted him.

Just a flog or particular incidents?
Seems he just didn't get on with the other players and in particular the coach.
One of his reasons for selecting Thorp at #6 was that "Selwoods body would not hold up to the rigours of AFL".
His body is fine after taking the last half of the season off to get over shoulder and foot injuries. He did the first few sessions of the pre-season and looked fit and strong.

It's funny, everyone throws around 'culture' around here, but when a club makes a tough decision for what appears to be the culture of the club they are criticised. Even if he gets picked up by another club and goes well, which I certainly hope he does, that won't change the reasons he was asked to leave Hawthorn.

the guy who pissed of captain velvet so much that velvet decided to run into the nearest player

Oh? Is he the one who purposely ran into Lloyd after the 'incident', giving away a stupid free-kick which resulted in the goal that pretty much gave us all the momentum?

I like him in that case.

Something has obviously happened in the last couple of weeks because I am sure they could have got something for Thorp in trade week.

I reckon there was an attempt to send him to Port in the Burgoyne deal. I'm sure it didn't help that Thorp openly stated he didn't want to leave Melbourne during the whole drafting process. According to some reports, he certainly didn't impress Williams during Draft Camp interviews.

Only my opinion, but it seems the kid might have a few tickets on himself.
