Moira Deeming v John Pesutto

Labor might have got themselves in a pickle with debt - but at least we can see what they have spent the money on.

The federal Liberals spent three times as much and I have no idea what they spent it on.

Other than Kennett, I cannot name one single thing a Victorian state Liberal government has ever done - other than sign a Billion dollar contract in caretaker mode.

flogging state assets is no great accomplishment.

and it was “stockers” who did all the grunt work. kennett wasn’t much more than the frontman. one of the most overrated pollies in recent history.

I wonder if there will come a point that they'll start caring about Victorians and stop fighting each other.

The Victorian Government is on the ropes for the first time in a decade, the Libs finally have a fairly reasonable, centrist leader that the electorate appears to currently find electable... and these pinheads are going to tear him down exactly because he's outwardly a centrist, electable leader, and not a fringe-dwelling weirdo.
IMO he will be a fence sitter, hedge his bet each ways if and when he is Premier. Hasn't got a definitive position on alot of issues but he hasn't been scrutinized enough yet for people to see the real Pesutto. He's not a nasty man by all means in fact from all reports from both sides of politics he's a decent human being ( Unless of course your Moira Deeming). This is where he needs to stand up for what he believes in and denounce any opposition that isn't economy related for the good of the party. If it's culture war nonsense say it and dismiss it, does he have the convictions or is he too nice and timid.

I mean, he dealt with this protest so harshly three participants sued him. I think he has stood up for what he believes in and for the good of the party.

hes in this mess because

  • of his fear of dan andrews ripping him a new one over the protest
  • of his fear of conservative religious whackadoodles ripping him a new one if he backed down having taken the action

strength of character? ..... hardly

I think his emphasis during his testimony on "what would Dan Andrews do with this" was a mistake, but the political fallout from the protest was and should have been a consideration in how to deal with Mrs Deeming moving forward.

Nothing like a clear and unambiguous result that let's them move forward while demonstrating strong support for their current leader.

They'd be pretty thankful Dan Andrews is not around anymore - he would be having a picnic with this.

She won again today.
indeed

the icing on the cake was pesutto casting his vote to unlock the deadlock ('vote the motion down' in his words) ...... and the cherry on top of that icing was him later saying he didnt have to vote as their constitution had already determined she lost

which begs the question - why pi$$ off half the room by using a vote the party constitution deemed unnecessary?

this is a farce

She's still attacking the leader more than any ALP MP (MLC,MLA) would ever be allowed.

I don't know why people like Deeming join the Libs if they don't share the values (I know why, it's to take over the party and change those views), but they shouldn't get upset when they get turfed out.

What??? She was voted in as a Liberal and should be in the party.
Labor are on the ropes, now watch the forlorn hope State Libs vote in a new leader (before the next election).
