Moira Deeming v John Pesutto

The only way John Pesutto can survive as Liberal leader on Friday is that if Peter Dutton intervenes to resolve the issue by ordering the rebel Liberal MPs to get behind Pesutto or suffer the consequences of watching weak Labor governments both in Victoria and at federal levels retain power.

Would be ironic considering what he did to Turnbull a few years ago.

Question from someone living in another state.

What's actually wrong with the current leadership in Victoria?

Where shall we start?

The $200 trillion dollar debt and constantly worsening position?

Or was it $200 billion? Or $150 billion? Is anyone even counting anymore? Do they even care? Just pay the $20 million a day of interest and get on with it. That seems to be the approach.

Should we talk about the constant stream of incompetence over the last few years? Throwing away $380 million on the Commonwealth Games?

Or the Suburban rail loop- a $200 billion, multi decade project that they still don't have a business case for, SIX YEARS after announcing it?! Yes, six years later and no business case.

Or Hotel Quarantine, where security firms were chosen because of "diversity, equity and inclusion" and guards were trained on "diversity, equity and inclusion" before infection control, which contributed to the state being shut down for 4 months?

What about dear leader Dan, who tripled the size of his personal department. And during covid - that once a century pandemic- he was so busy rehearsing carefully scripted press conferences that he didn't even know the answers to very basic questions about government management of the pandemic. Because everything was being delegated to faceless bureaucrats. Several of whose faces became known. And they got sacked.

But dear leader didn't get sacked. Even though he had no idea what was going on during this once a century event.

And now they want to make a statue of him!

If you were a writer for a satire show, like Utopia or something, you would struggle to parody Victoria because the actual reality is already unimaginably ridiculous.

you have a popular opp leader on track to win the next poll, and the unelected extreme-right f**ckwittery want to blow the joint up rather than have a centre-right leader. if you can’t govern yourselves, you can’t govern the country state. a former leader of yours popularised that.
I agree… for once

It's a mistake to think that Liberal leading the polls has anything to do with anybody having the slightest interest in Pesutto.

It's solely due to people finally pulling their heads out of the sand, and realising we can't have another 4 years of Labor.

Infighting and factional wars are normal for a major party.

After 30 years almost entirely in opposition, it's probably not just normal, but totally natural

Winning holds people together- just like sport. Liberal would find a way to make it work.

At very least, they deserve a try.

I find it hard to believe anybody could do worse than Labor's efforts of the last few years.

There is also a perception of how people think you'll govern. Federal Labor had the facade of 'the grown ups are now in charge'. State Vic Libs are an absolute rabble and I wouldn't trust them to run a lemonade stand.

I know very little nothing about party politics, let alone the politics of the Victorian Parliamentary Liberal Party.

But I imagine that a Queensland Federal Liberal MP, no matter what their position, especially one as polarising as Peter Dutton who has never won a bloody thing as Federal Opposition leader yet, coming down to tell Victorian State Liberal MPs what to do would be about as popular as a pork chop at a Barr Mitzvah.

The reason why Peter Dutton would want to intervene in the affair of the Victorian Liberals is because he knows just how important Victoria is to regaining government in the next federal election.

There's nothing wrong. It's still Australia's most livable city. Up until the global pandemic, every budget they ran was cash flow positive. It just media noise attempting to influence politics as usual.
Shows how out of touch whoever decides the most livable city is as Melourne is a dirty over populated piece of crap probably only more livable than Sydney out of our capitals and will fall below them soon the way things are going.

There is a reason more and more long term residents are heading to Geelong and Ballarat.

Yep - I get why the Federal leader of a party heading to a Federal election would WANT to see state leaders follow his instructions to suit his political needs.

But from what I've seen of state and federal politics over the years, my view is that state politicians couldn't give a toss about placating Federal politicians especially when they're in the middle of a bitter factional battle for their individual political futures. And that applies to ALL political parties.

The most bitter enemies of politicians are often not politicians from opposing parties but factional rivals from within their own party.

Last time I saw statistics Victoria’s population was still growing the most. But it could be those drug infested cesspits as you suggest

lots of foreigners are arriving because Melbourne is still more attractive than many places overseas (please note they are not at fault for Melbourne being a cesspit most of the scum are locals and the problem is lack of infrastructure being delivered before population arrives)

Merry Christmas. Take some time to reflect on advantages

If Metro Tunnel and other projects pay back their investments in spades it'll work out.
It would help if they could produce business cases for $200 billion projects 6 years after announcing them, without independent experts trashing them.

Especially projects conveniently announced on the eve of elections and conveniently located in marginal electorates that have been Labor ever since....

don’t let the door hit you on your way out.

Had Channel 7 news on after the cricket. They're talking about whether parliamentarians would be able to vote remotely given the holidays "a move that comes after Pesutto's earlier move to shift the goalposts was met with backlash..."

And left it at that. WTF?! What kind of news presenting is that? You can't say that without explaining it, otherwise it's just an unjustified kick.
