Would not surprise me at all if the AFL give it band 1. Despite the fact that they say amount of contract and age are big factors in the compo, the AFL also have their own say on it. It isn't as simple as 1 + 1 = 2.

Nobes made it clear on the Roar Deal today that he had absolutely no intention of paying Joe more than we wanted to just to boost the compensation. He would have rather risked Essendon matching.

Putting 2 and 2 together it seems we are getting Joe for free at the contract we always intended to offer.

Reckon our trade period will be done and dusted nice and early in terms of players. Photos of Daniher and Cockatoo in Lions guernseys by next Wednesday.

I wonder how they'll go about giving Essendon Band 1 but avoiding giving the Crows Band 1 and thus picks 1 and 2 when Crouch if I am not mistaken is reportedly being offered more money? Will take some real clever PR from them to explain. Or maybe they are happy to give the Crows Band 1... although I get the feeling AFL house don't want to push back North, Sydney and Hawthorn's early picks.

It will be their own fault. Just tell everyone how much money and how many years it takes to get various bands and then there is no ambiguity.

The AFL wants ambiguity. If the rules are clear, clubs can manipulate the system to get the outcome they desire.

The AFL doesn't want clubs conspiring & manipulating the system to get their preferred outcome. That's the AFL's job.
