Round 4 recap.png

Demons 70 - 111 Wonders

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 4 v Wonders
Conditions for this match - WARM

Unfortunately the enjoyment of the match thread against the Wonders was soured on Sunday by our third loss in a row. We only kicked a total of 10 goals, 4 less than our previous low for the season. As a result, our DT scores were also the lowest for the season.

If I lead the stats it's obvious others have had off weeks. Tarkyn_24 bounced back after a down week in Round 3 though and Bluelegs had his best game of the season as did jmoo wan.

cooney found less of the ball than the week before but kicked 3 goals and PMBangers goal kicking form continued in the pocket. He now has 10 goals for the season. Great effort to score so well considering the team has only won one game so far. If the Demons can get the ball forward more often he could be a chance at All-SFA, especially after his posting efforts on the weekend.

Demons Posting - Round 4 v Wonders

What a week! One of the highlights from Round 3 was the fact that 11 posters contributed over 20 posts with more than half of those over 40. In Round 4 we had 10 posters contribute over 100 posts. And 18 reaching double figures.

Gralin almost doubled his previous effort with 509 posts and Tarkyn_24 posted 346 times more than I'd hoped he would. Scythe94 wasn't far off 200 in his 4th match for the club.
moginie previously had 46 posts for the season but had exactly 100 more than that against the Wonders, just ahead of manangatang and Headless. It was also great to see sante and PMBangers crack the ton. Yakker still hasn't found his qooty bag, but continued his strong season with another 62 posts.
I have no idea how many times Wosh actually posted but I do know she maintained her 100+ average.

I have now taken an active part in the second and third biggest match threads in SFA history and they were both great fun despite what some others who were not involved have said about them. The biggest ever thread was a disgracet though. Worst match thread in history. Should be permanently removed from the site.

In Season 36, we were fortunate to have Gralin join our ranks as a rookie. Gralin completely took the competition by storm, winning the “Rate the Opposition” award, finishing top 10 in the beez Trophy, and averaging more than 200 posts per game thread.

It was an unbelievable debut season, and we feel lucky to now have Gralin as part of our leadership group.

Congratulations, Gralin, on winning the Season 36 Deaneus! Award for best rookie of the season.

Dragons 95 - 91 Demons

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 5 v Dragons FFC
Conditions for this match - RAINY

Rainy conditions saw the Demons DT scores drop considerably. We were almost 400 points below our season high of 1151 and more then 200 points below our previous low.

Gralin and Yakker were among the best again while my score was boosted by three goals, the first time I've impacted the scoreboard this season.
Marlowe kicked three goals in his return and PMBangers and cooney continued their goal kicking form with two each.
Headless and Van_Dyke both found plenty of the ball on the last line of defence and jmoo wan provided plenty of rebound from Centre Half Back.

Demons Posting - Round 5 v Dragons FFC

Round 5 saw less than half the number of posts than the Round 4 match against the Wonders but it was still a fairly big week, with the Demons chalking up over 1000 posts. That number is second only to the Wonders match.
We also had 23 active posters in the match thread, our highest number for the season. This pushed the average number of posters per week back up to 22.

Gralin and Tarkyn_24 led the way again, while I achieved back to back 100s, possibly for the first time ever. Scythe94 also notched up back to back 100s. PMBangers was great again, and is now averaging just under 50 posts for the season.

17 Demons reached double figures and a couple more were very close. Has any other team ever had this much depth in activity?

It will be interesting to see how we go against the Roys in Round 7 after the bye. At this point in time there are less than 400 posts in the thread but 65% of those posts are from Demons players and we've had 21 posting, so it's probably more a lack of activity from the Roys that's keeping the numbers down as we have less to repond to.

Roys 73 - 119 Demons

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 7 v Roys
Conditions for this match - RAINY

Despite playing in rainy conditions again, the Demons DT stats against the Roys were well up on Round 5.

Our midfield dominated with sante returning to the form he was in for the first two rounds on one wing and Gralin also getting plenty of the ball on the other. Hate fed the ball well to Yakker and Tarkyn_24, who was taking potshots at the goals from everywhere.
cooney was a strong option up forward, providing an avenue into the forward 50 while also kicking a couple of goals himself.

Posting performance:
Demons Posting - Round 7 v Roys

Posting against the Roys was well down on previous games this season but it was largely due to lower activity levels from the Roys as the Demons contributed over 63% of the match thread posts. We also maintained our season average of 22 active posted in the thread.

Gralin led the way once again with Scythe94 adding a sneaky post very late to break the deadlock with Wosh.
Headless, Yakker, Hate and sante were all well down on their usual levels and Marlowe was sorely missed after blessing us with 30 posts in Round 5.

12 Demons still managed to reach double figures with two more falling just one short.

Notably, the only two games we've won this season are the two games where we've contributed over 60% of match thread posts.
At this point in time, we're sitting at 60.41% against the Phoenix.

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 8 v Phoenix
Round 08, Conditions for this match - MUDDY

So, we thought stats were down due to the rainy conditions in Round 7? Well they were even more down in the mud this week.
But apparently the worse the conditions get the better the Demons play. With any luck we'll get hit by a cyclone this Sunday and beat the Gumbies by 25 goals.

Bluelegs had a huge game off half back, and alongside him, jmoo wan was prominent at CHB. And did Headless prevail at Full Back again?
Hate and sante both appear to like playing in the wet and were among strongest performers in the midfield again.

Our forward line was strong, with Scythe94 and moginie providing plenty of opportunities for Wosh and PMBangers with both having five shots at goal. Let's not mention Bangers' 1.4 for the day and focus instead on the heroics from club legend cooney who kicked two goals very late in the game, including the match winner with only one minute to go. Awesome stuff coondog!

Demons Posting - Round 8 v Phoenix

What do Rounds 1, 7 and 8 have in common? The Demons contributed over 60% of posts in all three of those match threads.
What else do Rounds 1, 7 and 8 have in common? The Demons won all three!

Both match threads after the bye have been well down on posting numbers in the first five rounds but it's probably more of a reflection on the lower activity levels from our opposition in those two rounds than on the Demons. Although we did have the lowest number of active posters in the thread, finishing with only 20, two less than our previous lowest. But seriously, do we really have a right to complain about having 20 active posters in a match thread? Most teams would love to have a week like that.

Gralin topped the posting for the 6th consecutive match, with Tarkyn_24 and Scythe94 taking the next two spots.
manangatang 'was consistent as always and moginie was amongst it again.
Headless , Hate , sante and DERO all bounced back after quieter weeks in Round 7 and Wosh finished the week with a flurry of posts after spending the majority of the week pretending her family is more important than us ;)

Wosh kicked 42 goals in Season 36, leading our count. This is Wosh’s second consecutive cats2rise Medal - congratulations, Wosh! 🥳

At the other end of the ground, Headless played at full-back for the season and was awarded All-Sweet FA representation for their efforts. Headless averaged 30+ posts per week, and also placed in this extremely balanced and fair thread that absolutely wasn’t only posted due to their self-interest:

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 9 v Gumbies
Round 09, Conditions for this match - RAINY

Rainy conditions again. Is it like this for everyone or just us?

The match went the same way as the posting numbers for the week; Demons were up at half time but blew the early lead and were overrun by the Gumbies.

Scythe94 and moginie both had huge games on their forward flanks making the most of the delivery from the centre line players.
The back line was pretty solid, not allowing any opposition players to kick more then 2 goals, and jmoo wan provided plenty of fun out of centre half back yet again.

Donuts were the order of the day with cats2rise and PMBangers both making the statistician's job easy.

Demons Posting - Round 9 v Gumbies

Going by the 60% posting pattern that had led to all three of our victories, we were well on track coming into the weekend. Suddenly the Demons stopped posting and the Gumbies picked up the pace. So from Friday afternoon to the end of the match thread we went from over 60% of posts in the match thread to 56%. The result? We claimed yet another loss from the jaws of victory.

Total posting numbers for the team was up on the previous two rounds though, probably due in some part to a more actvie opposition. But the majorty of posing came from fewer Demons than any other game with only seven Dees posting over 20 times.

Gralin led the way, as usual, but the others who typically round out the top three were a little further back than usual. moginie had a big week, finishing in the top three for the first time this season and I was up there for the second time.
Tarkyn_24 , Wosh and Scythe94 all finished with over 50 posts and Headless was the only other Demon to pass 20.

A win! We're back. And we didn't even need to post 60% of the total match thread posts.

It was the first game I played well in a win this season, topping the scores for the week. Tarkyn_24, Hate and sante also provided plenty of drive from the midfield.
moginie had another great game on his flank while PMBangers was back to his best with 3 goals along with Wosh. DERO got amongst the goals for the 6th match in a row, the longest run from any Demon this season.

Round 10 saw the highest number of Demons and overall posting in the match thread since the bye. We only had 11 players reach double ficures though, which was the lowest for the season, but on the plus side, we were back up to 22 active posters for the week.

We had three posters reach 100 posts, also for the first time since the bye. Gralin led the way with Wosh and Scythe94 also having big weeks. Tarkyn_24 and moginie were strong again.

It was great to see PMBangers , Hate , cooney and Van_Dyke all having big weeks after a relatively quiet month and for manangatang to bounce back after a quiet week in Round 9.

Notably, it was our first win for the season where the Demons did not have over 60% of all match thread posts.

[Round 11], Conditions for this match - MUDDY

Another win. One in a row, twice in a row!

Lowest week of posting for the season. And lowest week of DT stats for the season. But who cares? It was another win.

Yakker had his best game in a month, getting plenty of the ball. Tarkyn_24 showed once again that he'll have a shot at goal from anywhere, kicking two from the midfield. He's the only midfielder to be outscoring any of the forwards and one of only two goal scorers this season who has not kicked more goals than behinds. Some things never change.

cooney and DERO's goal kicking form continued. They were the only forwards who could keep up with Tarks' goal hungry efforts this week. DERO has now kicked goals in each of the last 7 rounds while coons has scored goals in 7 of the past 8 matches.
Leading goal scorers, Wosh and PMBangers were held to just one goal each while moginie moved up to 8th spot in the goal kicking with his single. Gralin also chipped in with one goal from his wing.

The defence was tight, holding the opposition to a total of 14 scoring shots. Key defenders, jmoo wan and Headless led the way and Bluelegs provided plenty of run from half back.

Demons Posting - Round 11 v Royals

After posting the highest numbers in month against the Warriors in Round 10, both Demons posting and total match thread posting against the Royals dropped to season lows. The low numbers were a result of the opposition though as we contributed 56% of the posts. Unfortunately, with a few exceptions, the Royals didn't really give us a lot to banter about.

Gralin , with another 100+ week of posting, was the only Demon to pass 50. The first time all season where we haven't had at least four players reach that level. We did have 12 players reach double figures though, one up o Round 10, but still well down on numbers from before the bye.

We still had 20 active posters despite the lower overall numbers. elow that number of active posters in any round this season.

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 12 v Bears

27. Great number. One of my favourites. And it was also the lead we enjoyed at 3 quarter time.
Didn't last long. By the middle of the quarter it was pretty much gone. In fact, the only reason we didn't end up losing was due to inaccuracy from the Bears late in the match.

But with regards to DT, it was a great game. We finally got some good weather, resulting in the highest team DT scoe for the season.

Hate and sante both had their best games for the season, cracking the ton for the first time, while Tarkyn_24 was only one point off his best game.
jmoo wan continued to dominate at Centre Half Back, ably supported by manangatang. DemonJim, cartwright and Headless.
One of the most impressive stats was the number of goal kickers, with nine Demons sharing the 13 goals kicked.

We didn't win, but still maintained our unbeaten record for all matches where we had over 60% of posts courtesy of the draw against the Bears.

Gralin 's run of gold continued with another big week. Wosh also posted a big ton while Tarkyn_24 bored us all with his 96 "contributions". Scythe94 and moginie were great again while manangatang , Headless , Hate and Yakker all finished in the 20s. Furies 122 - 117 Demons

Game performance:
Demons DT Stats - Round 13 v Furies

Conditions for this match - WARM

At half time the Demons were up by 3 goals, and after kicking another 2 goals in the first 3 minutes of the third quarter it was looking good. But then everything fell apart and by the 8 minute mark of the final quarter our 5 goal lead had turned into a 4 goal deficit.
We fought back though and when cats2rise kicked one from the wing we were back within a goal. Unfortunately the final siren sounded just as we were storming home. But to come within a goal of victory after being outscored by 9 goals in just over a quarter of qooty shows that we're good enough to win the flag if we can not just switch off for a quarter.

Yakker was back to his best, kicking three goals in his third 100 of the season and Hate also finished with back-to-back tons. Gralin and sante both had great games on their wings.

The backline was like a brick wall for three quarters, with DemonJim , Johnny Karate , manangatang and Headless all finding the ball along with Scythe94 who finished in the back pocket.

Up forward, moginie had his goal kicking boot on, finishing with four goals. DERO and PMBangers were back amongst the goals as well.

moginie , manangatang , Headless and PMBangers were all more involved than in Round 12 and it was great to see Bluelegs get back into double figures after a quiet month. cartwright was also up and about for the second week in a row.

Conditions for this match - CLOUDY

A 29 point win against the Wonders keeps our season alive. We've been one of the form teams since our Round 6 bye and if we win against the Dragons this week we'll have great momentum heading into the finals.

Hate has been at the top of his game in recent weeks, finishing with his third 100 in as many weeks. scythe ignored the fact that he'd moved back out of the midfield, running rampant from his flank, narrowly outscoring Tarkyn_24 , also in the 100s. Yakker 's good form also continued.
sante and Quivorir 's stats don't look overly impressive on paper, but the two tag teamed on the wing, combining for 132 points.

Up forward, Wosh and DERO led the scoring with moginie and cooney getting plenty of it at half forward, although coons must've left his kicking boots at home, finishing with three minor scores.

The Demons defence didn't have a lot to do thanks to the dominance from the midfield.

Demons Posting - Round 14 v Wonders

The Demons posted our highest overall numbers since last time we played the Dragons in Round 5. We had two less posters than that week, but you really can't complain about having 21 active posters in any match thread. For the fourth time in a month we had over 56% of total posts in Demons match threads, a feat we've achieved in seven of the last eight matches.
13 Demons posted at least 20 times with six of those reaching 50.

Wosh almost knocked Gralin off top spot this week, which hasn't happened since Round 1. Statistics tell me that Tarkyn_24 also had over 100 posts. I was not aware he'd been that active as I have him on ignore.

Highlights for the week included Headless and sante reaching half centuries, the first time for both since Round 4, the same week Yakker last had more than his 34 posts. It was also great to see cats2rise up an about, doubling his previous most active week of the season. Hopefully we'll see more of this.

Oh yeah! One more... The real highlight this week was Eth dropping in. This always gives the team a lift.

Conditions for this match - WARM

If you want to see how to throw away a game in one quarter, just randomly select any game we've lost this season and there's a fair chance you'll get what you're loking for. This week was just another example. After leading for most of the day, we just switched off completely for the last quarter, gifting the Dragons a spot in the finals.
We knew the Roys were pretty much gone by the 3 quarter time break so decided to save ourselves for the finals, where we'll go in with more energy in reserve than the other teams. Yeah, that's right. Demons finals domination coming up.

My habit of playing well in Demons losses continued, finishing with my first ton of the season. cats2rise played well after being moved onto the ball, finishing with his highest score of the season, as did DemonJim who had a huge game on his back flank, finishing with 12 marks. Key defenders Headless and Quivorir both beat their opponents in the air as well.

Up forward, Scythe94 provided an avenue to goal on his flank and PMBangers, DERO and cooney all chipped in for goals as usual. Wosh fell 19 goals short of kicking 19 goals. It's only the second time she's been held scoreless this season; both against the Dragons.

manangatang and sante decided saving energy for one quarter wasn't enough for them and decided to just take the week off. Actually, sante started the game, got possession of the ball and though "f*** this. I can't be botherd today. I'm out of here...

I didn't make that up. It actually happened.

Posting performance:
Demons Posting - Round 16 v Dragons

The Dragons bragged about being the most engaging club in the SFA without even realising that the Demons are the team they find most engaging. That's right, their threads with the Demons were their two biggest threads of the season. They clearly love us.

From the Demons point of view, this week was our second biggest match thread of the year, behind the Round 4 match against the Wonders. Five Demons reached triple figures, one more than our Round 5 match against the Dragons, but five less than we had against the Wonders.
We had 21 posters again leaving us with an average of 21.36 posters per week over the season.

Gralin, Wosh and Tarkyn_24 all posted back-to-back hundreds and Headless ended his steady increase in posting with a HUGE jump in activity.
sante finished with his second 50+ week in a row and Scythe94 , moginie, PMBangers and manangatang provided plenty of quality as always. Yakker, Hate, cooney and DERO were also up and about.
