What to do if you’re feeling unwell

If you are severely unwell, such as having difficulty breathing, call 000 (Triple Zero).

If you have travelled anywhere overseas in the past 14 days and have COVID-19 symptoms, seek testing at a COVID-19 clinic or contact your GP (advise your GP of your travel history) and isolate yourself.

If you have NOT travelled overseas recently, but are feeling unwell, visit your usual health care provider. Avoid contact with others if you are unwell.

The reason I would not use Italy as an example is Math based, They have the Oldest population a lot of the population is over 60 and least amount of School-aged Children so their reasoning is different, and their conditions are different.
But in Australia, we struggle when our Essential workforce drops off, who going to keep the lights on if we force the workers to stay at home, Avo's and night shift already run on minimal crews due to the Day shift carrying ut the major functions,
Who is going to sell you you basic if a large portion of the supermarket lose staff? there will be a long line up indoors, at the 1 or 2 cash registers and fewer people stacking shelves,
Who going to operate those truck needed to supply the supermarkets, and who going to ensure our sewage system is maintained if they lose worker who stay at home to watch there kids, And then there the effect on an overwork sector the emergency workers,

This is bigger decision than just closing schools and protecting teachers and students, it has a domino effect and that what they are trying to slow down,

Shutting the schools down should be the last thing we do, and if Possible wait until easter break when most have plans in place to cover the closure,
To shut them down today mean they stay shut for a possible 8 weeks, that a long time for parents to stay at home and a long time for essential service to run understaffed,

And some of 160 odd countries who have shut down the schools are starting to report problems of this kind.

Again our schools are closing in a couple of weeks and most likely remain shut for 4-5 weeks we are better off prepare for that, let not make that 8 plus weeks of closure today and run our essential services to the ground,

Yeah I agree it is more complex...my point is around using Singapore as an example. And I wouldn't use Italy as an example either.

It was more of a criticism of Morrison's statement which was stupid.

Every country will be different based on a large number of factors... population density, age demographic, health demographic, type of industries and social cultural environment (how people mix on a daily basis), the health system, citizen tracking by govt (obviously far different in Asian countries). Then on top of that the controls each government puts in place. No country will be the same.

I can see many reports/reviews etc in many years time looking back at what has and is happening... What factors had greatest impacts etc.

Edit: scary but quite fascinating...

Not really. We're one of the most highly urbanized populations on earth.

Sure there's a lot of sparsely populated space where densities are very low, but that's not where 90% of the people live.
I wouldn’t have thought our cities would be anywhere close in high density locations.

We need to get away from this daily update of CV confirmed case numbers. First it's totally inaccurate as we are most likely only testing 20% of the potential cases that should be tested due to a lack of test kits. Really what purpose of daily number updates does it serve other than scaring people. We know this thing is here and spreading. Media here need to show some maturity and focus on limiting spread and ways to boost your immune system.

We are on the Italian trajectory. Cases double every 3 days. 100 last Tuesday. 451 today. 900 by Friday. 1800 next Tuesday. And that’s cause no one gives a shit and are going about their normal day.

Only a very small number not directly attributable to inbound travellers. Heard on radio 15 minutes ago that the number not traceable to inbounds is about 16. Genie not yet out of the bottle. Probably on a knife edge though.

The media should be focusing on shaming people on the streets for hoarding at the supermarkets and not practicing social distancing.

Go around interviewing morons getting them to explain why they are putting society in danger.

Plus other essential factual information of course

I still think it might be a factor - maybe not in places like Sydney / Melbourne, but elsewhere.

We are an island, we can control imports, we have a low density population (with exceptions). As opposed to e.g. the UK, where they've got 66 million people in a space the size of Victoria. We have advantages. No reason to be complacent, of course, but it'll be interesting to see how that pans out.

We should have foreseen this coming.

The baby formula racket and the in-store fighting & online re-selling that went on last year with that caramilk chocolate should have been prior warning.

ahhhh, our federal minister for health Greg Hunt... when asked today how many Covid19 test kits the country had available he said “OH, WE’RE LOOKING INTO THAT”.... and “checking with my state counterparts to get the figure”...

WHAT THE FAAARK??.. they’ve know about this virus for more than two fu**in months now and this incompetent dickhead still hasn’t got a hold on something as basic, and bloody important, as how many test kits there are available in the country. Surely someone at the top would’ve prioritised this from the outset?.. run out of test kits and you run out of the ability to effectively test for, and thus control, the spread of the virus. Wouldn’t you want to have a pretty accurate And up to date count of how many you have and how quickly you are using them up?...

not really.

My inner conspiracy theorist makes me think that it's in Coles and Woolworths best interests to keep the panic buying going for as long as possible.

They want people going in there every day looking for scarce items because they know that people will walk out there with other items.

We heard weeks ago that there's supposedly plenty of toilet paper and yet there's still shortages of it in stores, I reckon they're only bringing in enough to make sure that the demand stays high.

I reckon the old people are returning each morning and wiping it out before normal people get a chance.

Went into Woolworths on Goodwood rd 2 hours ago. Store has been practically wiped out of stock. No point going in there. People are really listening to Morrison. Surprising no security guard in there. Foodland opposite Ark has had one for 7 or 8 years I can remember.

They can't physically provide enough TP to satisfy demand.

I was in Coles on the weekend, it was being restocked in the middle of the day. Some guy went up to the cage and took out the entire plastic bag of Kleenex 12-packs before it had even been opened. The staff member had to chase him down and take it out of his trolley.

Our transmission rates are similar to the UK and US so I'm afraid that's a forlorn hope.

And yeah we live on an island but the time to use that advantage and seal the borders has well passed. Most cases are traced back to people flying in according to health.gov.au. The genie is out of the bottle.

Surely we are approaching the point where every fridge, freezer, pantry and garden shed in the country is packed out? How much longer can this go on???

surely if you’ve got any symptoms, no matter how mild, you assume you have it even if you don’t get tested for it.
That would be ideal in theory. My husband developed mild cold symptoms on Monday. Called gp office and they just about refused him an appointment cause he didn’t sound sick enough. He said I’m a teacher, wife is a doctor, would rather get a medical opinion to be sure. He doesn’t qualify for testing under current guidelines and told he probably didn’t have it and told to stay home til Wednesday and if no better then call back. That’s the advice people are getting. He’s not 100 % so planning to take rest of week off but others would just go back to work, out in the community etc. he may have it, me and ourchildren may be exposed but we have no symptoms. So now do we all isolate? We don’t have enough tests so we just don’t know how much is out there.

Places carrying this out strongly also have an app that can monitor to make sure people are staying in quarantine. Wristbands also. The public also care and are taking it seriously. India are stamping peoples hands and it has a date your quarantine ends.

Same as Hong Kong. They got smashed by SARS. The second they heard a mysterious pneumonia was found in China, they were ready to go.
They are all wearing face masks which help a lot. Apparently they have basically eradicated the flu there due to everyone wearing face masks.

Teachers, school staff and even the principals know that the current situation is utter BS. Can't do anything about it.

The thing is, no one is being tested. We dont have the kits to test. Unless you are really sick and have had contact with someone from OS you cant get tested.
If your a celebrity, politician or sports star, no problem.
We got a delivery of 100 000 test kits today. How far do you reckon thats going to go?
We need a shed tonne more.
One way to keep the confirmed numbers down is dont test.
We could be at 2000, 5000 or 10 000 cases.

Suggestions that over 2/3 may be asymptomatic
