the fact that Bomber has admitted to the press that he is meeting with us, in GF week when the "I have a GF to worry about" line would have worked absolutely beautifully and should really be the answer he gives, surely speaks volumes and volumes?

Watson has been very "fishy" about this on SEN, and who remembers Hird on the footy show, when Billy said Thompson was definitely staying, "How do you know Billy" ,but it was the smirk/body language that got me.

Just trying to put pieces together, but somethings brewing here folks. Undeniable.

I'm with ya Smokin'... and where there's Smokin', there's fire!

Exciting times ahead!! :D

There is no fire, Bomber Thompson will not even be interviewed by Essendon. I believe the decision has been made and the club will be sticking to it's inital beliefs by bringing in a young untried coach to develop with the list with the aim of 2010.

so what you're saying is that Thompson is a liar, or are we simply grossly incompetant?

I was surprised to hear from during an interview of retiring hawthorn player Joel Smith that Hardwick is the forwards coach. Meaning he was responsile for the buddy and roughhead combo that worked so well this year. He is the right choice with experience forward and back!

ha!

Still havnt got your head around the fact that what Joe public are told is rarely the truth.

To quote myself Mark Thompson will not be interviewed by the EFC. The coach has been decided after an effective process conducted by Stride management and the EFC selection panel. All interviewed have presented the board, and I imagine a press statement will be made at some point.

Make of my opinion what you will. Or is it opinion.

Gee, didnt realise that.

Why on earth would, assuming the above, would the Coach of a GF side come out and say that on Melbourne radio days before the GF? To endear himself to the Cats club and fans?

Why would you mention Stride? Is your "contact" there? They would just deal with applicants. Bomber aint one, he is/has been headhunted and his interview/process would only be privy to certain board members and Thompson, no need for an outsourced company to read his CV.

Anyway, time will tell, Im not even sure which of the two Id prefer, but my strong feel that it will be Thompson, had this for a while now.

I also feel that either way, Hardwick will be offered a position at the EFC.

Appreciate your thinking smokin and time will tell very shortly. Let's just hope the Coach that has been appointed is accepted well by the many Essendon supporters and we can now all move on and get on with supporting a rebuliding side that will get us back to the top.

The only thing in this whole issue i know for a fact is that Williams was Essendons preferred choice.

There are "signs" and assumptions to be made everywhere for and agaisnt each candidate.

The one thing that sticks in my mind that i believe was a slip of the tongue, on a day of slips for Matty was this statement.

"The club has narrowed it down to 2 candidates and our new coach will be a young, exciting, disciplinarian coach" or something close to that anyway.

He didn't say might be or anything else, he said WILL BE and spoke as if he knew and agreed with the decision

Maybe i'm reading too much into it, i dunno, it's got me going round and round in circles.

Thanks for your concern. Do you have any sort of clue at all?? Appreciate everyone's entitled to their opinion, but this has surely gotta be a troll!

Hardwick's got a sensational track record.... tough, tenacious, uncompromising, aggressive, defensively-minded premiership player at 2 clubs. AA, Club B&F (ours), Twice International representative. He's experienced tremendous success as an Assistant through the rebuilding at Hawthorn... a few more coaching runs on the board than Kevin Sheedy had when he was appointed (Kev only had 1 year between ending playing and starting coaching!)

Tell me... how else do you get coaching runs on the board? You think we should appoint Neale Daniher or Dennis Pagan? Or maybe even bring back Barry Davis?

If the club reckons he ticks all the boxes in which we (as outsiders) can have no real insight, then I reckon he's a top choice.

If I was you, I'd be more worried about getting half-decent compensation for your departed skipper! :D

Well one way to start is to coach at a lower grade ( which he hasn't done ) and just see how he goes that is my main point to all this gee wiz anyone would think that I cut Hardwicks throat.

Clarkson did coach at lower level and successfully won a Premiership then moved on to Port were he did his assistant apprenticeship.

Thanks for letting me give my opinion  good luck in the near future if Hardwick gets the job.:p

Yep, Im pretty sure either one will be accepted well.

"The club has narrowed it down to 2 candidates and our new coach will be a young, exciting, disciplinarian coach" or something close to that anyway.

He said "younger", and when talking about Sheedy, doesnt rule out too many!

Im sure the quote can be found, but it was much softer than that, something like younger, fairly disciplined who was excited to go, something like that.

Listening to it, I actually took it as some sort of dig at Sheedy actually, indirectly saying he was too old, not disciplined enough and had lost his excitement/passion for the game.

The fact that he said "younger", and not "young", gave it away to me that he was referring it directly back to Sheedy, not forward to the next bloke. Just my take.

Yeah, i just listened to it again and he said..

"Our senior coach is going to be someone that is pretty strong disciplined, a younger coach who's raring to go"

I think you could be right about the dig at Sheedy

I dunno anymore, i just hope we can find out very early next week, the waiting is killing me

For soem reason, I'm not finding myself warming to the idea of Hardwick as coach. It just doesn't seem right just yet. That's not to say he isn't well equipped to do the job, he just doesn't seem quite right for the job in my mind.

At the moment, I'm on the Matthew Knights bandwagon.

Im 85% sure that Mark Thompson will be the next coach of Essendon. Why would the Essendon board wait so long to appoint a coach and why did Mark Thompson hold of contract negotiations with the cats throughout the year. Thompson is still pissed off about what happened last year - review etc. I think he will be a bomber again, also have a small source on this...... :thumbsu:

Note: Sheedy was sacked at the start of the year, Thompson didnt commit to geelong....

Re: Knights to coach

Just got told that this was revealed on a news flash that he would be named as coach within the hour. Not to sure how i feel about this appointment but i am willing to see how he goes before i pass judgement.
