Purely based on his high level CV, Hardwick sounds fanatstic.

6 minor premierships knows what it takes to win week in/week out
2 premierships knows how to win the big one
Coached by Sheedy & Williams Experience with 2 great coaches
Hardnut We all want the side to be tough
With Clarkson from the start Seen/involved in successful redevelopment of a side
Essendon player Not necessary, but nice :)
Defender I rate defenders as coaches

You've made some very good points. If Melbourne snaps him up I will be sick.

With our recruiting and player development, how can Dodorro keep his job?

Re: Coach interview

How long is Dodoro contracted for?

I presume he's staff and therefore not under "contract" as such.

I'd imagine their disclaimer would be that he has improved with experience and there is some evidence to suggest that.

I'd also imagine the other thing the club would point to is the addition of Merv Keane to assist in the process.

That being said, I'm not a fan.

All good points Ant. Hard to go past Hardwick, unless Bomber, Mark Harvey or Williams come into the frame. Even then, it's probably only a track record in the big chair that's lacking..... and there's only one way to get that. It's interesting (and commendable) that Fremantle had a senior coach in waiting once Connolly went. Shows far superior planning than our own bumbling thus far... or is Gary Aryres in the frame?

I think Dodoro may go then...

why cant gary odonnell coach us we brought him down from brisbane to coach us

How much improvment has the midfielder shown in doing the one percenters since GOD has been back ?
I think his best position will be football manager.

Yes he is. The board will have the final say as far as him staying or going.
Of course a new coach may have someone in mind for the job and Dodoro would be on his way after this draft.

Fair enough question IMO. Funny how their experience under Sheedy was a strong point in the applications of Harvey, Thompson, Daniher and Watson when they launched their coaching careers; now we want to get right away from his legacy. I'd love to see Harvey come back, it'd be a interesting tag-team with Go'D at the helm.

Re: Coach interview

and how would you know?????

I know suma would be a ****ing disaster, unfortunately Neale has shown nothing, Mc Kenna according to people who follow WAFL here was bad, Bond well OK don't know a lot about him, just what I've heard people say & I guess that causes me concern, so back to Dimma.

How would you know any of those others would be any good as coaches? ?????????

Re: Coach interview

It's funny, because about 12 months ago she was sprouting how Neale Daniher would be our next coach.

How it was as good as a done deal.

Really Longy, want to post where I said that, I have always said I want Harvs to be our next coach, never ever said Neale, try again.

How do you know Suma would be a disaster? I'm guessing that you are going off gut feelings as you, like everyone else, know very little about the coaching styles or traits of the individuals.

He doesn't but he's not the one spouting his mouth off about how bad some people would be and how good others would be.

I distinctly remember you bleating about it.

And I distinctly remember telling you it was crap.

I won't bother digging it up, I don't have to.

As the Demons' coaching race heated up, Essendon was taking a low-key approach to its search for a replacement for Sheedy.

The Bombers, headed by chief executive Peter Jackson, yesterday interviewed Bulldogs assistant Chris Bond.
Bond and Collingwood assistant Guy McKenna were overlooked for the Demons' short list.

It's understood the Bombers, whose wish list is headed by Geelong coach Mark Thompson and Port Adelaide's Mark Williams, will also this week have discussions with Neale Daniher, Hardwick and McKenna.

A call on the Demons job will be made tomorrow night. From there, it is a matter of reaching agreement with the successful applicant.
The coaching selection panel voting on the candidates is Gardner, chief executive Steve Harris, former Hawthorn coach Peter Schwab, former Demon Garry Lyon, ex-Saint Nathan Burke, football director Stephen Bickford and club psychologist Anthony Klarica.
The Demons would need to sort out both salary and bonuses -- plus preferred support staff -- meaning there will be no announcement until next week at the earliest.

"Once there is a decision made, there is still a lot of things to discuss," Gardner said.

A public announcement may be delayed if the successful candidate is involved in finals.

Both Hardwick and Bailey are with teams vying for the flag.

Essendon spokesman Simon Matthews said yesterday the club would not publicly discuss the coaching recruitment process.

"It is private and confidential and we believe from now on it should stay in-house," Matthews said.

The Bombers are not expected to make a coaching appointment until after the Grand Final.

The possibility of landing Williams is practically zero as he has said he would be at Alberton in 2008.

Thompson's management has been approached by the Bombers, but any further discussions, if any at all, will be on hold until after the Cats' campaign is over.

That's because you bloody well can't, because it doesn't exist.

Well you distinctly are full of shit. I have always said I want Harvs for the job & got howled down by the usual susects, saying they want someone from outside the club to coach.

Someone can do it for me I'm sure.

How do you know Sumich would be bad? I can take what you say about McKenna because there is something behind it even though it is heresay, at least its something. Similar story with Mathew Knights over here in the sanfl, I've heard nothing good about his time at Port and I hope we stay well clear of him. But I think you're being harsh on Sumich.
