I like the yellow collar and cuffs. It would make more sense for it to be a direct reversal wouldn't it?

Would work better as a clash that way too.

Don't understand how it is a copy of the WA state uniform when their sash was fat and straight, they had black collar and cuffs and wore black shorts with Richmond socks. They also had no sash on the back.

Curved thin black sash with yellow shorts and yellow socks with black hoops plus sash on the back vs fat straight black sash with black collar and cuffs with black shorts and black socks with yellow hoops plus no sash on the back. There's the difference.

Here are some images from the Heritage Guernsey launch.

Front Text includes the club motto 'Suaviter in Modo, Fortiter in Re' then blow John Coleman's signature and underneath

It's blurry but you can see the EFC monogram.

You can tell this is a prototype as the cuffs and collar aren't double stitched onto the jumper like normal Adidas player issue guernseys.

Also there is no number near the back so i'm assuming the player issues haven't been made yet.

Jesus christ.

Sorry to break it to you mate, but your club isn't that great. The sun doesn't shine out of Windy Hill's arse and you're not as remarkable as you seem to think. Get over yourself and get over your club. I respect your tradition and envy your success. You're a strong club on field and off. But you are not bigger than the league and you are not the be all and end all. You're one of 18 clubs and you're no more important.

Also. Your jumper is extremely is boring and red looks quite bogan when contrasted with black. A big meh. You think you're above everyone else because you're so "historical." Well, uh, you and your club don't say that when you're accepting the dollars from Kia and Adidas – especially when one is consistently changing the thing you adore most: The sash. You pick and choose the elements of professionalism that you like.

We are all somewhat one-eyed and wear the ol' rose tinted glasses. We love our clubs and will until we die. But I think we all appreciate other clubs and other players. And we're all capable of realising the negatives our sides have. You are clearly unable to do this. Because of that, you're probably the kind of person who'd be in a banner crew screaming "mffhyuw lloyd!!!!"

For the last time, get off your high horse. As you might be able to see by the number of likes all my posts are getting in here, and the fact you're getting none, what I'm saying is what we're all thinking.

**** Essendon. You have a clash like everyone else. Welcome to 2012.

This Call Me Cake replied to your post but in one of the threads on the Essendon board thought you might like to see it.

However, I also got this reply from a Fremantle supporter,

Oh god, I genuinely lol'd at the "mffhyuw lloyd!!!!" part, especially after trying to pronounce it.

All those tasty, salty tears.

I seriously cannot wait until we're winning premierships and shit again. I'm going to be the most arrogant supporter in the world.

I remember it very well. And I remember voting for the one on the right because my thinking at the time was, it looks more like a Richmond jumper.
Times change and ideas change and if we did go to yellow with a black sash, I'd support it and buy it.

As Gibbsy pointed out, Away jumpers usually have True Value on the front and Kia on the back as well.
Now I know it is foolish at the best of times to question the accuracy of the almighty Mero, but I believe it is the case this year that Kia is on the front and True Value Solar is on the back when we are the away team.

From the EFC online shop:

Essendon’s exciting new heritage guernsey provides a unique platform for the club to commemorate its past. The new design pays homage to a club champion by including John Coleman’s signature and the club motto within the traditional red sash on the front of the garment. Other features include a unique sew in neck label with Coleman historical stats, the EFC heritage logo on the back of the guernsey, as well as an honour roll of every Essendon premiership player embedded in the body of the garment.
Exclusive to the Bomber Shop, order the Heritage sleeveless guernsey to receive a bonus DVD which includes never seen before footage of John Coleman.

You're not serious, are you?

That's like saying the current Essendon home strip isn't the same as the 2009 home strip. "Oh, this one has a straight sash, the other one was droopy. Not the same."

I guess it's also like saying Richmond changed their jumper in the early 2000s. Just because you now have a sash on the back, it doesn't mean the jumper is completely different. It's the same basic design, but with altered minor elements. Every club and apparel provider will change small parts of a club's jumper. But at the core, it's the same jumper. You don't associate the Bib-neck with Collingwood, you associate black and white strips with Collingwood.

The straightness of the sash, the continuity of the back, the trim... these are all minor details. It's basically the same design as the old WA State jumper. I don't care about that at all. It's a really individual, classy, but out of the box design. I'd love for the Tiges to trot out in it. But you'd have to admit, it's basically the same as the WA jumper...

As for the possibility of this as a Tigers jumper. I like it. I'm a big supporter of clubs reversing their kits. Freo, Port, North, Melbourne, and the Bulldogs all do it. And because their home strips are timeless, so too are the clash solutions. Carlton did it and it looked great as well. I think it's basically the perfect way of meeting the clash requirement. The club can keep some heritage and continuity throughout their strips, the fans can enjoy it because it's in team colours, and for design buffs... well, it's going to be a lot better than a birdhead or big wave. It's a traditional way of meeting a modern requirement.

I like the idea of brand continuity as well. It gives young kids an idea of what a club looks like. What are the West Coast Eagles to a 5-year old? If they wore their wings, yellow and blue would be synonymous with the Eagles. The wings is a classic and original design, there's nothing like it in world sport. Classic Finals Wings for home, Yellow Peril for away/clash. Perfect.

As for that proposed Richmond idea. I think yellow shorts would make it look a bit soft and sickly. I could imagine BT having a laugh about it. White would break up the extremely striking yellow colour, but as long as the socks were black-on-yellow (not the current yellow-on-black), the strip would still make sense.

Onto Essendon's new jumper. I like that video a lot, from The xx soundtrack to the shots used. Umbro and Nike do some awesome work with their soccer videos, utilising classic cinematography to purview something as simple as a soccer strip. It's really cool that the Bombers and Adidas have come out and make a video this good.

When watching the video, I was instantly reminded of another sports kit.

The 2007/2008 Arsenal away kit has a lot in common with this Bombers one. Firstly, both were quite polarising. The Arsenal shirt was met with "but it looks like Spurs!"

Most obvious is the scrawl. The Bombers one pays homage to past champions. The Gunners top, however, is all about one man: Herbert Chapman (for those who don't know: He's perhaps the most important man in AFC history. Came up with the kit, the playing style, the idea of numbers for footballers... a total innovator). Written on the shirt is a bit of a history lesson on the old champ.

There's also an inside collar iron on.

The Arsenal shirt also has a 'classic' looking typeface on the back of the shirt. (My photo wouldn't upload, but it's there.)

What's wrong with yellow shorts and an all yellow kit? Would look awesome IMO.

Personally, I'm not a fan of monochrome. Richmond could make a white jumper work. I would think something like this:

Only not as pedestrian. Maybe remove the side panels, add some claw marks, a black outline to the sash (or is that too Essendon?).

The only thing that BT should be laughing at is his commentating career. He is a joke.

I don't understand why they don't use their training jumper!? It would avoid a clash with Essendon, has a stylised sash and uses the new club logo (a good marketing aspect).
