Leon was on very good coin this year as his last contract was done after his AA year in '09.

He only had one or two years left maximum, not the end of the world.

Hopefully this means we keep Caff.

A bit of a pity but at least he goes out on the back of a great season. He's been a fantastic player for us and has had some serious highlights to his career. All the best to him it sounds like he'll play in the WAFL next season.

On another note it's good that we're not short of running/small defenders.

This is awful. Didn't get a flag for him, and this was his best year!!

I don't think the flag is too high on his agenda anymore. Pity because it's on everyone elses.

Thank you Leon. A great Collingwood player. Will miss the finger wag & big smile. Looks as though the salary cap is biting big time (although, perhaps now can improve Caff deal to keep him).

Nothing is confirmed. BT is merely a mouth piece for Pickering/Leon getting a contract pay increase.

wouldn't Leon be eligible for veterans list? if so, we should of been able to fit him in easily

He was eligible for the vets list, which means if he wasn't offered much then he doesn't free up much if he leaves either.

I don't trust what BT is saying, I'd say Leon's heart isn't in it anymore, his partner is an SA girl/women, and the rest of his family is in Perth, the pull for him to come home has always been there, and it's finally got him.

I'd say he's made this decision more with location in mind then money.

He would have been offered a decent contract, even if it was less then his last one, as he is veterans list eligible, which means a decent chunk of his pay would have been able to be "hidden" under the VL.

I'll wait till I hear what Leon has to say before judging his exit, BT is known to be very close to Leon, and could be making more out of the situation then there is.

If he leaves due to money, the Pies must be really close to the max of the salary cap, as it shows we can't even afford him for one year on a veterans list scenario. Not boding well for trying to re sign players coming out of contract next year.

BT also is a MM fanboi, has no time for Nathan Buckley. He is merely trying to better Leon's contract, nothing more, nothing less.

Interesting he says the only contact the club has had with Leon's management is a phone call from Liam Pickering this morning, who informed the club Leon would be returning to WA.

Pickering then has been out of contact since then, and so has Leon.

Strange.
