neither the ox nor the earth is patient when there are potential players to be wooed in trade window.

We're not on the recruiting front foot. If Don Pyke (as suggested in today's paper) refuses to present until all duties are finished with WC then he's not for us. Imo

I would not be happy if true however I am prepared to wait another couple of days to get the right man

this is a critical decision

We could probably debate that until the end of time. There's merit in saying "I was employed for the year, the awards night is part of the year, I don't want to devalue that night by causing distractions".

Certainly not an immature statement.
Maybe, but when the club you're committed to leading for the next X number of years is 3 days away from an extremely important trade period, a B&F night doesn't mean shit. It's not like he's favourite for an award and would be awkward if he wasn't there, he's just an assistant coach. Just one of the 80 guys wearing suits that night.
The future of our football club, the club that he is going to be the leader of is so much more important than a B&F. And if it isn't, he's not the coach for us.

Is it the same role as Pyke though, if it is you have a point.

Fagan said that we would have an appointment no later than a week after the GF. That we haven't made the appointment based on his statement makes me feel uneasy.
Maybe something hasn't gone to plan or who we thought we would get has gone south. Fages flying to Brisbane has thrown the cats amongst the pigeons also.
Not sure what to make of all this, we should bloody well have made the appointment by now I would have thought in time for trade period.

This better have a good ending!!

He said in the first two weeks of October as the more recent comments about when it was likely to be announced. Those comments were made about 3 weeks ago from memory.

I don't know how true this is, but if it is seriously makes me question Pyke

Caracella is highly regarded as an AFL coach-in-waiting — as is Pyke who has declined to make his presentation to the full Adelaide sub-committee until clear of duties at West Coast

I just think an assistant should say how high, if they're not desperate for the job then they aren't all in or right for us

just speculating, I wonder if our interest in Caracella is because we are similarly unimpressed about Pyke's alleged prevarication?

He can gagf if that's the case.
We're treating him as the priority, he's treating us as just another job interview, that he might find time to show up to if he feels like it.

Oh please! Phil Walsh did not want to talk to us until his duties at Port were done and dusted. It's called being professional and doing your job with diligence and pride.

If one of our assistants was a candidate at other clubs and they came out with that attitude, we would be praising them. And just on Pyke, the guy has been more successful at whatever he has done in the last 2 decades than majority of this board could just dream of.

can you give me examples of where others have done this?

the 2 other clubs who needed coaches this year:
1. took theirs early from the premiers
2. the other took theirs from us.

you can't really think its our plan to wait this long by design?

People were freaking about us taking our time last year as other teams signed up new coaches left and right.

Then they got their hopes up for Clarkson and when it wasn't they spat it again claiming we'd missed our man and blah blah.

Then it turned out we were never really after Clarkson and we'd signed Walsh and he was amazing.

was walsh really amazing? it was a very short honeymoon. we'll never really know.

I just don't think it can be our choice that we wait this long, if you had your way you'd get it done sooner. surely?

I think the tragedy will certainly lift his standing to legendary status (as often happens after a sudden death). But I do really think he was on the right track. So sad we'll never get to know for sure.

Nah, I think we have hit a glitch. We were meant to announce our coach this week.

Unless of course he has signed and we are waiting to announce, which isn't really consistent with still interviewing people.

Seriously need to calm down people.
