Northcote Park were all over Heidelberg from start to finish, Jess Sinclair got red carded, and it just appeared as if they didn't know how to play through the glue pot at Westgarth Street, as it only rarely got deep forward for Heidelberg.

I noticed Heidelberg only had two on the bench in the reserves as well. Struggling for numbers?

Almost a mirror image of the Bundy Match report without the red card. Outplayed by a determined bunch of young kids who had a red hot go.
Note: To the under 19's and reserves that stand in the bowling club end forward pocket, the banter toward the forwards at the start was witty and entertaining but as the piss sunk in, the abuse stepped up to the point where a current Macleod junior coach made comments about another macleod junior coach's family which I have no doubt are going to come back and bite the young fellow fair on the nose. The player had to bne restrained after the game but I'm sure he won't be as restrained at training at Macleod this week.

Club dealt with this issue last night. One player suspended for a game, another on notice, the rest of the under-19s banned from drinking until the start of the senior game, no more gathering in a forward pocket (they will be right under our noses near the coaches box). President has apologised to the Bundoora player and the two under-19s players will be doing likewise this week in person. Very disappointing to say the least and takes the gloss of what should have been a great win by our seniors. Do other clubs have issues with their under-19s drinking after their game? If so how do you deal with it?

I would have thought that you have dealt with it in a very appropriate way. Suspend them, ban them from drinking until the seniors, and limit them to where they should be standing. But the biggest punishment that you have handed them is making them man up and apologise in person to the bloke. I am sure they will be shltting their pants at the thought of doing that. Well done to Macleod.

Maybe the NFL should consult your committee on how to run a hearing and apporpriate punishments?

There's not a whole lot more you can do, you just hope this warning to all the kids to pull their heads in will set the tone for the rest of the season because you don't want that culture/reputation as a club, especially with these future leaders.

Excellent work by the Macleod Committee. Well done, it just proves we can drag this organisation kicking and screaming into the future.

On this day 40 years ago, an incident took place in the DVFL that was unprecedented and had serious repercussions for the North Heidelberg FC.

On July 8th, 1972 down at Shelley St with the scores Greensborough 18.10. to North 5.9, the NHFC senior team decided that they had had enough and they walked off the ground.

Not sure as to the reasons they staged the walk off. I can only assume that it had something to do with the umpire favouring Boro a bit too much. If anyone knows the full story please let us know.

As a result the NHFC were disqualified for the remainder of the 72 season and the entire 73 season. Two subsequent appeals failed to change the decision of the tribunal.
Historian, I now live in Northern NSW and am way, way distant from DVFL/NFL, but I've got a teaser to test out how good your historical knowledge is.....
Back in the early 1970s (or even earlier maybe), the DVFL was one division. Macleod Rosanna played South Morang out on Plenty Road and both teams were sort of evenly matched. South Morang was a top-of-the-table team at the time.
On this particular day there was an almighty stink with serious injuries, crowd involvement, and I think the game was probably called off because it was so ugly.
The aftermath was that both teams were heavily punished, South Morang probably more so in financial terms. The interesting part of this posting is that I reckon that from that day, South Morang lost their competitve edge and sank down the ladder. Divisionalisation came reasonably soon after and SM was in second division and they sort of wallowed down there.
And I reckon that they have never recovered from that fight in about 1970.

Can you or anyone else cast any light on this....happy if you tell me that I am just living the Northern NSW life too much and my memories are wrong.

Absolute thumbs up. Your committee should be congratulated.

All sides want their U19s and 2nds hanging around and supporting the 'ones' however moronic, personal insults behind a beer and believing you are untouchable is of great concern. I love great sledging, actually most players enjoy a good one but there is a line and clubs have to act.

Wayne Bannister was the lead culprit from Sth Morang. Divisions started end of 1980. The decline is more related to urban growth inner suburbs way before the sprawl reached out to Sth Morang - they now have the largest junior club in Aust. Food for (future) thought

I'm not too sure having them relocate under the coaches box is going to make them behave any different.
If anything, beer sales will increase as they are closer to the bar (lol)......and now the umpires have to be escorted in between The Mob and the Future Mob. We may have to acquire a tunnel from the umpire change rooms onto the ground.
Any chance of a public flogging on Plenty Road ?

It was 1974 - "game stopped due to fighting - both clubs fined $500"

After that, South Morang had their most successful years in divvy 1
1974 - finished 8th
1975 - 12th
1976 - 6th
1977 - 3rd, lost qualifying final to Eltham, lost 1st semi to Mont
1978 - 5th, lost elimination final to Boro
1979 - 11th
1980 - 13th
1981 - divvy 2

1876 & historian,
Thanks to you both for your posts - seems that my brain isn't quite as fried as they tell me it is !
Macleod-Rosanna was travelling pretty well (won the flag in 1971 at Warringal Park, I think with Ray Shaw in the premiership team) but I think they went bad after the big stink, and found themselves in Division Two when the split was made, and it took many years for them to get going again.

1876, I hope that Wayne Bannister said how sorry he was to all those that got reemed as a result of that day - I think that South Morang got suspended from the comp for a while after it all.

Whats going on at Bundoora? Rumour has it mass player walk outs, coach problems ect

Yeah Yeah, Load of crap. Big injury list and a numbe rof players taking mid season O/S holidays. All will be back fit and firing for the finals.
Now where did I put that lawnmower?

Gents - My comments re Bannister were only a guess. As a small boy, I recall him (ex boxer I think?) going from Northcote or somewhere like that, to Sth Morang and then a really big fight one day that had huge ramifications. Point of note. In 1980, Hberg were one of the 4 teams to get relegated. They have done pretty well since then!

Those '77 and '78 seasons, Morang had some well credentialled players ... ex-Preston, Collingwood, Fitzroy, W.A. state players etc etc ... Len Clark (C/C), Wayne Bannister (as mentioned already), Barry Leslie, Ian Grieg (brother of), Tom Martin (brother of H.), Elias "Demo" Demestichas, Robert "Clackers" Clarke (killed in his prime !), Neil White, Ken Marshall, Frank Mileto, Rod Butler, Peter Bassett, Brett Johnstone ... to name just a few !!!! ... and apologies to those un-mentioned.
I recall playing in that Boro elimination where one of the boundary umps was deaf. A mate of mine watching the game thought that was great a thing for the "those with a disability" cause ... deadly serious, he did ask me after the game if the ball had a bell in it to help the boundary umpire keep track of where it was !! ... true story ....

Thanks Pheonix for the insight. So the meeting between players and coach regarding various bitchy issues didnt take place? I was told that an "airing of views" was had with some references to Cloke and his manner / conflict with other players and coach. I have no proof, just what I was told at the Lower on Friday night
