AFLW 2024 - Round 10 - Chat, game threads, injury lists, team lineups and more.
I think that would make things rather difficult for teams coming down. However whatever keeps the division competitive and gives battling clubs a chance is a tick for local footy
Would any club other than PH go anywhere near that?
I agree. Didn't expect it at all. They have been breathing down the neck of a promotion the last couple of seasons but well played on beating a red hot LaurimarUnreal. Well done to south.
Imagine if they won from here
Surely they won’t go to 18 games.I wonder how many clubs will be affected by the likely change from 16 to 18 games next year... as another poster commented, players are already being signed for 2020 so it'll be interesting to see how clubs respond to this, I can imagine it won't be favourable.

Great season from your guys to get both seniors and reserves into finals even though not winning a final across both grades would be disappointing still it’s a fantastic achievement. From the games I’ve seen this year I’d bloody well hope not
100% true. I can confirm that the league sent out an email Friday advising this and that there are clubs currently playing that are not financial.cant be true as league needs to notify clubs a lot earlier as some clubs have already started signing players for next year
Who are the clubs? Is one of them still alive in the finals?100% true. I can confirm that the league sent out an email Friday advising this and that there are clubs currently playing that are not financial.
I think the southern league brought in a rule you had to be financial to play finals otherwise you lose your spotWho are the clubs? Is one of them still alive in the finals?
Heard a rumour, but will not name names, as I don't wish to cast aspersions on any club unless I know it to be fact.Who are the clubs? Is one of them still alive in the finals?
Hopefully this isn't the case, would be a poor look on any administration (club or league level) if we are still having this occur.Heard a rumour, but will not name names, as I don't wish to cast aspersions on any club unless I know it to be fact.
I thought 16 games was great for division 3. The best teams were sorted by then and it’s just much easier for clubs.Panton Hill will be hoping they win the flag this week to allow their stars to stay and be within the cap. With a potential 18 round season next year and a cap reduction to $80k don’t see how their list will stay under $4500 a game
When it was DVFL same ruleI think the southern league brought in a rule you had to be financial to play finals otherwise you lose your spot
Depends... if he trains regularly and this is a once off then I’d believe him.Just putting it out there what's everyone's thoughts on training and work life with young kids coming into senior footy. If a young bloke is having to work and has to miss training would you drop him or give the the benefit of the doubt if they have contacted the coach with a valid reason? It's been a discussion point around a few clubs and I have my opinion just want to hear what this forum has to offer.
Good luck to Morang and Hilliers this weekend.
Interesting discussion from January 31...That’s a stick, not a solution.
Regardless if you owe one dollar or ten thousand / you meet the obligations.
If clubs that do are at a disadvantage of those that don’t then the league is supporting bad behaviour and helping them fudge the salary cap.

Running a footy club is like running a small business, 400K turnover, employees etc. There can be a range of reasons why you can't service any of your suppliers trading terms, not just NFNL. Delays in sponsor monies coming through, poor results means less supporters turning up & bar/canteen sales down Vs forecast turnover. For the league to threaten pay by set time or we will drop your salary cap even further for following season means you put your other creditors under pressure - players, coaches, club staff, bar/canteen suppliers etc. This just shows you how far removed from club land that nfnl management are. Maybe the league could reduce some of their profit margins i.e: 25% mark up on jumpers for starters & you're forced to buy from their approved suppliers. Or maybe work with clubs (not just Div 1), instead of the salary cap reduction & further threat of sanctions for 2020 laid on clubs on 29/08, that conversation could of been April or May. Yes clubs should work within their financial restraints & service all their suppliers trading terms, but don't move the goal posts mid stream. Everyone working in club land want their club successful both on & off field & work towards that every day.Interesting discussion from January 31...

Who said anything about the league absorbing a club's debt?I agree with Ben here.
I personally think all league debts should be paid for prior to finals unless otherwise agreed upon.
Clubs need to operate within their means. Imagine if a club just didn't pay their fee's and instead recruit a couple of $500 a week guns. More or less using the leagues money to pay for a finals victory.
Yes correct your creditors should be under pressure and should take cuts because you are operating unrealistically. If you get to halfway and realize you can't pay your debts do what many clubs have done before and tell the players you'll cut their pay or they can walk before clearances.
Why should the league absorb a clubs debt why they continue operating unrealistically
Spot on here, salary cap deductions should be given to clubs a year earlier for planning.Who said anything about the league absorbing a club's debt?
If you run a small business you manage/communicate with all your suppliers when you may have some cash flow issues, even the ones that want to come & wield a big stick.
I agree with this statement of yrs "I personally think all league debts should be paid for prior to finals unless otherwise agreed upon" so salary cap was 90 K , agreed by all clubs in Div3, last Thurs the league reduced it to 80K with no consultation & to add icing, threatening to reduce clubs salary cap further if not completely financial before Oct 31.
If you're a Div 3 club & signed players before last week's notice from the league, you would of based your financial agreements on the known playing budget of 90K not the 80K, an 11% decrease. The league moved the goal posts mid stream.
Agreed. Hence if i said "unless agreed upon"Who said anything about the league absorbing a club's debt?

Agreed here. How many clubs have already signed their players with current figures in play.Spot on here, salary cap deductions should be given to clubs a year earlier for planning.
